Man accused of murdering Scottish gangsters in Spain appears in court
The man accused of murdering Eddie Lyons and Ross Monaghan in Spain appeared in court on Friday.
Michael Terrence Riley from the Merseyside area, was arrested by local officers last week in connection with the deaths of Eddie Lyons and Ross Monaghan after an international arrest warrant was issued by Spanish cops, the Daily Record.
He is charged with two counts of murder and one of possession of a firearm over the incident which saw Monaghan, 43, and Lyons, 46, killed at Monaghan's bar in Fuengirola.
Riley first appeared at Westminster Magistrates' Court on Thursday, June 19, but the hearing was delayed due to technical issues.
During a brief hearing today, a court date for his next appearance was set.
Riley, who is represented in court by specialist extradition lawyer Renata Pinter, will appear again before the same court next month, on July 18. He was remanded in custody until then.
The full hearing, where Riley will challenge extradition, is scheduled for October 9 this year.
The Lyons crime clan has been locked in a deadly feud with the rival Daniel mob for a quarter of a century, following the theft of drugs from a Glasgow safe house in 2001.
A top Spanish cop told reporters the assassinations of Monaghan and Lyons are part of the feud, claiming that Riley is a member of the Daniel gang.
Speaking at a press conference in Spain, Pedro Agudo Novo said: "The double murder was carried out by a professional killer and member of one of the victims' rival gangs.
"In this case we are not talking about an independent hired killer but an internal member of the rival Daniels gang who ends up assassinating two members of an enemy gang."
Scottish police, who have been investigating the war between the rival crime syndicates for decades, seemed to suggest the killing had nothing to do with their rivalry - or the war on the Daniel mob being waged by Lyons associate Ross McGill.
Henchmen of the Dubai-based former Rangers ultra - who headed the Union Bears fan group and is nicknamed 'Miami' - have waged war on the Daniel mob and associates for the last few months.
The feud has seen a number of homes, people and businesses targeted in firebombings, knife attacks and shootings, in Glasgow, Edinburgh and surrounding areas, and is being investigated by Police Scotland as part of Operation Portaledge.

The alleged incident unfolded at the Regal Cinema in Lake City, Utah, on Saturday, where Merriex is said to have left her vulnerable tot in her 2002 Cadillac Escalade. The 18-year-old parent has been charged with felony child neglect, according to US police reports. As temperatures skyrocketed to 40C, concerned witnesses called 911 to report Merriex and police were forced to bust a window to rescue the "distressed" child. In the arrest report, an officer said: "I applied a window break to the driver side window after observing the child in the front passenger seat." The toddler was "visibly distressed" when she was found trapped inside the vehicle, Law & Crime reports. Police allege that the two-year-old had "a flushed red appearance, was sweating profusely and was crying in distress". It is believed that the little girl was stuck inside the sweltering hot car for at least 30 minutes. When her mum eventually came out of the cinema, she was "very nonchalant", the police report claimed. Merriex claimed she "accidentally" locked her tot inside and "acted as though the whole situation wasn't a big deal as she just stood next to her vehicle". The young mum said she initially brought her little girl out to the cinema lobby to keep her from "disrupting other movie viewers' experience," the report continued. After doing this "a few times", she allegedly ended up leaving her daughter alone in the car. She left the Smurfs film occasionally to go out and check on her daughter, police claim, and even allegedly tasked her siblings with taking it in turns to check on her. Merriex is reportedly being held at the Columbia County Jail on $50,000 (£36,9600) bond. Police Chief Gerald Butler said: "Our officers acted swiftly to ensure the safety of this young child. Leaving a child unattended in a vehicle under these conditions is unacceptable. We are thankful the child is safe and urge all parents to prioritize the well-being of their children at all times."

Police ‘harassed' pensioner over Gaza protest T-shirt
Officers have been accused of political policing, harassment and intimidation of a 78-year-old protester charged under terrorism legislation for allegedly wearing a T-shirt in support of the banned group Palestine Action. Mick Napier, co-founder of the Scottish Palestine Solidarity Campaign, was arrested at a protest in Edinburgh on July 19 and spent a night in the cells before being released on bail on standard conditions. He said that during President Trump's trip to Scotland last month, officers had visited his home seven times, claiming they were there to remind him of his bail conditions. Napier's lawyer, Mark Harrower, has lodged a complaint with Police Scotland, claiming the actions were 'nothing short of harassment'. In it, he wrote that his client was a 'peaceful protester against the killing and starvation of innocent civilians in Gaza' who had been released on bail on July 22. Speaking to the Sunday Mail, he said: 'Since then, he has received seven separate visits from police officers at his home address to check whether he is aware of his bail conditions.' • Record number of arrests at Palestine Action protests across UK Harrower said that after the fourth visit, he had contacted the force to say Napier wanted the visits to stop. Yet they continued. The lawyer wrote: 'The only possible explanation for these repeated visits is to intimidate my client and his wife. Harrower said that similar visits had been made to the homes of other protesters, raising concerns that police were becoming 'politically involved'. There was a sentiment United were under-prepared in navigating the complexities of Spanish football's transfer system at such a late juncture in the window.
