Two Eagles land on an NFL Under-25 Team, along with three stars from rival franchises
As training camp gets underway, we've seen more rankings and all-star teams than we know what to do with. When you think you've seen it all, someone comes up with something else.
This time around, Around The NFL writer Nick Shook introduces his All-Under-25 Team. Five members of the NFC East make the cut. That includes two Philadelphia Eagles, Nakobe Dean and Jalen Carter.
"When you turn on Carter's tape, it's impossible to not notice his blend of power, speed and pure force, especially when he's rushing the passer. Carter is incredibly gifted in this department and served as a key part of an Eagles defense that overwhelmed opponents en route to a Super Bowl LIX triumph. There is room for him to improve against the run, but he has the tools. With a Pro Bowl to his name and a small portion of Defensive Player of the Year votes in 2024, Carter has already landed on the national radar. Expect him to stay there."
There isn't a Birds fan who will find fault with Shook's take. Dean has battled injuries, so it's nice to see him on the list as one of the linebackers. Here's the reasoning behind his addition.
"After serving as a rotational player for two seasons, Dean stepped into a full-time role in 2024 and flourished, racking up 128 tackles, three sacks, four passes defensed and one interception. His jump in production was remarkable enough to earn him a few Comeback Player of the Year votes, and while he could still improve in coverage, Dean proved the ball-chasing instincts that he displayed at Georgia were still in him last season. As a defender with three pro campaigns under his belt before his 25th birthday, Dean might be seen as a bit of a late bloomer, but better late than never."
Joining Carter and Dean on this roster are three rivals: guard Tyler Smith (Dallas), wide receiver Malik Nabers (New York), and the quarterback of this squad, Jayden Daniels (Washington). It's a unique blend of talent. One thing is sure. If this were a real squad, opposing coaches wouldn't enjoy any rest before playing them.

Jacksonville's Brian Thomas Jr. had the rookie season that people wanted Marvin Harrison Jr. to have. This week, the NFL had its fourth week of revealing players in the "NFL Top 100." This week was about revealed Nos. 61-70. Arizona Cardinals tight end Trey McBride came in at No. 65. On Friday, two Cardinals opponents for 2025 rounded out the week. Coming at No. 61 was Jacksonville Jaguars receiver Brian Thomas, who was a rookie last season. In his rookie campaign, he had the season Cardinals fans hoped that Marvin Harrison Jr. would have had. He had 87 catches for 1,282 yards and 10 touchdowns. He made the Pro Bowl and was fourth in Offensive Rookie of the Year voting. He was the fourth rookie since the NFL-AFL merger to have at least 1,200 yards and 10 touchdowns. Fellow 2024 rookie receiver Malik Nabers of the New York Giants, Thomas' college teammate at LSU, called him "a freak of nature." Teammate Travon Walker, a defensive end, said Thomas is "a good route runner" with "exceptional speed." The Cardinals will have to find a way to slow Thomas in 2025. Vikings' Kevin O'Connell opens up about the Vikings process around J.J. McCarthy
Some fans and media members questioned the Minnesota Vikings' willingness to move on to J.J. McCarthy, who missed his entire rookie season due to a meniscus tear. Sam Darnold had led the team to a 14-3 record in 2024, throwing for 4,319 yards and 35 touchdowns en route to his first Pro Bowl appearance. However, the Vikings' goal with McCarthy isn't exactly replicating Darnold's success in 2024, his first year as a starter. Instead, they want to ensure they build McCarthy into a quarterback who can succeed not only in 2025 but in the years that follow. Part of that requires building a contending roster around McCarthy, something that was possible this offseason with his rookie-scale contract allowing the Vikings to spend more money. Kevin O'Connell broke it all down while speaking with KFAN on Thursday. I am wildly in favor of the quarterback development process involving more than just the quarterback. Too much has probably been made of my opinions on these matters, but I will say that I believe you're supposed to put a really good football team around any quarterback that plays. When you have a younger player in this financial current NFL that we play in nowadays, you can do it a little bit more around that player with the young guy under contract for a certain amount of time before you inevitably have to start planning for what that will look like when he transitions to one of the more highly paid players on the team. If McCarthy proves he can be the franchise quarterback for the next decade, and the Vikings surround him with the requisite roster to contend, Minnesota could finally compete for the Super Bowl championship that has eluded them for 65 years.

Reports: WR DJ Chark to sign with Falcons
Free agent wide receiver DJ Chark will reportedly sign with Atlanta after visiting the Falcons on Friday, according to multiple reports. The move comes a week after Chark visited with the Chicago Bears. Chark spent the past three seasons with three different teams after playing his first four campaigns in Jacksonville. He was a second-round pick by the Jaguars in 2018 and made the Pro Bowl with a 1,008-yard season in 2019. Chark caught just four passes for 31 yards and one touchdown in seven games with the Los Angeles Chargers in 2024. As NFL teams reported for training camp last week, Chark said he was still weighing his options. "It depends," he said, per NFL Network. "It will have to be something that makes sense, from a family perspective and also from an X's and O's perspective. Getting up and going to any team just for the excitement -- I'll always love the game, but at this point, putting myself and my family in a great position is what's ideal for me." Chark has 216 catches for 3,100 yards and 24 TDs in 76 games (51 starts) for the Jaguars (2018-21), Detroit Lions (2022), Carolina Panthers (2023) and Chargers. --Field Level Media Field Level Media 2025 - All Rights Reserved
