PFL 2025 World Tournament 1 Results: Winners And Losers

Forbes03-04-2025
The 2025 PFL World Tournament 1 fight card takes place tonight, Thursday, April 3, at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida. The Professional Fight League event features the opening round matchups in the welterweight and featherweight divisions. The headlining contest sees former Bellator welterweight world champ Jason Jackson facing off against Andrey Koreshkov, who is also an ex-Bellator 170-pound champion. Also on the card, 2021 PFL featherweight tournament winner Movlid Khaybulaev faces former Bellator featherweight title challenger Jeremy Kennedy. Below, we will have the 2025 PFL World Tournament 1 fight card results, reactions, winner and losers, video highlights, and more as they happen on fight night.
The 2025 PFL tournament is different from past events. The previous iterations awarded the winner of each weight division with $1 million. This year, the tournament winners will earn $500,000.
Another difference in 2025 is that the tournament is structured as a single-elimination bracketed event. In the past, fighters earned points in two regular-season bouts, with the highest point earners moving onto the playoffs. This year, eight fighters (and two alternates) have been seeded in a tournament bracket, with the winners moving on to the next round.
Another change is that eight weight divisions are competing rather than six: heavyweight, light heavyweight, middleweight, welterweight, lightweight, featherweight bantamweight, and women's flyweight.
One of the more substantial changes is that all fights will now allow elbows.
The first-round fights and semifinal fights will be three five-minute rounds, while the finals are five five-minute rounds.

Magomed Umalatov, who was one of the betting favorites to win the welterweight tournament is out of the competition after he missed weight on Wednesday. Umalatov, who was a -330 betting favorite to beat Logan Storley in their opening round matchup, weighed in at 173.6 pounds for the welterweight bout. As a result, Joseph Luciano will face Storley in tonight's action.
Umalatov was a finalist in last year's PFL welterweight tournament. He lost to Shamil Musaev in that matchup. Musaev knocked out Umalatov in the third round of that scrap.

Luka Doncic insiders have surprising take on post-Mavericks transformation

Dallas Mavericks insiders have issued an intriguing insight into the now-Los Angeles Lakers All-Star guard Luka Doncic's offseason body metamorphosis. Doncic, 26, was traded by Dallas — along with big men Maxi Kleber and Markieff Morris — midseason to L.A., in exchange for 10-time All-Star center/power forward Anthony Davis, shooting guard Max Christie, and just one first-round draft pick. MORE NEWS:Kendrick Perkins utters bold take on ex-Mavericks star Luka Doncic Both teams also sent a 2025 second-round pick, each, to the Utah Jazz after that club facilitated the deal by taking on the contract of second-year Lakers guard Jalen Hood-Schifino. After Doncic had been flipped, Dallas brass claimed the team had questions about his long-term fitness, criticizing him for playing while out-of-shape. The 6-foot-6 guard had been sidelined by a calf injury for much of the season, ultimately only suiting up for 50 games between the Mavericks and Lakers. Earlier this week, Doncic appeared on the cover of "Men's Health" magazine, debuting a surprisingly shredded physique. Per Dan Woike of The Athletic, sources within Doncic's camp are convinced that he would have made this fitness journey — which includes a rigorous new workout, an expanded training staff, and a new diet — even had he remained on the Mavericks. "That plan, according to some around Doncic, was going to be fulfilled no matter what happened in his pro career. To everyone else, it's so clearly a response to the humiliation and pain caused by the Dallas Mavericks' decision to cast him away from the city where he'd planned on spending the entirety of his career," Doncic adds. The five-time All-NBA superstar, still just 26, certainly seems to be on a vengeance tour. After all, he managed to bring the Mavericks to the 2024 NBA Finals with his prior, less-focused approach to fitness. "Some sources in Doncic's inner circle believed he was on the path toward this kind of physical transformation whether or not Dallas general manager Nico Harrison had bet against him," Woike adds. Nominee: Brunno Ferreira def. Jackson McVey at UFC 318 For all the UFC middleweights who thought they just had to worry about Brunno Ferreira in the standup game, the Brazilian may have made their prep work a little more difficult after taking out Jackson McVey. Ferreira (14-2 MMA, 5-2 UFC) submitted short-notice replacement UFC newcomer McVey (6-1 MMA, 0-1 UFC) with a nasty armbar at the 3:35 mark of the first round, showing diversity to his finishing attacks. Nominee: Jimmy Crute def. Marcin Prachnio at UFC 318 Jimmy Crute is back in the win column for the first time since 2020 – and he reentered in style against Marcin Prachnko. He had to struggle to get it, but eventually Prachnio could not fend off the technique and had to give up. The winner: Costello van Steenis def. Johnny Eblen at PFL Africa If he does nothing else, Costello van Steenis will always be remembered for his insane comeback against Johnny Eblen to claim the PFL middleweight title. Not only did he become PFL middleweight champion, van Steenis (17-3) did so in improbable fashion when he submitted Eblen (16-1) with nine seconds left in their five-round bout. The stoppage came at 4:51 of Round 5. Eblen had utilized his strong wrestling base and relentless pressure to largely dominate van Steenis the entire fight prior to his demise. Entering Round 5, Eblen was up 39-37 on two judges' scorecards with a third having the fight tied 38-38. Eblen got the fight down to the ground midway through Round 5 and took van Steenis' back. With approximately 45 seconds left on the clock, Eblen made a fatal mistake and fell off the top. Van Steenis slickly flipped the script, got Eblen's back, locked in a rear-naked choke, and put Eblen to sleep. Cast Your Vote!
