Jack O'Connor hits out at Kerry critics and ex-Kingdom players after Armagh win
Speaking after Kerry's impressive 0-32 to 1-21 win over All-Ireland champs Armagh in Sunday's All-Ireland quarter-final, O'Connor hit out at the way his side were written off inside and outside the county.
And he challenged those criticising the Kerry team to get involved in coaching instead of sniping from the sidelines saying, 'it's very easy to knock people.'
O'Connor said: 'One of the great motivators in life is trying to prove people wrong. We were being portrayed as a one man team.
'I saw somebody writing this morning that the only Kerry player worthy of being called a Kerry player was David Clifford. David is a great player but David would tell you that there was a fair support cast out there today.
'We think we have a lot of good footballers but I think sometimes we are being judged on different criteria to other teams.
'For example, Dublin got beaten by Meath in the Leinster Championship. I didn't see any ex-Dublin players coming out slating the team or slating the management like we had down south in our county.
'There was a sense of commitment to the team and a sense of loyalty to the team. Unfortunately a few pundits let themselves down in that regard.'
O'Connor continued: 'I'm not giving out about it from my own point of view. I just gave the example that I never hear Dublin's ex-players slating the team.
'They're loyal to the group, they're loyal to the county and they give their support. What's to be gained by slating people? It's the easiest thing in the world. I'm in the business of building people up. I'm not in the business of knocking people.
'I spent all my life coaching underage school kids, minors, Under-21s, seniors, at every level. I'm in the business of building people, not knocking people. I'd ask people who are knocking that group and knocking people involved with the group to look in the mirror and say, 'What have you contributed? What have you contributed to Kerry football off the field?' You know what I mean?
'It's very easy to knock people. Go away and coach a team. Go away and coach a development squad. Coach a minor team. That's how you help, not knocking people."

GAA manager Rory Gallagher seeks damages from Jarlath Burns and the association over alleged defamation
GAA coach and former Derry football manager Rory Gallagher is seeking damages for alleged defamation and wants injunctions against the organisation and its president, Jarlath Burns. A plenary summons filed in the High Court contains a series of claims linked to a controversy earlier this year about his taking on a new role with the Naas senior football team. After it emerged in January that he was being considered for the role, Mr Burns emailed the Kildare club outlining his concerns and the Naas GAA executive opted not to go ahead with the proposed appointment. Mr Gallagher, a former Fermanagh and Cavan footballer, stepped down as Derry manager in May 2023 after his ex-wife, Nicola, made allegations of domestic abuse. A PSNI investigation brought no charges. READ MORE An Ulster Council 'temporary debarment' pending review was overturned by the GAA's independent Dispute Resolution Authority in February 2024. 'I categorically deny the allegations levelled against me. I have engaged with every procedure available to me,' Mr Gallagher said in a statement in January. 'The [Public Prosecution Service for Northern Ireland] have issued two separate decisions finding that I have no case to answer. 'I have the full custody of my three children, and most importantly I engaged with the GAA's own procedures which set aside my disbarment.' Mr Burns, in his correspondence with Naas, acknowledged he had no authority to dictate club decisions and offered his opinion that the appointment of Mr Gallagher could have far-reaching consequences. Now Mr Gallagher is seeking damages against GAA director Tomás Ó Riain, as the nominated representative of the GAA, and Mr Burns in his personal capacity and in his role as president of the association. He is seeking damages for alleged defamation arising from an email sent on January 5th and an injunction preventing the defendants from publishing any 'similar malicious falsehoods'. Mr Gallagher wants a declaration that the defendants acted in breach of contract and due process when they, in effect, disciplined him on January 5th, thereby failing to be bound by a determination of the Dispute Resolution Authority in February 2024, and associated damages. He is further seeking a declaration, and damages, that the defendants wrongfully induced or procured Naas to breach its lawful contractual obligations arising from a contract 'made orally' between him and the Kildare club on or about late December 2024. Mr Gallagher also wants an order restraining the defendants from inducing or procuring breaches of any contracts that may exist between him and other GAA clubs. In his case, where he is being represented by Phoenix Law solicitors, Belfast, Mr Gallagher is also seeking several other declarations and orders by the court. A spokesman for the GAA said it had no comment. On RTE's the Late Late Show in January, Mr Burns expressed the hope that Mr Gallagher would not take legal action. 'There is always a way back for people,' he said. 'The GAA is not interested in cancel culture. There is always a way back for people and we have told Rory that as well. Rory is aware of the way back for him. I wish him and all of his family well and I hope we can reach a resolution on this.'

Meath should have too much experience and know-how for Tipperary
It will be Meath's third attempt to reach the semi-final since they defeated Galway on their way to back-to-back All-Ireland titles in 2022. With home advantage on both occasions Kerry defeated Meath at this quarter-final stage in 2023 and 2024. However, Meath will feel that they are now in a much healthier state to end that quarter-final losing streak. Securing home advantage should also be crucial after Meath topped Group 3 following a draw with last year's semi-finalists Armagh and a win over Kildare. Back in 2019, Tipperary defeated Meath 2-16 to 1-14 in the All-Ireland Intermediate Championship Final and there will be quite a few survivors from that team in Shane McCormack's line up on Sunday. Current captain Aoibhin Cleary, Vikki and Sarah Wall, Katie Newe, Emma Duggan, Megan Thynne and Shauna Ennis saw action that day and should involved again in this latest clash against the Premier County. The counties clashed in the group stages of the Senior Football Championship in 2021 where Meath enjoyed a 1-18 to 0-7 success in O'Moore Park, Portlaoise and then 12 months ago it ended 2-15 to 2-12 in favour of the hosts at Pairc Tailteann. Tipperary drew 1-6 apiece with Kerry in the final round of games in the Munster Championship but earlier defeats to both Waterford and Cork had already ended their hopes. In Group One of the All-Ireland series Tipperary lost to Galway 1-13 to 0-7 before securing the place in the knockout stages following a 0-11 to 1-6 win over Donegal. Aisling Moloney is still a pivotal figure for Tipperary while Anna Rose Kennedy is also a top class performer for the Munster side. Meath have shown mixed form so far throughout the year in league and championship. They produced one of their better displays in the Leinster final against Dublin and their lack of experience in certain areas probably cost them. However, they took that form into the All-Ireland series forcing a draw at home to Armagh before securing their knockout spot with a win over Kildare. Despite the loss of so many regulars in the aftermath of the second All-Ireland win, Meath still possess two of the best players in the country in Emma Duggan and Vikki Wall. Aoibhin Cleary, Niamh Gallogly, Mary Kate Lynch, Megan Thynne and Katie Newe are all capable of performing at the top level while the return of Shauna Ennis following a lengthy layoff with injury has proved a boost. Home advantage is also a big plus at this stage of the competition and overall Meath should have too much experience and know-how at this level for a Tipperary side struggling to find consistency.
