Saints safety J.T. Gray just suffered the first injury of training camp

USA Today2 days ago
New Orleans Saints veteran safety J.T. Gray suffered a lower-body injury during Monday's practice, which was the first injury of this year's training camp.
Afterwards, Saints head coach Kellen Moore said that Gray was still being evaluated, but that he did not "think that it was anything bad." Moore also later added that he will be able to provide more of an update on Tuesday after tests are completed.
Rod Walker of The Times-Picayune noted that Gray had slipped during a special teams session, which makes sense as that is the main role that Gray plays on the team.
Gray is one of the longest-tenured players on the roster, having been in New Orleans since he entered the league as an undrafted rookie in 2018 (out of Mississippi State)). He has only played 153 career snaps on defense, but has 2,065 career snaps on special teams. He made the All-Pro first team in 2021, when he was also recognized as a Pro Bowler, and has made the second team twice, most recently last year.

Valkyries survive fourth-quarter wilting to win on jumper with 3.2 seconds to go

ATLANTA — The Golden State Valkyries finally notched another road win, but it wasn't pretty. In a 77-75 defeat of the Dream on Tuesday night, Golden State blew a 13-point fourth-quarter lead only to have Cecilia Zandalasini make a steal with 19.4 seconds to play and then rattle in an 11-foot jumper left with 3.2 to go for the victory. The Valkyries (12-13) won for only the fourth time in 13 road games avoided a fourth consecutive defeat away from Chase Center, Golden State had gone ahead 69-56 thanks to a 30-point third frame, but fell silent for most of the fourth when it was outscored 19-8. The game's final minutes endured several lengthy stops, including with a minute to go and the score tied 75-75 when a spectator threw a sex toy onto the floor. Center Monique Billings started her first game since before the All-Star break after being questionable with a left ankle injury, but left the game after playing 8:52 and did not return. Billings started the game defending 6-foot-9 Brittney Griner, and she held the Dream center to four points and one rebound in the first half. Every Valkyries backcourt player had at least three fouls by the start of the fourth frame. Janelle Salaün picked up her fourth early in the third quarter, while Iliana Rupert picked up two of her three within minutes of picking up Griner on defense. After being tied at the half, Golden State went on a 10-0 run midway through the third quarter on Hayes' third trey of the night before layups from Veronica Burton and Laeticia Amihere and a buzzer-beating 3-pointer from Burton. Congratulations Pouring In For NFL Legend Michael Vick

Congratulations Pouring In For NFL Legend Michael Vick originally appeared on The Spun. It's the start of a new era for legendary NFL QB Michael Vick. After changing the game with his dynamic running ability and opening the door for players like Lamar Jackson to thrive, the former Falcons/Eagles quarterback is continuing his redemption arc by going back to school — only this time as a coach. Back in December, the four-time Pro Bowler was named the head football coach at HBCU Norfolk State — a 40 minute drive from his hometown of Newport News. Taking to social media on Monday, Vick shared a portrait in his new team colors with the caption: "Year 1." Fans were hyped in the comments. "Let's go! Chess not checkers!!!" Cynthia Frelund replied. "Crazy how this played out," a user said. "I still remember sitting at the lunch table discussing your rookie year when I was young." "Lets Go Vick!!!" ex-wideout Jacquez Green exclaimed. "Best of luck to you this season Coach Vick🫶🏽" a fan posted. "I will be at Norfolk homecoming this year. 100%" an alum commented. "We all rooting for you 🫡" a student saluted. "Go Be Great. 🐐" "I'm so happy for him🥹" another person shared. Vick retired from pro football in 2017 where he continued his advocacy against the animal cruelty that derailed the prime of his career and served as an analyst for FOX Sports. He also interned with Andy Reid and the Kansas City Chiefs later that year where he was able to see the team at the beginning stages of its dynasty. "A prestigious HBCU with a rich athletics history, NSU provides a tremendous environment for students to reach their full potential on the field and just as importantly, in the classroom," Vick said after taking the job at Norfolk. "I am honored to join the Norfolk State family." Best of luck to Mike in his first stint as a head coach!Congratulations Pouring In For NFL Legend Michael Vick first appeared on The Spun on Jul 28, 2025 This story was originally reported by The Spun on Jul 28, 2025, where it first appeared.

Trey Hendrickson Reportedly Set To End Holdout, Will Report To Bengals Camp

The last big name that's holding out of training camp will report to his team soon. Cincinnati Bengals star edge rusher Trey Hendrickson, who led the NFL in sacks in 2024, is ending his holdout amid a contract dispute, according to multiple reports. Hendrickson and the Bengals still don't have a deal in place yet, though, with it being unlikely he'll practice until he has a new contract, NFL Media reported. Even though Hendrickson remains without a new deal, his decision to leave Florida and head back to Cincinnati is being viewed as a "good-faith gesture" to try and continue contract talks, ESPN reported. It'll also save Hendrickson some money as the Bengals could fine him $50,000 for each day he missed during training camp. Hendrickson and the Bengals have been at odds over his contract since the start of the offseason. He was granted permission to seek a trade at one point, but no deal was ever reached. As Hendrickson enters the final year of his deal and is owed $16 million, the contracts for top edge rushers have grown exponentially this offseason. T.J. Watt became the latest to earn a rich deal at the position, agreeing to a three-year, $123 million ($41 million per year) deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. Hendrickson wasn't shy in expressing his displeasure over his contract situation, either. He only showed up for Cincinnati's voluntary workouts once, telling reporters how frustrated he was about the situation. "We've tried to keep it the least amount personal as possible, but at some point in this process it becomes personal," Hendrickson told reporters on May 13. "Being sent 30 days before mandatory camp, or how many ever days it is, that if I don't show up, I will be fined, alludes to the fact that something won't get done in that time frame. "The lack of communication post draft made it imminently clear to my party — meaning my wife, my son and my agent, a small group of people — that this might not work out." After missing the majority of the Bengals' voluntary practices, Hendrickson skipped out on organized team activities (OTAs) in June. He was eligible to receive up to $105,000 in fines as a result. The 30-year-old Hendrickson has been a big reason for the Bengals' sudden rise in recent years. After signing a four-year, $60 million deal to join the Bengals in free agency during the 2021 offseason, Hendrickson has been named a Pro Bowler in each of the last four seasons. He has recorded at least 14.0 sacks in three of his first four seasons in Cincinnati, recording 56.0 total sacks since joining the Bengals. Additionally, Hendrickson has also been good at generating pressure. He had 83 pressures and was second in pass rush win rate last season (24%). He's also finished in the top 10 in pass rush win rate among edge rushers in all four years he's been with the Bengals. Want great stories delivered right to your inbox?
