6 ugly dishes in Dubai that actually taste amazing
They might not be aesthetic enough for an Insta post, but these dishes weren't designed to be prim and proper.
If you like this: 43 of Dubai's best burgers to try in 2025
Instead, they're served up to be devoured, with flavours you won't forget easily.
So if you're in the mood to eat messy, make one of these ugly dishes your next stop.
Dampa Seafood Grill
Dampa is a local favourite (Credit: Dampa Food Grill)
Dish: Cajun Dump a Seafeast
There's no prizes for presentation here. The Time Out Dubai Restaurant Award 2025 winner for Best Budget restaurant simply dumps a bucket of fresh catches onto the table, smothered in the venue's signature Cajun sauce.
You'll need to get your hands dirty, but it's more than worth it when you bite into a juicy shrimp. For Dhs176, this feasts feeds around two to three people and comes with rice and a drink.
Open daily noon-11.30pm. Deira, @dampaseafoodgrill (04 299 0884).
Maisan 15
Dish: Shawarma pizza
We know what you're thinking, shawarma and pizza are great enough on their own, they don't need a combination. But that's where you're sadly mistaken.
Over at Maisan 15, its fusion dish might seem a little overwhelming, packed with chicken and smothered in garlic ranch, but one bite will convince you otherwise.
Open daily 8am-11pm. Al Barsha, @maisan15 (04 244 7291).
Morellis Gelato
Dish: Spaghetti ice cream
Forget your cone, you can now get your ice cream fix in the form of spaghetti. It might look a little odd as your flavour of choice is pressed out into thin noodles, but it tastes just as good.
Finish up with your favourite sauce and enjoy that fresh gelato.
Open Mon-Thu 10am-1am, Fri-Sun 10am-1am. Dubai Mall, Downtown Dubai, morellisgelato.com (04 564 2195).
NOMAD
Dish: Volcano fries
This cheesy tower is in a league of its own, and if you're taking it on, we'd recommend sharing between two to three people.
It's not hard to see why this is one of the Umm Suqeim restaurant's best sellers — the mounds of crispy fries are coated in cheese and a tangy sauce, before being mixed with crispy chicken pieces and hot Cheetos.
Once you take a forkful, this volcano will really erupt, as fries spill out all over the plate (yum).
Open daily 4pm-2am. Umm Suqeim, @nomad.uae (058 954 1613).
Tacos Los Hermanos
Dish: Chips Oman birria
Tacos Los Hermanos at Neighbourhood Food Hall is serving up birria with Chips Oman, and it's all stuffed into the bottom of a crisp packet. Chef Jose packs it with cheese, spicy salsas, chipotle mayo, veggies, Oman Chips and tender birria beef, which might look a little unusual, but tastes incredible.
You can also bring your own chips if you want to customise it. Plus, you get to eat it out of the bag which is pretty cool too.
Open Sun-Thu noon-10.30pm, Fri-Sat noon-11.30pm. Neighbourhood Food Hall, Motor City, neighbourhoodfoodhall.com
Ugly Burger
(Credit: Ugly Burger)
Dish: Big Poppa Burger
This place was literally founded on the idea of good messy food that doesn't need to look cute to impress.
All about the flavour, if you're in the mood for a packed patty then try out the big poppa, crammed with cheese, onion rings, barbecue sauce and garlic mayo. It might ooze out everywhere, but that's the whole point, right?
Open Sun-Thu 10am-10pm, Fri-Sat 10am-11pm. Nakheel Mall, Palm Jumeirah, nakheelmall.ae (058 110 8432).

Goodbye Wellies - This Is The Summer Boots Trend You'll Actually Want To Wear
We leave the house in the morning to sun shining in our eyes, hop off the train and it's raining (yes, we forgot our umbrella, as usual) and as we head to lunch we're sweating, while dodging puddles. Make it make sense. With all seasons in one day lately, navigating what to actually wear has become a full time job in itself. And while we're only a few weeks into official summer, there's no way we'll be letting a spot of rain – or a downpour – mess with our warm-weather outfits we've been looking forward to wearing since the start of the year. You know, the cotton boho blouses, polka dot dresses or culotte shorts we can't stop seeing all over our Insta feeds. The good news is, we don't have to retire our summer looks early – even with some rainy days on the cards – and it's all thanks to the fashion insiders confirming it's boots season already. Practicing 'the wrong shoe theory' TikTok trend (basically, when you pair an unlikely shoe with your outfit – think heels with sporty shorts) boots with summer looks are the latest pairing being worn by so many stylish women, and it just so happens to be the answer to what to wear when it's hot, but rainy. With one boot style proving to be the most popular (read: practical) right now, we want to show you how flat knee-high boots are going to be the saviour to styling your summer wares, even when the weather isn't delivering the summer vibes. Sofia Boman tries out the sheer blouse trend with an A-line cargo skirt, and we love the high/low look of this combo. While it could easily be styled with mesh ballet flats or a red flip flop, adding the Western style knee-high boot gives it a whole new unexpected feel. Plus, you won't be getting your legs wet if the heavens open. Acne Studios, Burberry and Bottega Veneta all put '90s grunge plaid back on the runways for spring/summer 2025, and content creator Trishna Goklani has shown a wearable way to style it. No doubt you'll want to copy and paste this outfit formula, so simply add a white vest to a floaty checked skirt, belt at the waist and finish a pair of flat knee-high boots (psst, Trishna told us these are a very good vintage Prada find on Vinted). A 'just in case' jumper around your shoulders is also a wise idea in case temperatures drop throughout the day, too. Polo tops, jumpers and dresses have been key for a while now, and we appreciate how fashion influencer Amaka Hamelijnck has given her grey polo dress an in-betweeny weather spin by adding a trench coat, summer sunnies and yes, you guessed it, a pair of flat knee high boots. Because while we'll always appreciate a heeled iteration, we'll be opting for the more functional flats so we're not slipping around during summer showers. Those striped linen shorts you bought at the start of summer and have been saving for holiday, don't. Instead, make like Chloe Butler and weather-proof them by adding a pair of riding boots (a key style for the upcoming autumn/winter season) along with a lightweight knit that you could also tie round your waist. Add this year's standout accessory everyone is wearing – the bandana– and you get a cool country girl look we'll be relying on heavily from here on out. Fashion insider and athlete Marilyn Nwawulor-Kazemaks is one to follow for everyday outfit inspo that'll make you want to up your game. Here, she's influenced us all into wanting to try out a pleated skirt (again, part of that '90s grunge revival we're seeing) and we'll be doing so by swapping our usual fitted T-shirt for a baggy style and completing the ensemble with chunky knee-high boots. Ready to try adding knee-high flat boots to all your favourite summer outfits? While some sites – including Cos, Zara and Mango – still don't have new season styles online, yet, we've found the brands that are getting ahead with these fresh pairs coming in from the likes of Arket and Reformation. Along with a completely waterproof style by Moncler and the Ganni boots that we're sure will be viral within a matter of weeks. You. Are. Welcome. 1. Arket, Leather Riding Boots The thick tread rubber sole on this Arket pair is perfect for unpredictable weather days. Invest in a good leather protector and these glossy riding boots will see you through so many seasons. 2. Reformation, Francesca Moto Boots Buckled boots were big news last year, and they're sticking around for autumn/winter 2025/26. Reformation's Francesca iteration may have a slight heel, but the chunky sole and loose-fit around the leg will still keep them super comfy. 3. Asos, Wide Fit Celeste Flat Western Knee High Boots Price: $55 According to Asos, there's been a 178% rise in search for all things #cowboycore (including Western boots) this month. Whether you wear them to a festival or for a rainy day with a cotton dress and jacket, you'll end up styling them so many ways. 4. Ganni, Studs Knee-High Boots Fresh in from Ganni, we have no doubt these will be the boots every fashion insider will be wearing from now, through to next season. Add to a Broderie anglaise mini skirt and vest look for summer and with an oversized trench and denim shorts come autumn. 5. Massimo Dutti, Leather Riding Boots How chic are these? Love the glossy finish and the gold detailing – riding boots will elevate even the simplest of outfits this summer, and we're so here for it. We predict these will sell fast (like all key Massimo buys) so be quick to get them. 6. Khaite, Sybil Glossed Leather Knee High Boots Khaite boots will always be an investment, but when opting for a black pair of knee-high boots you can guarantee you'll get the wear out of them – way beyond the season, and even year you buy them in. Again, make sure to protect these with a good leather spray but this timeless pair will serve you well. 7. & Other Stories, Biker Boots If knee-high boots aren't for you, you'll want to embrace the new cropped pairs coming through. This brown leather style with silver hardware & Other Stories is also a very chic alternative to classic black. 8. Moncler, Kickstream High Rain Boots If you want to bring out the big guns and be fully prepared for all forecasts, a knee-high rain boot is the answer. This Moncler style made from a waterproof material also has a drawstring lining so no water will be getting down to your socks! But for supermum Zoe Sullivan, it's an epic challenge. Sign up for Scottish Sun newsletter Sign up 2 It's tricky for Zoe to cook for such a large family 2 The Cajun pasta is an instant hit Zoe, 46, and husband Ben, 50, have one of Scotland's biggest families with 12 children. The pair are parents to Elizabeth, 20, Olivia, 18, Noah, 15, Evangeline, 13, Tobias, 12, Agnes, seven, Joseph, six, Flo, three, and two sets of twins, Charlotte and Isabelle, 17, and Leah and Erin, nine. They have their own YouTube channel and in an episode this week Zoe was cooking up one of her family favourites, a viral recipe for Cajun chicken pasta. It only has seven core ingredients, takes 25 minutes to cook and costs less than £2 per portion - ideal for such a big brood. The vlog post reads: "It's perfect for busy parents, large families, or anyone looking for easy, tasty dinner ideas that kids and adults will love." Zoe was making the meal for four people in the afternoon and then another eight people later, for 12 of her 14-strong family. For her dozen, she cubes 12 chicken breasts and puts them in a bowl with 12 tablespoons of Cajun spice, and some oil to coat. She then fries the chicken in a pan until it's browned then adds around six garlic gloves - or six teaspoons of lazy garlic, six tablespoons of garlic puree and another six tablespoons of Cajun spice. Then Zoe adds 900ml of veg stock and 1,200ml of double cream to the chicken mix and cooks until the meat is cooked and the sauce thickens. Zoe then mixes the chicken mix and pasta together to complete the simple, family meal. The Moray mum said: "It's super yummy, it's really nice. It's creamy Cajun chicken pasta - try it for sure." I am a mum of 12, our life is crazy but I would have another baby tomorrow Zoe suggests leaving out a bit of spice if your kids don't like their food with too much kick and adding a bit of fresh parsley to finish off. One follower said: "It looks lovely I bet it tasted delicious, I shall be trying it myself." And another said: "The Cajun chicken looks really good, I'm watching this in the evening and it's making me hungry."

The renowned extreme sportsman then crashed into a hotel swimming pool and was killed immediately. A worker was also taken hospital with neck injuries after being struck in the accident. And fans hailed Baumgartner on social media following the sad news of his death. Eerily, his own final moments online saw him prepare for what turned out to be his fatal last flight. In one post on Instagram, Baumgartner uploaded a video showing him working on the paraglider. The ace dug into his toolbox to make several adjustments to the motor at the back of the glider. While in another photo, posted on his Instagram story, Baumgartner revealed the blustery conditions on the day, declaring: 'Too much wind.' His tragic death came 13 years after soaring 24 miles into the air using a helium balloon. Reflecting on his feat years later, Baumgartner said: 'I wanted to be the first human outside of an aircraft breaking the sound barrier. 'It's very difficult to a perfect exit, do not over-rotate, there's no air to use to slow down. 'First 25 seconds it looked like everything's under control. Then after 34 seconds I hit Mach 1 and broke the speed of sound. That was our goal. 'I was mentally prepared to spin. I started, it got faster. There was no protocol. Then it really ramped up. It wasn't about breaking records any more, it was about survival. '(In the end) I was happy. Even the landing was perfect.'
