Man loses over RM300,000 to online investment scam
Kedah Commercial Crime Investigation Department chief, Superintendent Loi Yew Lik said the 44-year-old man lodged a police report at 1.04pm Monday after realising he was a victim of an investment scam.
"On May 11, the complainant had come across a Facebook advertisement offering an investment opportunity and later contacted several individuals via WhatsApp.
"The suspects promised daily returns of 10 per cent, and from May 14 to June 17, the victim transferred a total of RM302,100," he said in a statement today.
According to Loi, the complainant made 18 transactions to three different accounts but became suspicious and realised he had been scammed when the suspects requested additional funds for him to withdraw both the promised returns and his capital.
"The public is advised to verify with the police before making any suspicious transactions. Checks can also be done via the Semak Mule application, the JSJK PDRM Facebook page, or by contacting the National Scam Response Centre (NSRC) at 997," he said. - BERNAMA

Lorry driver killed in predawn crash on NSE
MUAR: A 46-year-old lorry driver was killed in a predawn crash involving two heavy vehicles at Km144 of the North-South Expressway (southbound) early this morning. Initial police findings suggest the lorry had abruptly switched from the left to the right lane, leading a Hino lorry travelling in the same direction from Penang to Johor Baru to crash into its rear. Beware of fake TikTok accounts using Saifuddin Nasution's name
PUTRAJAYA: The public has been urged to stay vigilant against fake TikTok accounts impersonating Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail. These fraudulent accounts falsely claim to offer financial aid through WhatsApp links, tricking victims into making advance payments. The Home Minister's Office confirmed reports have been lodged with the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and TikTok. Three accounts—Saifuddin_Nasution0, Saifuddin_Nasution1, and Saifuddin_Nasution12—have already been blocked. However, authorities warn that more fake accounts may emerge. 'We urge the public to always verify information before taking action,' the office stated. The minister's official TikTok account, saifuddin_nasution, is the only legitimate source. The office stressed that Saifuddin Nasution would never request payments for assistance. Legal action will be pursued against scammers. Fake TikTok accounts impersonating home minister detected
KUALA LUMPUR: Several TikTok accounts impersonating Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Ismail Nasution have been detected, allegedly with the intent to deceive the public. The Home Ministry's office in a statement today said the fake accounts claimed Saifuddin is offering financial assistance through a WhatsApp link provided in the biography section of the respective TikTok pages. "The office of the Home Minister wishes to inform the public that several fake TikTok accounts have misused the name and image of the minister in an attempt to deceive the public. "The accounts also falsely claimed that Saifuddin is offering financial assistance through a WhatsApp link posted in the bio section and is a scam aimed at tricking the public into making advance payments. "The minister's official TikTok account also uses his full name with the username SAIFUDDIN_NASUTION and can be found at the link: @saifuddin_nasution," the statement read. The office also said so far, three fake TikTok accounts have been identified and that reports have been lodged with the police and platform provider. "So far, three fake accounts have been blocked by TikTok, namely Saifuddin_Nasution0; Saifuddin_Nasution1; and Saifuddin_Nasution12. "We, however, do not rule out the possibility of more fake accounts being created in the future. "As such, the public has been advised to remain vigilant and to always verify the authenticity of any information before taking any action."
