Designer jeweller to Australia's A-List stars is accused of cheating its clients out of THOUSANDS - after consumer bosses warned shoppers: 'Watch out'
Shannakian Fine Jewellery is accused of accepting more than $40,000 for high-priced jewellery which never made it into the hands of customers.
Consumer Affairs Victoria has accused company officer Arpee Shannakian, 41, of being behind the alleged scam which left customers without their jewellery.
Ms Shannakian and the company now face eight charges of accepting payment for goods but failing to deliver in time.
Among the key transactions probed by authorities is a ring with a pink sapphire stone sold for $2200 in July 2023.
Other deals allegedly include a $6600 18-carat white gold tennis necklace in August 2023, a $13,500 18-carat diamond tennis necklace in December 2024 and $8000 for two rings in January this year.
The transactions under investigation allegedly totalled $44,643 and occurred between July 2022 and January 2025.
Ms Shannakian aka Arpee Mardiran, who lives in Rowville in Melbourne's south-east, was charged on July 4.
Her husband and Shannakian Fine Jewellery owner Hovig Shannakian is not facing any criminal charges.
Ms Shannakian failed to appear at today's Melbourne Magistrates' Court file hearing and the company will return to court in November.
According to Consumer Affairs, it received more than 70 complaints about the jeweller from customers across Australia and overseas dating back to February 2021.
Customers alleged they paid the business for jewellery including bracelets, necklaces and rings but 'failed to receive their purchases or refunds within a reasonable time or at all'.
The watchdog also alleged some payments for jewellery were deposited into a bank account in Ms Shannakian's name.
In May, Consumer Affairs warned 'anyone wanting to buy jewellery from Shannakian Jewellery to be careful'.
The firm sells custom-made and other jewellery on its website and also to its A-list clientele via appointment at its Collins Street showroom.
The boutique jeweller also sold through its Instagram account - which has more than 25,000 followers - where a parade of celebrities, influencers and AFL WAGs spruiked their designer glamour.
However, activity on the account stopped after Consumer Affairs first issued a public warning on May 22.
Among the celebrities who feature on the jeweller's Instagram page are Dancing with the Stars host Sonia Kruger, former top WAGs Bec Judd and Britt Selwood and My Kitchen Rules glamour Zana Pali.
Gold Logie winner Sonia Kruger appears in several posts of her wearing Shannakian jewellery at the Logies.
One Shannakian Fine Jewellery post congratulated Ms Kruger for her 2023 Gold Logie win
'Our girl wins the 2023 GOLD LOGIE... Congratulations to the most deserving, hard working, talented woman in the industry,' it read.
'We are so happy for you Sonia, and the entire team are honoured to have been on your journey! WOWSERS, now we celebrate.'
Shane Warne's daughter Brooke also appeared on Instagram wearing what the jeweller said was a custom-made 'Lucky Number 23' chain to honour her late dad.
Essendon captain Zach Merrett's wife Alexandra Merrett also appeared, as did GWS Giants' star Toby Greene's fiancée Georgia Stirton.
Ms Stirton was photographed wearing Shannakian jewellery at the 2024 Brownlow Medal ceremony.
Kahlia Howe, wife of Collingwood defender Jeremy Howe, also wore the shop's bling to the 2024 Brownlow.
And struggling West Coast midfielder Tim Kelly's wife Caitlin Miller was another WAG who wore the jewellery to the Brownlow.
Olivia May, wife of Port Adelaide Power Brownlow Medallist Ollie Wines, Talia Zorko, wife of Lions' defender Dayne Zorko and West Coast forward Jamie Cripps' cancer survivor partner Liv Cripps all featured on the jeweller's Instagram page.
Other celebs who wore Shannakian jewellery include Married at First Sight star Selin Mengu, TV presenter Khanh Ong, socialite Elle Baillieu, singer Samantha Jade, The Bachelor star Snezana Wood, model Simone Holtznagel and influencer Amy Pejkovic.
Byron Bay-based influencer Ruby Tuesday Matthews regularly featured adorned with Shannakian jewellery.
Pop megastar Delta Goodrem appeared on the Today Show wearing Shannakian jewellery, which the jeweller also shared on Instagram.
TV presenter and journalist Abbey Gelmi was also a regular feature on the Shannakian Instagram page along with cricket mega-WAG, Candace Warner.
Greta Bradman, granddaughter of Australian sporting legend Don Bradman, is featured in a post where Shannakian Fine Jewellery claims she is wearing their jewellery while singing the national anthem at the 2024 Melbourne Cup.
Consumer Affairs Victoria Acting Director David Joyner urged consumers to be wary before purchasing Shannakian Fine Jewellery products.
'If you have had a bad experience with Shannakian Fine Jewellery, contact us through our complaint form, email or by calling 1300 55 81 81,' he said.
'In September 2024, after receiving a spike in consumer complaints, Consumer Affairs Victoria issued Shannakian Fine Jewellery an Official Warning, strongly encouraging the business to refund affected consumers and address ongoing consumer complaints.'
Mr Joyner said Consumer Affairs received a further 14 complaints since January, ultimately leading to criminal proceedings.
'The conduct of Shannakian Fine Jewellery has adversely affected the interests of its customers,' he said.
'I urge consumers to be cautious about purchasing goods from Shannakian Fine Jewellery. I also urge any current customers of Shannakian Fine Jewellery to be wary of making further purchases.'

PSG star Achraf Hakimi facing rape charge after ‘inviting woman he met on Instagram back to family home'
The Moroccan ace could face up to 15 years in prison if convicted 'RAPE' PROBE PSG star Achraf Hakimi facing rape charge after 'inviting woman he met on Instagram back to family home' Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) PSG star Achraf Hakimi is reportedly facing trial for rape after allegedly inviting a woman over to his home near Paris. Prosecutors have signed a final indictment requesting the 26-year-old to be charged in criminal court. The case stems from an alleged incident on February 25, 2023. According to Le Parisien, a 24-year-old woman told police she met Hakimi on Instagram in January of that year. After a month of exchanges, he reportedly ordered her an Uber to his home in Boulogne-Billancourt while his wife and children were away on holiday. Once inside, the woman claims Hakimi kissed her mouth and breasts through her clothes, despite her protests. She alleged he then assaulted her without consent. According to her account, she managed to push him away with her foot before fleeing and texting a friend to pick her up. She went to a police station the same day to 'make a statement of rape,' though she initially declined to file a formal complaint. Messages she later provided to investigators reportedly showed her distress following the encounter. Achraf Hakimi shows what he is made of at PSG training On March 3, 2023, Hakimi was charged with rape by an investigating judge and placed under judicial supervision after being held in custody. He has consistently denied the allegations. The footballer, currently holidaying in Puerto Rico with former teammate Kylian Mbappé, previously claimed the case was a plot against him. 'The truth is that when you are successful and things are going well, you become an easy target for certain people and that taught me that you can't trust many people around you,' Hakimi said this January in a interview. 'They wanted to blackmail me and that's why we filed a complaint and it's going well. The justice system handled things rather well.' His lawyer, Fanny Colin, slammed the prosecution's latest move. 'These requisitions are incomprehensible and senseless in light of the evidence in the case,' she told Le Parisien. 'It establishes the plaintiff's lies, particularly through the psychological assessments conducted on her. 'Achraf Hakimi and I remain as calm as when the proceedings began. 'If these requests were to be followed, we would obviously pursue all avenues of appeal.'

I earn £10k a month doing a job no one wants – I only have to work half the year & get to travel the world
Click to share on X/Twitter (Opens in new window) Click to share on Facebook (Opens in new window) A WOMAN has revealed how she rakes in £10,000 a month - despite only working six months of the year. TikTok creator Ashlea shares every step of her glamorous lifestyle online - including her day job as a dump truck driver. 3 Ashlea from Perth says she makes £10k a month as a dump truck driver Credit: Instagram 3 She works FIFO (fly-in fly-out) roles, which allow her to work flexible shifts and enjoy extended time off Credit: Tiktok 3 Ashlea boasts over 81,000 followers on TikTok Credit: Tiktok The 26-year-old truck driver from Perth, Western Australia, has recently shared snaps from trips to Bali, Finland, Saudi Arabia and Colombia. She also shared a video revealing that after six years of hard work - and driving a car she didn't like - she's finally bought her dream car. In 2023, she detailed her income in a TikTok video and has since become a vocal advocate for women in mining and FIFO (fly-in fly-out) roles. Ashlea said: "When I first started as a greenie [new truck driver], for my first three months I was paid $36.50 (£19.40) an hour. "And we do 12-hour days and I work on a two and two roster, so that's 14 days on and then I get 14 days off, so I pretty much work six months of the year." Just three months into her new job, she said her hourly pay jumped up to $43.50 (£23.10) an hour. She added: "So quite a nice jump. And for my first year as a greenie, that would have taken me to approximately $94-$95,000 (£49-£50,000) annually for the six months. "So, pretty cool for a new truckie." Her latest rate is about $51.50 (£27.30) an hour - and she gets a $2,000 (£1,060) bonus each month she stays with her contracting company. Ashlea said: "So that could be anywhere between $6,000 (£3,180) and $10,000 (£5,300). I quit my £43K job in the UK to be a grape-picker in Italy and have ZERO regrets - I don't get paid but I'm so happy "Annually, my $51.50 would be approximately $112,000 (£59,420). With my bonuses, that could be another $10,000, so $122,000 (£64,730) for my first year. "And then when I'm employed directly with the company itself, every full year you're employed through the mine site direct, they pay you a bonus also which I think is approximately $3,000 (£1,590) each year. "And then if the company itself does well I think they actually pay you a bit of a profit share just as a thanks, which I love." The TikToker explained in the comments section of her video that her employer covers the cost of everything - including accommodation, food and flights. She added that she only works 22 weeks a year, which is less than half the year once her four weeks of annual leave are factored in. Ashlea isn't the only woman who's turned her life around. In June 2021, Kelly Moore, a 44-year-old mum from Maidstone, walked away from a career in care and took a leap into something completely new. Once stuck in her overdraft and counting every penny, the mum-of-one has since left the nine-to-five grind behind - and now runs one of Maidstone's fastest-growing eco-cleaning businesses. Her company, Cleaning With Meaning, which uses handmade, refillable and environmentally friendly products, brings in £15,000 a month.

Influencer found with her ‘throat slit by boyfriend' after attack outside cinema
An influencer was found with her throat slit outside of a cinema with a warning posted to her fans. Irene Gu was leaving a car park when her vehicle was suddenly blocked by her boyfriend in Taipei, Taiwan. The pair argued and her boyfriend, surnamed Liu, dragged the 23-year-old into a stairwell and slit her throat. The suspect then reportedly fled to his granddad's house before being arrested by police yesterday morning. He confessed to killing Irene, but claimed he wanted to get back £10,000 he supposedly leant her during their relationship. The pair worked together at a nightclub with Irene working as a public relations officer and he working as a security guard. Irene also had 30,000 followers on Instagram, and left her banking job to work in PR so she could have the same schedule as him. She only met him after her mum persuaded her to go clubbing one night to see more of the world. In May, Irene filed a complaint for assault against Liu as well as applying for a protective order. But he failed to appear in court, and in the days leading up to her death, Irene posted: 'If you hit me, I'll go to the police, right?' In another post, she wrote: 'Someone asked me why don't I just block him? More Trending 'Because he'll find me, he even asked my colleagues if I was at work, disturbing my co-workers. 'Most importantly, I don't owe him money!' The investigation into her murder continues. Get in touch with our news team by emailing us at webnews@ For more stories like this, check our news page.
