DNA tests on child beggars: Punjab's new directive to verify biological relation, curb child exploitation
Punjab government has directed all deputy commissioners (DCs) to conduct DNA tests on children found begging with adults on the streets, officials said on Thursday.
The directive is aimed at protecting children from cases of extortion and forced begging by verifying family ties between adults who are accompanying the child.
According to the order, if a child is found begging alongside an adult, a DNA test will be conducted to determine their relationship. If the DNA test reveals no biological relation between the child and the accompanying adult, strict action will be taken against the adult involved.
The directive was issued by Social Security, Women and Child Development Minister Baljit Kaur under the state's ongoing project Mission Jeevanjot to prevent children from engaging into begging.The officials aim to identify and rescue children being forced into begging and to take legal action against those exploiting them.
Until the test results are available, the child will be placed in a child care institution and kept under the supervision of the district child welfare committee.
Officials confirmed that the Directorate of Social Security (Women and Child Development) issued the instructions to all DCs, directing child welfare committees to identify such suspicious cases and forward them for DNA verification. These cases will then be referred to the respective DCs, who will initiate the required procedures, PTI reported.

Last year, we ran focused drives. This year, our attention shifted to other offences like overcharging by autos and cab drivers post the bike taxi ban and riding without helmets." The officer added: "Moreover, the focus was on contactless enforcement last year and this only emboldened violators as cameras failed to net them." Fellow motorists and daily commuters said bikes without plates has become common. Rahul Goyal, a businessman at SP Road near KR Market, said he spots 5 to 10 such vehicles daily on his 4-km commute. "This is being done to bypass the AI camera network. Many bikes don't have number plates at all. And when they break traffic rules or are involved in road rage. How will the police trace them if there's no number? These guys are the most notorious drivers on the road and are least bothered about their own safety and that of others." Legal Loopholes Limit Police Action Senior police officers said the Bengaluru traffic police earlier started booking cheating cases against such violators, treating the act as intentional avoidance of legal penalties. However, this approach hit a legal roadblock when the Karnataka high court ruled that driving without a number plate does not amount to cheating, limiting the scope for stricter action. "This number, which is obtained by paying a premium price, is written in a stylised manner in such a way that it reads like BOSS," a senior officer said. Recently, Rajajinagar police cracked down on a SUV using a tampered plate reading "MR BOSS". The swift enforcement by the police drew praise on social media.

A video he posted on on Truth Social shows the former President and Democratic Party leader being arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) in the Oval Office. In the one-minute AI-generated video posted by President Trump — the clip starts with Obama saying, 'No one especially the President, is above the law', followed by other Democrats, including Joe Biden, stating, 'No one is above the law.' This comes after US Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard publicly accused Obama and several of his top administration officials of orchestrating what she described as a 'treasonous conspiracy' to undermine Trump's victory in the 2016 presidential election. The clip, without any disclaimer, shows Obama being handcuffed by two FBI agents, while Trump sits nearby, smiling throughout the arrest.
