Blue Jays Receive Daulton Varsho News Before Red Sox Game

Blue Jays Receive Daulton Varsho News Before Red Sox Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The Toronto Blue Jays have enjoyed a strong first half of the season, boasting a 43-37 record, as they prepare for a weekend series against the Boston Red Sox. Despite managing several injuries across its roster, Toronto remains in the playoff hunt, currently sitting at third in the AL East, just half a game behind the Tampa Bay Rays. Advertisement Toronto's outfield depth has been tested recently, prompting close monitoring of key players returning from injury. Among those is veteran center fielder Daulton Varsho, who has been sidelined since late May with a hamstring strain. His return could provide a boost to both the lineup and defense heading into the season's second half. Toronto Blue Jays center fielder Daulton Varsho (5)© John E. Sokolowski-Imagn Images According to manager John Schneider, there's encouraging progress on that front. Varsho is now 'running a little bit more' and could be cleared to run the bases soon, signaling positive progress as he prepares to return to game action. He reportedly resumed running on Wednesday after a brief setback on Monday, and initial MRI results showed scar‑tissue irritation rather than structural damage, which keeps his rehab timeline intact (via CBS Sports). Varsho electrified fans earlier this season by averaging a .207 batting average. He has launched eight home runs, with 19 hits and 20 RBIs in just 24 games while providing Gold Glove level defense in center field. Advertisement While Varsho continues his recovery, the Blue Jays (18-21 on the road) will hope to improve their record away from home when they take on the Red Sox at Fenway Park on Friday. Yankees Announce Trent Grisham News After Leaving Blue Jays Game

Yankees Announce Trent Grisham News After Leaving Blue Jays Game originally appeared on Athlon Sports. The New York Yankees are first place in the AL East, but they are only a couple of bad days away from giving up that title. Advertisement New York entered Monday's bout with the Toronto Blue Jays 1.5 games ahead of the Tampa Bay Rays and three games ahead of Toronto. Monday started a four-game series between the Yankees and Blue Jays at the Rogers Centre. Yankees outfielder Trent Grisham is partially responsible for the team's success this season, as he entered Monday with 15 homers and 32 RBI through 71 games. His homer total was already tied for a career-high. New York Yankees center fielder Trent Grisham (12)Vincent Carchietta-Imagn Images However, Grisham left the game early with an injury, via Brian Hoch. There was initial uncertainty among fans as to what caused his exit. At this time of year, there is always speculation of trades, but no reports surfaced of Grisham saying farewell to his teammates in the dugout. Advertisement Not too long after his departure, the Yankees announced that the veteran exited with left hamstring tightness. This confirmed it was injury related, and had nothing to do with trade rumors. Grisham entered the night slashing .244/.346/.467 for the season. He is in his seventh MLB season and second with the Yankees. Blue Jays starting pitcher Max Scherzer made his third start of the season on Monday after rehabbing a thumb injury. He finished with two runs allowed on three hits in five innings. New York infielder Jazz Chisholm Jr. hit a two-run homer in the fourth that plated Grisham. Insider: Phillies linked to two elite relievers from same NL Central team

The Philadelphia Phillies might get help from one National League Central team to upgrade their troubled bullpen. According to Pittsburgh sports insider Andrew Fillipponi of 93.7 The Fan, the NL East leaders have had trade conversations with the Pirates about acquiring both David Bednar and Dennis Santana, two high-leverage relievers the Phillies desperately need. The Phillies' bullpen struggles are well-documented. They rank 25th in baseball with a 4.55 ERA, lost lefty Jose Alvarado for 80 games due to a PED suspension that also prohibits him from pitching in the postseason, watched top free-agent acquisition Jordan Romano post a 7.28 ERA, and seen 2024 All-Star Matt Strahm regress with a 3.78 ERA and 1.230 WHIP. Advertisement Bednar and Santana would provide a major boost for Philadelphia's bullpen, though it would cost significant prospect capital. Bednar has turned his season around after a disastrous start that saw the Pirates option him following the first three games. Since returning April 19, he has a 1.79 ERA across 29 appearances (2.83 for the season). He hasn't allowed an earned run in June over ten innings and has 41 strikeouts in 28 2/3 innings. Santana has a 1.50 ERA in 36 appearances, allowing just six earned runs in 36 innings. He's not a strikeout pitcher but keeps batters off base with a 0.778 WHIP. Both relievers remain under team control through 2026. Advertisement If the Phillies want to make a serious postseason run, they need to bolster their bullpen. Trading for both Bednar and Santana would address that need and move them closer to a World Series championship. Related Headlines
