Govt reiterates commitment to women's empowerment
The Minister made these remarks during the ceremonial launch of the 'SITHA' (She Is The Hero Always) app, developed by SheJobs, held here on Monday. He described the app's introduction as a celebration of a broader movement, one that aims to provide women across Telangana, irrespective of their background, with equal access to opportunities, economic independence, and leadership roles.
'True empowerment,' the Minister asserted, 'occurs when women are free to exercise their rights within the household and are actively involved in decision-making.' Quoting the latest 'Men and Women in India – 2024' report, released by the Central Statistical Office (CSO), he highlighted that 86% of rural women and 89% of urban women in Telangana are participating in household decisions. 'These are not just statistics,' he stated, 'but indicators of Telangana's silent revolution towards gender equity. They represent steps towards fulfilling the vision of a just and inclusive society.'
He underlined that women form the backbone of Telangana's social fabric, and the government remains unwavering in its mission to ensure equal access to education, employment, and leadership. The government is establishing Mahila Shakti Canteens at government offices and tourist locations and has already distributed Rs 21,000 crore in zero interest loans within just the first year of this initiative. Furthermore, Telangana has entered agreements with oil corporations to set up petrol bunks in all 31 districts, which will be managed by women's collectives, in an effort to further promote self reliance and financial security.

Two central agencies procure 90,000 tonnes of onions so far, to complete target by first week of Aug
Nashik: Two central govt agencies have procured around 90,000 tonnes of onions from the farmer producers' companies so far against Centre's target of 3 lakh tonnes for these agencies to create a buffer stock. The National Agricultural Co-operative Marketing Federation of India Ltd (Nafed) and the National Cooperative Consumers' Federation of India Limited (NCCF) procured onions at the average price of Rs 1,634 per quintal during the last three weeks. At present, both the agencies are procuring onions at the rate of Rs 1,575 per quintal. The rates are decided by the department of consumer affairs of Union govt. Officials from the two agencies said they would complete their procurement target by Aug first week. "While NCCF has procured 54,000 tonnes of onions so far, Nafed has procured 35,000 tonnes," an official said. Union govt undertakes onion procurement annually to create a buffer stock to manage the supply of onions, particularly during the potential scarcity periods around Aug-Sept each year. Last year, govt procured 4.7 lakh tonnes of onions through Nafed and NCCF to build the buffer stock. "We have also started the registration of farmers who want to sell their produce to NCCF. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like This Could Be the Best Time to Trade Gold in 5 Years IC Markets Learn More Undo They can register on our web portal. 26k flats in stalled Amrapali projects ready, 8k by Sept
Noida: Marred by delays over GRAP restrictions and fund crisis, National Buildings Construction Corporation (NBCC) will complete the construction of 8,000 flats in the stalled projects of Amrapali Group by Sept 2025, six months after its initial deadline of March. Of the 37,000 stalled units that govt-run construction company was tasked to complete under Supreme Court-appointed court receiver, 26,800 flats have been constructed so far. The last of the stalled projects, Adarsh Awas Yojna, is expected to be ready by March 2026. NBCC officials said once units are ready, they notify the court receiver, which verifies documents before issuing no-objection certificates (NOCs) to homebuyers. NBCC CMD KP Mahadevaswamy told TOI that although the projects were initially planned for completion by March 2025, construction-related restrictions under the Graded Response Action Plan (GRAP) and delays in approvals for additional floor area ration (FAR) led to a funding crunch. "As a result, the first phase will now conclude by Sept 2025, except for Adarsh Awas Yojna, which has close to 2,000 flats and will be completed by March 2026," he added. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Experience the thrill on every turn with the new SP125 Honda Learn More Undo NBCC has collected around Rs 2,600 crore from buyers, with Rs 500 crore still pending from about 3,900 units. Currently, work is underway in two phases of Verona Heights and Dream Valley Phase 2, and some other projects. Launched in 2010, Amrapali projects faced severe delays, prompting homebuyers to approach the National Consumer Forum and later the Supreme Court in 2017. Following an SC-ordered forensic audit submitted in March 2019, which revealed gross fund mismanagement, the court appointed a receiver and designated NBCC as the project management consultant in July 2019. Initially, NBCC struggled with funding but later secured Rs 650 crore from SBI CAP for six projects and a Rs 1,500 crore loan from a consortium of banks. It also collected Rs 2,200 crore from homebuyers and recovered around Rs 2,000 crore by selling Amrapali promoters' assets to keep the construction moving. NBCC has also infused over Rs 650 crore from its own funds.

‘No expert appointed in casual approach towards cybercrime'
Raipur: The third day of the Monsoon Session of the Chhattisgarh Legislative Assembly witnessed another round of heated exchanges and debates as cybercrime and PMAY and MNREGA payments were brought up by BJP and Congress MLAs to pull up the govt over the alleged inaction, delays and negligence in the state. 'The rising cases of cybercrime' in the state figured in as BJP MLA targeted the government, alleging gross negligence and delay in action despite the alarming surge in cyber frauds across the state. Raising the issue during the Question Hour in the House, senior BJP MLA Sunil Soni questioned the govt's inaction and 'casual approach', saying, "Cyber frauds are being reported across the state every day. Thousands have fallen victim, and in some tragic cases, people have even committed suicide. Yet, not a single cyber expert has been appointed so far. The situation is dire and demands immediate attention. But there seems to be no serious effort to address the issue." He also questioned the effectiveness of the cyber policing efforts "There seems to be no serious efforts to address the issue. There's no clarity about cyber thanas as promised, nor any awareness where the cases should be registered. NCRB and AI-based reports confirm over 16,000 cybercrime cases have been reported" he said. Responding to the claims, home minister Sharma said that 1,301 cybercrime cases had been registered in the state. He dismissed AI-based data, claiming the government was working with "verified figures," and clarified that cyber cells, not stations, had been established in every district. "The NCRB has not published new data since 2022, so questioning recent figures is baseless," Sharma added. BJP MLAs Ajay Chandrakar and Rajesh Munat also raised concerns. Chandrakar demanded clarity on how many cyber commandos had been trained and how many appointments had been made. Sharma reiterated that the recruitment of specialists was "in process," but failed to give a timeline. "The cyber experts are being empanelled under the IT Act while batch of six trained cyber experts including an IPS are already on job as experts. This is a continuous process and appointments will be done." Munat cited figures indicating Rs 107 crore had been siphoned off through cyber fraud in the state, of which only about Rs 3 crore had been recovered. He demanded the appointment of a senior officer to oversee the situation. Sharma responded that recovery of funds is subject to court procedures and that an IG-level officer has already been appointed for cybercrime. In response to a query on arrests made between Jan 2024 and June 2025, Sharma said three bank-related fraud cases had led to the imprisonment of seven accused, from Raipur, Durg and Bilaspur.
