Wake Forest forces deciding Game 7 in Knoxville Regional against Tennessee baseball
No. 2 regional seed Wake Forest (39-21) defeated No. 14 national seed Tennessee (45-17), 7-6, in the Knoxville Regional of the 2025 NCAA Baseball Tournament on Sunday.
The Demon Deacons won the contest in the ninth inning after Jack Winnay walked with the bases loaded.
Sunday's game marks the first time the Vols last host at home in a regional game under head coach Tony Vitello. Tennessee's last regional home loss was to Wake Forest in 2001.
Andrew Fischer went 2-for-5 for Tennessee. He hit a two-run home run, recorded three RBIs and scored one run. Levi Clark also hit a two-run home run for the Vols. He recorded two RBIs and scored one run.
Gavin Kilen went 1-for-4. He hit one double, scored two runs and recorded one RBI, while Dean Curley went 1-for-2 and scored one run.
Nate Snead (4-2) received a loss for the Vols. He pitched 1.1 innings, allowing one run, four hits and two walks. Snead recorded three strikeouts, while totaling 41 pitches, including 25 strikes.
Dylan Loy started for the Vols. He pitched 1.1 innings and allowed one run, one hit and one walk. Loy recorded two strikeouts, while totaling 21 pitches, including 13 strikes..
Brandon Arvidson also appeared in relief for Tennessee. He pitched 5.1 innings and allowed five runs, five hits and and three walks. Arvidson recorded 12 strikeouts, while totaling 108 pitches, including 70 strikes.

Titans' veteran edge rusher surprisingly retires just 1 day before training camp
The Tennessee Titans announced that veteran edge rusher Lorenzo Carter informed the team he will retire on Tuesday, just one day before training camp began on Wednesday. Carter, 29, signed a one-year deal with the Titans during free agency ahead of the 2025 season. "He notified us yesterday that he will be retiring," Titans general manager Mile Borgonzi said in the announcement, "So we wish him well." Carter played in the NFL for seven seasons after the New York Giants selected him in the third-round of the 2018 NFL Draft out of Georgia. The edge rusher spent the first four seasons with the Giants before he joined his hometown Atlanta Falcons for the final three seasons of his career. Carter started 62 of his 96 career games in the NFL. He only started two of his 15 games in his rookie year, but after that he became a regular starter with the Giants. In four seasons with the Giants, Carter had 153 combined tackles, 14.5 sacks, one interception, 15 passes defended, five forced fumbles, and four fumble recoveries. Following his four-year stint with the Giants, Carter signed a one-year, $3.5 million contract with the Falcons. Carter started all 17 games that season and parlayed that into a two-year, $9 million contract the following season. Last season, Carter started 11 of the 13 games he played in and had 32 combined tackles and no sacks for the Falcons. Without Carter, the Titans have seven edge rushers on their roster: Arden Key, Dre'Mont Jones, Femi Oladejo, Jaylen Harrell, Ali Gaye, Titus Leo and Desmond Evans.

Memphis basketball 2025-26 schedule: Tigers' American Conference pairings announced
The conference portion of the Memphis basketball 2025-26 schedule became a little clearer on July 23. The rebranded American Conference announced its schedule pairings for the 13 teams in the league. Each team will play 18 conference games − six home-and-home, three home-only and three away-only. Dates and tip-off times for the Tigers' conference games will be announced later, although the Tigers' American opener is set for Dec. 30. Memphis' conference slate didn't do much to help its March Madness resumé last season. The Tigers ranked No. 5 in non-conference strength of schedule and 160th in conference strength of schedule in 2024-25. But the American will give its defending champion and the only team to make the NCAA tournament as many quality opportunities as it can in 2025-26. Five of the six American teams Penny Hardaway and his Tigers will play twice finished in the top 150 of the NCAA's NET rankings − North Texas (No. 65), UAB (No. 106), FAU (No. 111), Wichita State (No. 134) and Tulane (No. 145). Memphis will also face South Florida, which was No. 189 in the NET last season but CBS Sports' preseason pick to win the ACC tournament, at home and on the road. Charlotte, Temple and UTSA are the Tigers' three home-only opponents, while East Carolina, Rice and Tulsa are their three away-only matchups. Memphis' non-conference schedule has not yet been finalized, but most of it is already in place − and, like last season, it sets up to be among the strongest in the nation: Home games: San Francisco (Nov. 8), UNLV (Nov. 16), New Orleans (TBA), Baylor (Dec. 6) and Vanderbilt (Dec. 17). Away games: Ole Miss (TBA), Louisville (Dec. 13), Mississippi State (Dec. 20) and Utah State (Feb. 14, 2026). Memphis women's basketball American scheduling pairings The Memphis women's basketball program also announced its American scheduling pairings July 23. Alex Simmons' Tigers − who finished 10th in the league standings in 2024-25 − will meet each of these teams twice (at home and on the road): UAB, Charlotte, East Carolina, UTSA, Tulane and Wichita State. Tennessee Titans training camp: Sights and sounds from Day 1
The Tennessee Titans reported for training camp on Tuesday and officially took the field for the first time Wednesday morning. Before the team's first practice, head coach Brian Callahan met with reporters and addressed a wide range of topics, including Cam Ward's reps and the changes made to camp in year two, eventually highlighting the importance of the joint practice sessions with the Atlanta Falcons and Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
