CCHF on the rise: Iraq confirms 109 infections ahead of Eid al-Adha
The ministry urged citizens to adhere to safety measures during Eid al-Adha, citing heightened risk from unregulated livestock slaughter and direct animal contact. 'Most cases are linked to unauthorized butchering and informal animal handling,' ministry spokesperson Saif al-Badr stated.
Deputy Health Minister Hani al-Okaili called on the public to avoid street-side butchering. 'We advise citizens to purchase meat from licensed slaughterhouses and use gloves and designated tools when handling raw meat,' he told Shafaq News.
Dhi Qar remains the hardest-hit province with 31 cases and one death, followed by eastern Baghdad (11 cases, five deaths), Wasit (12 cases, one death), Muthanna (eight cases, two deaths), and Maysan (eight cases, no deaths), with more cases in 13 other provinces.

Shafaq News – Gaza Israel's war on Gaza has left 88% of the territory destroyed and inflicted more than $62B in losses, according to a report released Friday by the Strip's Government Media Office. According to the report, the human cost is 'staggering,' with around 77,000 Palestinians either killed or missing since the war began—including 19,000 children. At least 60% of all casualties are women, children, or the elderly. Some 2,613 families have been completely erased from the civil registry, while more than 16,000 women have been widowed and 44,000 children orphaned. The report also documented damage to 38 hospitals, 96 healthcare centers, and the targeting of 144 ambulances. Housing infrastructure suffered massive losses, with 223,000 units destroyed entirely and another 134,000 rendered uninhabitable—leaving nearly 288,000 families without shelter. Additionally, at least 156 schools and universities were destroyed and 382 others damaged. The war has killed more than 13,000 students, 800 teachers, and 173 academics and researchers. Since Israel withdrew from ceasefire negotiations on March 18, the Gaza Ministry of Health says at least 7,500 people have been killed and 26,000 wounded.

According to the ministry, 7,750 people have been killed and 27,566 injured since March 18, when Israel withdrew from ceasefire negotiations. An additional 910 fatalities and more than 5,500 injuries have been recorded since May 27, when Israeli forces began targeting aid distribution points—areas that local authorities and rights groups now describe as 'kill zones.' The ministry reported that the overall toll since the beginning of the war has reached 58,573 dead and over 139,600 injured, with approximately 11,000 people still missing under the rubble. The figures come amid a sharp escalation in military operations across the enclave. The Euro-Med Human Rights Monitor reported that nearly 45% of Khan Younis is now under Israeli fire, with civilians increasingly treated as 'terrorist targets.' The group also warned that the ongoing isolation of eastern Khan Younis reflects what it described as a 'colonial tool' aimed at fragmenting Gaza both geographically and demographically.
