Agri dept, min & actor come forward to help Latur farmer
Ambadas Pawar
, the 65-year-old farmer from Latur whose act of pulling a plough went viral, has started to receive significant assistance.
Following the widespread attention, the agriculture department and local NCP MLA and cooperation minister Babasaheb Patil have stepped in to help.
Despite his long career in farming, Pawar notably lacked a Kisan credit card.
However, agricultural authorities have now fast-tracked his enrollment for one. "Pawar is likely to get the Kisan credit card in a day or two and could avail affordable credit from the government among other benefits. We also offered him fertilisers and humic acid for the Kharif season," Shivsamb Lakde, Latur district superintendent of agriculture, told TOI on Thursday.
Patil has pledged to clear Pawar's outstanding loan of Rs40,000 and provide additional assistance. "I contacted the family and have assured them of all possible help in my capacity and through the govt," Pawar said.
Actor Sonu Sood, in a post on X, said he is ready to provide oxen to Pawar. The actor, who runs the Sood Charity Foundation, said Pawar would be unable to drive a tractor and therefore providing oxen is a better proposition. Speaking with the reporters, Pawar said nobody approached him for actual help except the agriculture department. "I haven't received any money to clear my debt. I got a call from Sood and he promised to come to my village by Saturday," he said.
Pawar expressed concern about the upbringing of his two grandchildren and mentioned that he needs help with their education as well.

The play, which focuses on Prof Kalburgi's life, especially the assassination part, is conceptualised by Dr Vikram Visaji. "In the play, we have not used Prof Kalburgi's name for the character, though it is based on his life story. The characters in the play are not given any names but are known by the roles they play in the drama. For example, the person playing the advocate is referred to as the advocate in the play rather than using any names," Praveen said. As the play revolves around Prof Kalburgi's assassination, a person identified as Yuvak approaches the scholar character at his residence and gets into discussions and arguments with him over some ideological issues. Finally, the person (Yuvak) kills the scholar, he said. Praveen, who also essayed the role of the scholar representing Prof Kalburgi in the drama, said this play will throw light on how scholars face threats and lose their lives for speaking the truth. "It also aims to send a message that killing is not a solution. If there is any confusion or misunderstanding, it needs to be solved through dialogue rather than taking lives, he said. We are planning to enact this play in all universities to motivate students to take a good path rather than choosing the wrong path under the influence of fundamentalists," he said. "Prof Kalburgi's family members also watched the play and and lauded our efforts when it was enacted in Dharwad and Vijayapura," said Praveen.
