Chinese sprinter gets leading gaokao marks on second go, earning a shot at top universities
A Chinese track and field sprinter has scored a staggering 462 in the national college entrance exam, or gaokao, earning her a place in the country's top universities.

Liu Xiajun, 19, took the gaokao for the second time earlier this month after her score last summer fell short of admission to the country's best school, Tsinghua University in Beijing.
Liu, who is from the city of Ziyang in southwest China's Sichuan province, rejected an offer from the prestigious Fudan University in Shanghai in 2024, considered China's second best, to chase a spot at the institution in Beijing.
'I was very surprised [when I got my results] and asked my teacher: 'Is there a mistake in the results?',' Liu said.
'I believe that the most important factor in achieving such results before entering formal education is perseverance.

Team bus of CSL leaders Beijing Guoan seized over debt issues, players forced to hire bikes
Chinese Super League (CSL) leaders Beijing Guoan have had their team bus seized, forcing players to return from training using shared bikes, as the club's parent company struggles with billions of yuan of debt. Advertisement Pictures on social media on Friday showed the team bus being towed away with its door bearing a seal from the Beijing Intermediate People's Court. Images then started circulating on Chinese social media showing three of the club's foreign players hiring shared bikes and riding away from the training complex wearing their kit. The real estate company Sinobo Group holds a 64 per cent stake in Beijing Guoan and reportedly owes more than 3.68 billion yuan (US$502 million). Despite the off-field issues, Guoan invested heavily in the build-up to the 2025 season, including bringing in former Barcelona manager Quique Setien to lead the team, as well as seven first-team players. With big matches coming to Hong Kong, it's important that all fans feel safe
Hong Kong has caught football fever, with the city playing host to a string of high-profile events. Top European teams will soon compete in a 'football festival' and a museum dedicated to superstar Cristiano Ronaldo opens this month. Hopes of bringing the Brazilian national team to the city were revealed last week. But all of this has, so far, been outshone by a match featuring the Hong Kong team. The vibrant atmosphere created by more than 42,000 fans celebrating the recent win over India was a joy to watch. Local fans enjoyed a memorable evening at the new Kai Tak Stadium. Such occasions give Hong Kong football a much-needed boost. But the experience was not so enjoyable for a 31-year-old Indian woman and resident of the city, who gave her name as Yaga. She alleged she had been harassed and intimidated by rival Hong Kong fans sitting near her in response to her passionate support for the Indian team, posting a video that partly supports her claims. Yaga says water was thrown over her and an obscene gesture made towards her by one local fan. She was laughed at, stared at and taunted, she said.
