Months-old footage shows flooding in Florida, not Thailand after heavy rain
Superimposed Burmese-language text on the video -- which shows partially submerged houses and buildings in an area inundated with water -- reads, "Flooding in Thailand. Those who are close to the sea, please be careful".
The video circulated online days after Thai media reported that a combination of heavy rain and slow water drainage had flooded parts of Bangkok (archived here and here).
The footage was also shared in similar Burmese posts on Facebook, Instagram and TikTok.
But the clip is old and was not filmed in Bangkok.
A reverse image search on Google using keyframes from the falsely shared video led to an identical clip published on Instagram on October 9, 2024 (archived link).
Its caption reads: "Fort Myers Beach, halfway down Estero island @ 5:30pm on Oct 9. Milton was about double the flooding from Helene for FMB."
Category 3 storm Hurricane Milton made landfall on Florida's Gulf Coast on October 9, 2024, pounding communities still reeling from the effects of Hurricane Helene two weeks earlier.
At least 16 people died as Milton sent tornadoes spinning across Florida and left millions of buildings without power (archived link).
The video matches Google Street View imagery of Fort Myers Beach (archived link).

Residents of a major Australian city have been left stunned after a deer was filmed sprinting across busy traffic, as experts warn of an explosion in the feral species. In the video, uploaded to Facebook, a deer leaps out from the medium strip and in front of two cars on Ginninderra Dr in Canberra on Tuesday. 'That is a cost that's showing up on people's car insurance bill because they (deer) are increasingly turning up on roads, on train lines, and causing accidents.' Mr Gough said as deer numbers grew, the interactions between deer and drivers increased, which is a 'massive problem in terms of people's safety'. Earlier this month, pictures of a deer on train tracks near a station in Sydney's south were uploaded to Instagram, marking further encroachment by the species. The NSW Invasive Species Management Review found that more than 212 deer had been struck by trains in the northern Illawarra region alone since 2010-11. A further 107 motor vehicle incidents involving deer were also reported in the Wollongong and Lake Illawarra area from 2005-17, one being fatal. Mr Gough said the booming deer population had been met in NSW by decades of governmental delay and a lack of serious legislative action. A NSW Bill to expand hunting rights for so-called 'conservation hunters' will face a public inquiry later this year after pushback from the council and activists. The council has claimed the Bill, which will ease access to state forests for hunting, would do little to stem populations of feral animals, such as deer and pigs. Instead, Mr Gough said South Australia was 'leading the nation' in managing deer amid the encroachment of deer on the verdant Adelaide Hills area. 'They've got a 10-year plan to eradicate deer completely from the state,' Mr Gough said. 'That has been the consequence of some real leadership from the government, from across politics, to get on top of the issue.' For Canberrans unaccustomed to wild deer in city, the sight of the animal on Tuesday sparked mixed emotions, with some calling them 'majestic' and others for it to be shot. 'They're majestic until they write off your car and almost kill you in the process,' one Facebook user said.

Recent Bellefonte Area High School graduate seriously injured in motorcycle crash
A recent Bellefonte Area High School alumnus was seriously injured Sunday in a crash, prompting donations from the community to support his family during his recovery. The 19-year-old was riding a Honda motorcycle about 3 p.m. Sunday when he was hit by a driver at the intersection of Weaver Hill Road and Quartz Driver, Spring Township police Chief Adam Salyards said Tuesday. The teen, who Salyards did not name, was ejected and landed in a nearby field. Salyards said he did not immediately know if the motorcyclist was wearing protective equipment. He was flown by a medical helicopter from Lambert Hall to a regional trauma center. The driver — a woman from Spring Township — was not injured. No drugs or alcohol are suspected to be a factor in the crash. Salyards did not rule out speeding, but said the crash remains under investigation. No charges have been filed as of Tuesday. Pleasant Gap Fire Department and EMS assisted, as well as the Undine Fire Co. The teen competed in track and field while at the high school, according to a Facebook post from the high school's football team. Track and field coach Seth Miller collected gift card donations for the family Monday.
