Dodge Charger Scat Pack Can't Shake Virginia Trooper
We don't see too many interesting chases from Viriginia State Police, but this one involving a fleeing Dodge Charger Scat Pack has plenty of excitement. It also showcases the superior driving skills of at least one state trooper, even though he's severely outgunned in the chase. The dashcam footage from this incident sure is interesting to watch. The camera car joins in the pursuit after the Mopar muscle car gets away from one member of VSP.
We see the trooper coming in hot, passing on the shoulder and doing all he can to get into position on another highway before the suspect comes along. All his effort pays off as he gets in right behind the matte purple Scat Pack.
But the suspect is determined to get away. The guy pulls a risky move, cutting across the gore point and almost hitting a barrier, taking an exit at the last second. While the trooper isn't fooled even a little, the Charger blacks out, trying to take advantage of its non-reflective, dark exterior to disappear into the night.
We get a clue about how skilled the suspect driver is when he immediately hits his turn signal a few times, defeating the purpose of blacking out.
But once the suspect goes through a transition ramp and gets on yet another highway, he nails it and takes off, easily pulling away from the trooper. It's difficult for most police cruisers to keep up with such high-powered vehicles.
For his part, the trooper, keeps the suspect in sight and relays his moves to dispatch. Then the suspect gets off the highway, perhaps hoping the turns on surface streets will let him ditch his tail. Outgunned, the trooper has a lot to handle, but he leverages superior driving skill to make up for the lack of horsepower.
What our suspect doesn't know is troopers down the line are setting up spikes to blow out the Mopar muscle car's tires. However, a sudden turn onto a freeway thwarts that trap. It doesn't matter anyway, because not too long after the trooper notices one of the rear drive tires on the Dodge is blown out.
His ability to flee greatly reduced, our suspect almost becomes a sitting duck as the trooper goes in for the kill. But before he can close the gap all the way, the driver bails and runs, realizing the muscle car is done.
We hope he got a criminal charge for that wrap, because it's a violation of good taste.

2 charged in connection with Eagan street racing crash that killed 2
Two people face charges in connection with a high-speed crash that killed two young men, which authorities said occurred during a street race. Melody Little, 24 of West St. Paul, and Jordan Weiland, a 20-year-old from White Bear Lake, are each charged with two counts of third-degree murder and two counts of criminal vehicular homicide, according to court documents filed Thursday. The fatal crash happened in Eagan, Minnesota, on June 14. According to a criminal complaint, responding police found three vehicles: a Jeep that was split in half, a Honda with "significant damage" and an undamaged Dodge. Investigators said the three vehicles were going from a "car meet up" in South St. Paul to another in Eagan when the Jeep and Honda lost control on Highway 55. Both went over the concrete median, and the Jeep hit a pole. Police identified Little and Weiland as the drivers of the Dodge and Honda, respectively. Weiland left the scene in another vehicle and police later found him at a hospital, the complaint states. Both people in the Jeep — 19-year-old Reed Schultz and 18-year-old Finnian Cronin — were unresponsive and taken to a hospital. Schultz died shortly after arrival, and Cronin died of his injuries on July 1. Witnesses told police the cars were going more than 100 mph before the crash and presumed they were racing. Videos taken inside the Dodge and Honda confirm each car was going about 110 mph, the complaint states. Little and Weiland both denied they were racing when interviewed by police, though Weiland "agreed that his actions were eminently dangerous," the complaint states. Finnian Cronin's mother Teresa Cronin said his death "is just earth-shattering and life-changing for all of us." The family has received an outpouring of support from the community. "One night, driving home from the hospital, I said to Teresa, 'Do you have any anger towards anyone?' And she said, 'No, I just, my heart breaks for the parents of the other kid,'" said Finnian Cronin's father, Chris Cronin. "Just a terribly unfortunate thing that happened to a bunch of kids that made a poor decision." Note: The video above originally aired July 21, 2025.

The Florida Highway Patrol is searching for a man they say pulled out a gun and shot at another car on the Palmetto Expressway. Troopers say that on Thursday, around 2 p.m., they got a call about the shooting that occurred in the northbound lanes near Flagler Street. The driver of the targeted vehicle, a black Cadillac sedan, was not injured, but the rear window had a visible bullet hole. Investigators say the confrontation began near Southwest 24th Street and escalated when the suspect, driving a white Dodge truck, pulled out a gun and fired.

Virginia State Police Are Now Driving S650 Mustangs
Read the full story on The Auto Wire If you live in or travel through Virginia, be on the lookout for state troopers behind the wheel of S650 Mustangs. Virginia State Police just announced a whole slate of these new pony cars have officially been added to the fleet and delivered to troopers, so they're out on the prowl as we of the Mustangs are GTs with nary an EcoBoost in the lineup. It might be a tough pill for the four-banger crowd to swallow, but the Coyote V8 not only is more powerful, it's far more reliable and durable. Those sorts of things matter to law enforcement agencies. Ford will allow law enforcement and other government entities to create custom specs of duty cars. In this case, VSP appears to have selected the wheels and Brembo brakes included in the GT Performance Package without also including the rear wing (maybe that interfered with the cruiser's equipment?). With a top speed of 155 mph, these Mustangs are fast, making it harder for determined suspects to ditch troopers in a chase. That might be in part why we see more and more law enforcement adding pony cars to their fleets. It probably also doesn't hurt that Dodge has watered down its performance, forcing police to look elsewhere for fast rides. There are some problems with using Mustangs in law enforcement. For one, they don't have a push bar, so officers can't do a PIT maneuver with them. With only two doors, there's no putting suspects in the backseat. Also, interior space is more cramped than in an SUV, so police have to deal with that challenge. But something tells us VSP troopers won't complain. However, speeders and aggressive/distracted drivers will probably loathe these new Mustang GTs added to the fleet.
