20 debarred for forging certificates in MBBS, BDS applications
The committee will also initiate legal action against the candidates, it said. The selection committee scrutinised more than 70,000 applications it received for undergraduate medical and dental courses over the last two weeks. "We found some candidates submitted fake/forged/false documents. Their candidature is cancelled. If any more candidates are found to have submitted such documents at any stage of the counselling or admission process, the same measures will be carried out," said a senior official.
At least four candidates forged certificates from embassies such as Abu Dhabi, Malaysia, and Saudi Arabia. While seven applicants submitted fake nativity certificates from the tahsildars, nine others forged both community and nativity certificates, the announcement said. "Last year, we found fake embassy certificates in UG and PG applications. In some cases, students even managed to take the seat. We cancelled their admission, but we are still fighting court battles," a senior official said.
To intensify screening, the selection committee has a four-tier system to verify documents. While the first tier of staff, mostly outsourced, verifies if candidates completed the documents, staff in the second tier red-flag suspicious documents, and officials in the third and final tier decide on action to be taken. Officials are now verifying other documents, including NEET admit cards, relationship certificates, and minority certificates, besides community, nativity, and NRI certificates.

"When candidates make a small mistake by mentioning the wrong sex or if they fail to submit some document, we give candidates time for correction. But if the mistake is with mala fide intentions, we cancel candidature," the official added.

Free CET, NEET, JEE online coaching to be extended to all government, aided PU colleges in Karnataka : Madhu Bangarappa
Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa said the free online coaching for CET, NEET, and JEE for admission to engineering, medical, and other professional courses will be extended to all government and aided Pre-University Colleges (PU) in the State for the current academic year. During an interactive session at The Hindu office on Thursday, the Minister said, 'Last year, online coaching for the entrance examinations was provided to only 25,000 selected students in government and aided PU colleges. Since there is a huge demand for online coaching among students, it will be extended to all government and aided students in the State this year.' 'Most of the students studying in government and aided PU colleges belong to economically and socially backward families. Due to financial constraints, they cannot join private coaching centres. From 2024-25, the State government has implemented a free online coaching scheme for them. Last year, a student of a government PU college who received free online coaching joined IIT this year,' Mr. Madhu Bangarappa said. 'All students who enroll for online training will be given separate login IDs to participate in the classes. In addition, free videos related to the course will be provided. Students from private colleges will also be able to receive this training externally. They will be given the opportunity to ask questions online and get answers,' he said. Annual Exam 2 and 3 may be withdrawn Minister for School Education Madhu Bangarappa said that after recording 75% results in SSLC and II PU, annual exam 1, 2, and 3 may be withdrawn in a phased manner. 'To prevent malpractices in the exams and provide quality results, SSLC and PU examinations have been conducted strictly through webcasting since last year. Due to this, malpractices have come down. However, this has affected the results and last year, the SSLC examination results saw a huge decline. The pass marks were reduced, and the results were announced by providing 20 grace marks. Chief Minister Siddaramaiah had expressed displeasure over the grace marks being given and had given a target of 75% results without any grace marks in the coming years,' he said. 'Every year, about 2.76 lakh students fail in SSLC and II PU annual exam 1. If they are given another chance, they too pass in just one month. Hence, annual exam 1 and 2 have been implemented. We have already recorded 73% results from exam 1 and 2 of SSLC and II PU this year. If 75% results are recorded in annual exam 1 in the coming years, we will decide on withdrawing annual exam 2 and 3 after discussions,' he added. Pass marks to be brought down to 33 Madhu Bangarappa said that it has already been decided to reduce the pass marks of SSLC examination from 35 to 33 on the model of CBSE schools, and it will be implemented from the current academic year itself. 'Pass marks of 33 have been fixed for all central curriculum schools across the country, including CBSE. This is a student-friendly measure and will reduce the burden on children. It has been decided to reduce the pass marks of SSLC students to 33, and a final order will be issued soon,' he said. 'At the same time, there have also been demands to reduce the first language marks for SSLC students from 125 to 100. However, this is a very sensitive issue, I have to take care of my mother tongue. There is a big history behind setting 125 marks for the first language. So, an appropriate decision will be taken after discussing this with experts and the government,' he added.

NRI Woman In Germany Compares Life In India With Europe, Video Triggers Discussion
A video of a woman comparing life in India to that in European countries has sparked a discussion online. In the clip shared on Instagram, the Indian woman living in Germany listed several things that she believes are better in India than in European countries. The "perks" included doorstep grocery deliveries, seamless digital payments via UPI, and accessible healthcare services. She also claimed that India is safer when compared to other nations, citing an incident where her purse was stolen in broad daylight while she was aboard. "Before you come for me in the comments, hear me out! This video is just a response to all the negative stuff I keep seeing online about India. Yes, there are issues, but let's not ignore the good. And no, I'm not moving back just yet... but one day? For sure!" Vaishali Dutt, an NRI, wrote while sharing the video. Take a look below: View this post on Instagram A post shared by Vaishali Dutt • Travel 🌎 | Lifestyle 👧 (@beingindianingermany) The video was intended as a counterpoint to what she called "negative comments" about India. However, social media users criticised her, saying that she is painting a romanticised view of India while ignoring reality. Reacting to the video, one user wrote, "Groceried delivered in 10 minutes is not a flex , it is availability of cheap labour for exploitation :) you need to earn alot more in india to deserve the healthcare you spoke about Even though it's fast :) but yes let's stay in our bubble because who needs reality checks." "Why are NRI's SOOOOO eager at glorifying India? If you love INDIA soooo much, why you not here? Eh? Come back no.. work here no.. enjoy the LOWER SALARIES.. because UPIIIIIII and ZEPTOOOO. But no, you'll move out of India and THEN glorify the exploitation of the lower class by India, in the name of QUICK DELIVERIES. There's something called DIGNITY OF LABOUR... go ask your delivery people in Germany, and then let's talk about the same state of that labour, in INDIA. Nationalism while being outside, so convenient," commented another. "India is behind in infrastructure, cleanliness and public manners. Address this and we are first world," wrote a third user. "Please also add that European Jobs are usually 5 days a week and 35-40 hour working week for a good work/life balance. In India you are expected to answer calls and emails after you have finished your shifts," one user commented. "Go and live in an Indian village and try getting any delivery within 10 days, never mind 10 minutes," said another.
