It's been a wild week at at Jack's Place. Nick Taylor and Ben Griffin opened the third round of action at the 2025 Memorial atop the leaderboard at 7 under, with a host of others all in the running.
Here's a look at all of Saturday's action. (Looking for Friday's second-round coverage? Click here to see cut info and more.)

Scottie Scheffler is right in position
Tell me if you've heard this one before: Scottie Scheffler is in contention to win another PGA Tour event.

The best player in the world was even through 13 holes on Saturday during the third round of play and then rolled off four birdies in his last five holes to get right back at the top of the leaderboard. His final birdie on No. 18 pushed him to 8 under par.
Scheffler has two victories and eight top-10 finishes in 11 starts this year and he hasn't finished outside the top 8 in his last half-dozen starts.
This third-round run is nothing new, as stats guru Justin Ray can attest:
Ben Griffin takes 5-stroke lead
While others are struggling with the conditions, Ben Griffin is cruising, as he's moved out to a 5-stroke lead. His first birdie of the day came on the sixth hole, and he followed with two more on 7 and 8 to improve to 10 under as he approaches the turn.

Griffin opened the day tied with Nick Taylor at 7 under, but Taylor opened with consecutive bogies and has since shot par on five straight holes to remain alone in second at 5 under.
Jordan Spieth is making a move
Don't look now, but Jordan Spieth is making a move during the third round of play. It's been another wild day for Spieth, who has six birdies and four bogeys through his first 16 holes, but he's worked his way just a couple strokes from leader Ben Griffin. Spieth was at 5 under at 6:30 p.m.
Rickie Fowler finishes off great day with a 69
Rickie Fowler hops the creek to the 14th green during the first round of the Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin on May 29, 2025.
It's been a good stretch of golf for Rickie Fowler of late, as he posted a 29 for nine during the Charles Schwab at Colonial and has now worked his way into the top 10 at the Memorial with a 69 on Saturday.

Fowler is at 2 under for the tournament.
Taylor drops two strokes to start, Griffin alone in lead
Griffin did what he did for most of Friday's competition, shooting par on the opening hole to stay at 7 under, but his playing partner wasn't so lucky. Taylor's 24-foot putt for par on the first hole missed by two feet, dropping him to 6 under for the day and one stroke behind Griffin. He followed with another bogey on No. 2, meaning Griffin had a two-stroke lead early on.

Sepp Straka is having birdie fun at Memorial
On Saturday, Sepp Straka notched a half-dozen birdies in a round for the second day in a row en route to posting a 66. What was the difference between Friday and Saturday? The other holes.

In the second round, Straka added a bogey and three doubles, while on Saturday, he was bogey-free.

"I had trouble yesterday in the rain hitting my driver in the fairway, got in some tough positions and, yeah, it's easy to get out of position on this golf course," Straka said. "Any time you're on a tee, you can either make a double or you can make a birdie. It's one of those courses where there's a lot of volatility, and today I executed pretty well, judged my lies very well, and judged the wind very well, which I did not do the first two days."
As of 4:30 p.m., Straka is in fourth place, 3 under and in a five-way tie with Jordan Spieth and others.
Scoring is difficult at Memorial on Saturday
The course is playing difficult today at the Memorial as just four players as of 1:30 p.m. are under par for the round. The leaders have yet to go off, but it's still a sign that a low number will be able to make a big jump today, as the majority of players are giving strokes away. Only Sepp Straka is more than one under for the day thus far, as his two birdies in the first seven holes have pushed him into the top 20 at 1 over for the tournament.
Who's on the Memorial TV broadcast?

There's sunshine at Muirfield
Hideki Matsuyama is first off the tee at 10 a.m. and the 2014 Memorial winner from "The Land of the Rising Sun" is probably glad there is some sun today. Matsuyama, the only Memorial winner from Japan, goes off alone, which means no five-hour round for him.

Who is Bob Baptist and why is he a big deal at the Memorial?

Bob Baptist has been retired since 2015, but still says 'we' and 'us' when discussing sports writers and the media biz. A true newspaper man never forgets, and BB's blood still runs printer ink black.
Trivia question: Who has written more words than anyone about the Memorial Tournament? Answer: Baptist, whose career at The Columbus Dispatch lasted from 1976 until he typed his last sentence nearly four decades later. During that span, BB covered every Memorial, becoming something of a wet-weather expert along the way.

Can Scottie Scheffler earn another milkshake?
Scottie Scheffler shakes hands with tournament Jack Nicklaus after winning the 2024 Memorial Tournament at Muirfield Village Golf Club.
At the 2024 Memorial Tournament, Scottie Scheffler finally was on the receiving end of the coveted winner's handshake from host Jack Nicklaus. It was a meaningful moment for Scheffler, who recalled coming up short at Muirfield Village Golf Club in 2021 and getting a cool consolation prize from the 18-time major winner affectionately called the Golden Bear.
'He shakes my hand and he says, 'Listen Scottie, you didn't make the putt today, but one day you're going to make the putt on this green to win this tournament.' And I said, 'Well thanks, Mr. Nicklaus, I really appreciate the support, thanks for a great week year, yada, yada, yada.' And a couple years later, he was right, I made the putt to win the tournament,' Scheffler recalled during his Wednesday pre-tournament press conference for the 2025 Memorial. 'It was just a really cool kind of full-circle moment.'

Scheffler enters the third round just three shots behind the leaders.

Ryan Gerard and Rico Hoey share the Barracuda Championship lead

TRUCKEE, Calif. (AP) — Ryan Gerard holed a 20-foot flop shot for birdie on the final hole for a share of the lead with Rico Hoey on Saturday in the Barracuda Championship, the only PGA Tour event that uses the modified Stableford scoring system. 'Hit a great shot and was lucky that it found the hole,' Gerard said. 'It's pretty special. Really nice way to finish. Hopefully, it's a good omen for tomorrow.' Players receive eight points for a double eagle, five for eagle and two for birdie. A point is deducted for bogey and three for double bogey. In breezy conditions at Tahoe Mountain Club, Gerard had a 12-point round and Hoey birdied four of the last six in an eight-point day. Both winless on the PGA Tour, they had 34 points, one more than 2021 winner Erik van Rooyen. 'Just keep believing in myself and see what happens,' Hoey said. Gerard is playing for the sixth straight week — a string that began with the U.S. Open and took him to Scotland last week. 'I love this golf course. I love playing in this area. I like playing golf,' Gerard said. 'So, I got in at 2:30 in the morning on Tuesday.' The 25-year-old former North Carolina player, fifth in the event two years ago, was ninth and second in consecutive events in Texas in April. The 29-year-old Hoey was the second-round leader. He was born in the Philippines, grew up in California and played at the University of Southern California. 'Struggled early but kind of caught fire on the back, so it was nice to end that way,' Hoey said. 'I just was praying the putter would get hot because the putter was really cold.' Van Rooyen, from South Africa, eagled the par-5 third in an eight-point round. Tom Vaillant of France was two points back at 32 after a nine-point day. 'Just staying steady as much as I can and trying to avoid mistakes,' Vaillant said. 'Keep the ball in the right spot and stay patient.' Hayden Springer and Vince Whaley had 29 points. Ben Martin, the first-round leader with 16 points, had his second zero-point round to drop into a tie for 55th. Played opposite the British Open, the tournament is co-sanctioned by the European tour. The winner gets into the PGA Championship but not the Masters. ___
