Conecta Fiction & Entertainment Hands Out $115,000 Prizes As Spanish Confab Kicks Off
A duo of scripted projects has landed €100,000 ($115,000) each at Conecta Fiction & Entertainment.
The international content event began last night in the against the dramatic surroundings of the mountainous Spanish city Cuenca, with Patricia Franco, Regional Minister of Economy, Business and Employment of Castilla-La Mancha, using a speech to announce the winning projects of the third Castilla-La Mancha Feature Films and Series Competition.

In the regional category, Piedra, Papel o Tijera (Rock, Paper, Scissors), which comes from Toledan production company Altamira Entertainment, won out. The series stars the likes of Aitana Sánchez-Gijón, José Coronado, Irene Escolar and Chino Darín.
In the national category award went to La Celestina, a modern take on the 1499 book by Fernando de Rojas. Directed by Tina Olivares, it stars the likes of Esmeralda Pimentel and Juana Acosta.
A total of 19 projects were submitted for the awards.
The awards were the first news out of the ninth edition of Conecta, which began as a scripted-only event but has in recent years expanded to incorporate entertainment. This is the first year it's being held in Cuenca, UNESCO World Heritage Site that is around 170km south-east of Madrid.
The opening ceremony was held at the Church of San Miguel last night, with representatives from Conecta, Government of Castilla-La Mancha, Unifrance, the Institut Français of Spain and the Canadian Embassy in attendance alongside execs, talent and creatives. France and Canada are the countries of focus.
Géraldine Gonard, Director of Conecta, used her welcome speech to pay tribute to the countries, saying they were 'two powerful markets with a highly competitive content industry on the international scene, which will find in Cuenca and Castilla-La Mancha the ideal setting for developing future co-productions and joint projects.'

Dick Van Dyke pulls out of comedy gig due to illness
Dick Van Dyke was forced to pull out of a comedy event at the last minute due to illness. The 99-year-old actor was due to host Vandy Camp with his wife Arlene Silver, 53, at the Arlene Dick Van Dyke Theatre at Malibu High School on Saturday (28.06.25) but he had to cancel after taking ill. According to PEOPLE, Arlene made a speech where she introduced herself as 'not the Van Dyke you're expecting'. She went on: "I have to inform you that Dick is not up to coming to celebrate with us today. I'm sorry. "When you're 99 and a half years old, you have good days and bad days ... and unfortunately, today is not a good day for him, and he's sick that he can't be here.' The actor appeared on a livestream but Arlene added she was 'pretty confident' her husband would make the next event 'in person'. Speaking about how much Vandy Camp means to her husband, Arlene said: 'It is a celebration of your childhood, all of our childhoods, the music that's in the fabric of all of us, [and] Dick Van Dyke is a big part of that.' Calling her husband's fans 'the greatest human beings I've ever known," she added, "These Vandy Camp [events] are a wonderful opportunity to have you all in the same room and meet each other." And, Arlene – who married Dick in 2012 – praised her husband saying that "being around him just as a human being has made me a better person'. She added that he had given her "so much confidence to be able to stand up here right now," further explaining, "I would never be able to do this maybe, like, a year ago, but I've had so many experiences pushing myself out of my comfort zone, and right now I'm out of my comfort zone. "But I have to wear my big girl pants and hold the reins without Dick here as the safety net that he's always here with me.'

Threads Expands Spoiler Tags to Image and Video Content

Threads has added another element to its new spoiler tags in posts, with users now able to hide both text and media content behind a virtual screen to protect users from potentially sensitive info. As you can see in this example, now, in addition to selecting 'Mark spoiler' on highlighted text, which puts a tappable shield up over that selection, you can also choose the same on images and video in posts. As explained by Threads: 'In the composer, select the text you want to hide and tap 'Mark spoiler.' To hide multimedia, tap the three-dot menu on a photo, video or GIF, then - you guessed it - 'Mark spoiler.'' Threads says that posts can have more than one spoiler, though any content that you hide still needs to abide by the platform's rules and guidelines. So you can't use this to post offensive content, and simply hide it from view (like X's 'Sensitive content' tags, which many people also use as spoiler tags). And again, to reveal a spoiler that you see in someone else's post, you can tap on the hidden text or media to show it in full. The added multimedia element will provide more capacity to share content in the app, without upsetting other users who may not want to see the results of a TV show, sporting event, etc. Indeed, with Threads taking aim at X's key audience, it really wants to win over entertainment and sports communities who engage in real-time around major events. X still holds the lead in this respect, but with 350 million users and counting, Threads is catching up, and as such, providing more ways for users to interact around these elements could be a key way to win more of the discussion. It's a good addition, which provides more engagement capacity, and will help Threads users share more content on more topics in-stream. Threads says that the new multimedia spoiler tags are being rolled out to all users, but may not be available to everyone just yet.
