Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss already planning for Premier Division after sealing promotion
Rutherglen Glencairn co-boss Joe Pryce was delighted to seal promotion on Saturday, but is already rebuilding for life in the West of Scotland Premier Division.
A 1-0 win at Blantyre Vics sealed second spot in the First Division, and Glens make the step-up as league top-scorers on 81, but also having conceded more than either of their fellow promoted teams Renfrew and Arthurlie, with 47.
It's that back-line that will be the focus of player searches, and Pryce is certainly not resting on any laurels.
He said: 'You're in with the big guns and we're just going to enjoy the moment just now.
'But we'll get in this week and we'll be working hard on recruiting.
'There will be a few players at our club moving on, it happens every year, so we've got to try and recruit in the right areas of the team.
'Last season we knew that goal-scoring was the Achilles heel for us, because we didn't score enough – Ryan McManus was the only player to reach double figures.
'We knew we had to address that, which we did, bringing in Jack McIlveen and Scott Jarvie, who both managed to hit double figures as well.
'We're the league's top goal-scorers, but we perhaps need to look at the other end, because we did concede too many.
'We know we're not going to score that amount of goals in the top division, so we need to keep the back door shut, and that's probably where we're going to be looking to recruit for.'
Pryce says promotion was a reward for the whole club, and praised the team's consistency.
He said: 'Even in the times when we maybe weren't winning, we were still picking up a point, it wasn't as if we were losing all the time, and it keeps that scoreboard ticking over – and in the end, those points that we picked up ended up being really crucial.
'It has been a tough season, but it was always going to be, and I'm really pleased and proud of my whole club because they've been fantastic.
'We have a small but loyal group of fans who follow us everywhere, so it's reward for them.
'Our hard-working committee were rewarded as well, I've got the best general manager in Willie Harvey that anybody could ask for, he has been so supportive, rock-solid behind the management team since day one. Anything we want he's there for us, and he has been absolutely brilliant.
'Last but not least, my management team – my co-boss Billy Ogilvie, Tam Miller, Stevie Hutchison – I'm really fortunate to be working with them, and for such a good club.
'We were absolutely delighted on Saturday to get it over the line, though it was a wee bit nervy.
'The players stood strong, and that was the most important thing. Their concentration levels were fantastic, and that got us over the line.
'I'm so pleased for them. I'm delighted for Glencairn, because I know how hard everybody at the club works, and they've got their reward.'

Shotts gaffer fires warning ahead of Premier Division opener
The Bonny are all set for kick-off in the West of Scotland League this weekend John McKeown has warned his Shotts side they must stop taking their foot off the gas in games as they prepare for their West of Scotland Premier Division opener this weekend. The Hannah Park boss watched the Bonny blow a 3-0 half-time lead to draw 3-3 with Blantyre Vics on Saturday in their final friendly match of pre-season, where goals from Marc McKenzie, Liam Craig and Kieran McGuire appeared to put them on easy street. That came off the back of his side easing up in the recent friendly wins over Fauldhouse and Thorniewood. But a tougher test awaits on Saturday when Glenafton Athletic come calling (kick-off 2pm) in their top flight opener and McKeown has told his players he isn't happy with their recent habit. He said: 'It has been a wee bit of a pattern in our pre-season, starting really well and doing well for the first half hour, then taking our foot off the gas. At Fauldhouse we were 5-0 up and then it finished 5-1, at Thorniewood we were 3-0 up and it finished 3-2, although in those ones we were bringing on kids. 'But on Saturday there was no excuse for it because we never made that many changes. 'I could accept the other two but on Saturday we kept the team strong because we had been taking our foot off the gas - and we still conceded three! I was quite annoyed by that. 'We are missing seven or eight players due to holidays but they will be back this week. 'It is about ironing out this bad habit because the first 45 minutes on Saturday was the best football I've seen us play at Hannah Park in a long time. We looked great, we praised the boys at half-time and then they go and do what they did, so we had a go at them. But it is better doing it now than in the league games. 'This weekend we'll play Glenafton, who are a really good side. We beat them in the West Cup last season and they beat us in the league at their place, then drew at Hannah Park. 'They've got a really experienced manager in Paul Paton, who has played at a really good level. He's really improved them over the last six months so it is going to be difficult. 'We'll need to make sure everyone works hard on the training pitch to be ready for it. I have seen a lot of positives and some really good stuff, but I have seen some negatives as well and I think we are a wee bit short in certain areas.' McKeown revealed he is hoping to add to his squad before the weekend with defender Sam Greenwood out injured long term. He added: 'Hopefully we have one new face in before Saturday. We've been dealt a huge blow with Sam, so we'll need to strengthen in that area.'

Threave Rovers boss targets second successive West of Scotland League promotion
Danny Dunglinson is aiming for a top three spot - even though the top eight would be promoted due to league reconstruction. Threave Rovers boss Danny Dunglinson wants a second successive promotion - but not by 'default'. The Castle Douglas side kick-off life in the second division of the West of Scotland League against Blantyre Vics on Saturday. League reconstruction means the top eight will be promoted – but Dunglinson is targeting a top three place. He said: 'The top eight goes up with the restructure but for me going up is still in the top three. 'That would get you up any season, this season is a one-off and we don't want to go up through default in seventh or eighth, we want to be pushing for the top three. 'I don't see why we can't make that if we start well and apply ourselves. 'The year we've had as this group and as a management team in the third division will be invaluable. 'Even though I've played in the West, I was taken a bit by surprise and was perhaps a bit naive with the way I wanted to play. 'The boys have seen the West is a hard league and have been playing against big, strong men who have played at a good level. 'I hope that lets us kick on this season and push at the top end. 'We've always felt the third division was more of a battle. The higher you go there's more structure and more football played. 'When it's a football game, we feel confident we can play anyone in the West but having to adapt to the physical side was where we struggled. 'We've adapted to the physical side and now we've stepped up a bit more football might be played.' Threave finished their pre-season preparations with a 2-1 win over Penrith on Saturday. And Dunglinson is pleased with how things have gone over the summer - even though he admitted results are irrelevant. He said: 'It's nice to get into the habit of winning games and creating momentum. 'We've had four good results. Performance wise there's been some good points, although I wouldn't say we've played well for 90 minutes over one game. 'It's given us stuff to work on and I'd rather we had stuff to work on than a perfect pre-season then you get to the first game and things start to go wrong. 'I feel we're stronger than last year. We've added four or five and only lost one. With no disrespect to the under-20s who came in at times last season, I feel the quality is up. 'At times last year we were a bit short and when boys were missing there weren't as many options to change it. This year, with a bigger squad I feel if one or two are missing we're equally as strong.' Like Threave, Saturday's visitors to Meadow Park Blantyre Vics are new to the second division - having been relegated last year. Dunglinson added: 'From what I'm hearing, they'll feel they should be there or there abouts. They've put a bit of money towards getting back up – I think they only won three games last season but it's a totally new squad so you can't read too much into that. 'From speaking to people in and around the league, every team says their aim is to go up. It's a unique opportunity with eight going up and I think it'll take until Christmas to see who is pushing for the top three or four and who is down in ninth or 10th. 'It's a strange one as it's a totally new league for us and they probably don't know a lot more about us. It's maybe a good thing as we won't go in underestimating teams.'
