England's top tourist experience is ‘perfect' — animal lovers want to live there
And it's not just those flying in from abroad who explore the likes of Cornwall's beaches or the Liverpool's nightlife – it seems we love being tourists at home, with Brits taking 906 million day trips and 90 million overnight trips in England last year.
So, if you're looking for some staycation inspo, look no further: Visit England have announced the winners of their Awards for Excellence, which recognise the best tourism businesses across the country.
And when it came to the best experience that the country has to offer, it was an unexpected visit to a farm that claimed the top spot.
Head north to Yorkshire, and book yourself onto Dumble Farm's Cow Cuddling & Highland Cow Experience.
Fuel your wanderlust with our curated newsletter of travel deals, guides and inspiration. Sign up here.
Nestled in Arram, near to Beverley in East Yorkshire, Dumble is a working farm with a focus on conservation and sustainability.
At the heart of their work is caring for their 65 plus strong herd of Highland cows. As well as educating visitors about this endangered species, Dumble Farm say spending time with the cows has a calming effect and a positive impact on general well-being.
And that's where cuddling comes in. Visitors on the three and a half hour tour get up close and personal with the 'affectionate and gentle' animals.
There's a meeting with the adorable young cows, which guests can groom and get to know. Then it's onto the cuddle cows who are 'nearly always lying down' meaning visitors can lie back and relax with the animals.
Then there's a safari around the farm, during which there's an opportunity to feed Highland cows from a trailer, before heading back for tea and cakes.
The £95 price tag goes towards supporting the farm's conservation work. More Trending
And, tourists have certainly not been disappointed after booking onto the tour, calling it the 'best day ever'.
'I would live here if I could,' wrote a TripAdvisor reviewer who did the tour in April. While another said: 'Don't think about it, do it'. And a third called it 'moo-sively impressive'.
If you want to book onto the tour, you'll need to plan ahead.
Tickets are snapped up fast, with a release dropping a month in advance. Cow cuddling stops for the summer though, so you'll have to wait until autumn before you can have start snuggling.
Metro's Lifestyle Reporter, Courtney Pochin, tried cow cuddling at Hopefield Animal Sanctuary in Brentwood.
As well as dairy cows, Hopefield is home to donkeys, sheep, pigs, horses, Shetland ponies, cats, rabbits, alpacas, reindeer, a boa constrictor, parrots, and a fox. There are also several exotic animals such as tanukis and skunks.
'As I entered the field, two Friesian cows, Jude and Devon ambled over. I know it sounds silly, but as most of the viral cow cuddling videos I'd seen online had featured much smaller calves, when these two gentle giants plodded over, my jaw dropped.
'There was no way I was ever going to be able to get my arms around them for a proper cuddle, although a taller (and braver) person might have been able to do so.
'Despite their somewhat intimidating size, however, Jude and Devon were just like big dogs. They licked my hand, allowed me to scratch their necks and backs, and were playful when it came to getting treats.
'A fun fact I discovered about cows is that they drool rather a lot, so feeding them by hand gets pretty messy. I just about managed to escape without getting slobber in my hair (my clothes weren't quite as fortunate).
'While suffice to say it wasn't quite the therapeutic experience TikTok had sold me on, there's no denying that it was a great activity for my general wellbeing. It was something different, it was fun, and I felt like Jude and I had become pals by the end. I left with a big smile on my face.'

UK botanic garden named 'most beautiful in Europe' with over 50,000 plants
Europe's most beautiful botanic gardens have been revealed and one breathtaking attraction in the UK has beaten out rivals thanks to its incredible array of plants Brits looking to get inspired for their next days out may want to consider a trip to London, which has been revealed as the home of 'Europe's most beautiful botanic garden'. The Royal Botanic Gardens in Kew have topped a new list in a study looking at visitor reviews, boasting a perfect score from holidaymakers looking for staycation ideas. Kew is already on most green thumbed Brits' bucket lists. Its new ranking comes after one seaside walk was named the best wildflower trail in the UK. That Kew Gardens is so popular is no surprise. After all, the UNESCO World Heritage Site boasts over 50,000 living plants, not to mention its iconic Victorian glasshouse that's home to 10 climate zones (keep an eye out for the carnivorous plants to be found in the tropical section!). Kew Gardens is already a firm favourite with visitors and it often features on round-ups of 'must-visit' destinations in London. "Completely exceeded our expectations," one happy holidaymaker wrote in a TripAdvisor review. "I can't understand anyone giving this place a low score at all. I like plants, but would not consider myself a big enthusiast, yet found Kew really interesting - a fabulous day out. "The lily building and the Prince of Wales buildings were particularly memorable. Parking was cheap and easy. We took a picnic so can't give any insight regarding food/drink options I'm afraid. We had our two teenage sons with us, who you might not think would enjoy plants/gardens, but it was honestly one of the most enjoyable days out we have had!" The attraction hosts a wide array of events throughout the year too whether that's themed exhibitions, treasure trails for kids, Halloween themed nights or its annual Christmas lights trail. Meanwhile its newly-opened 'Carbon Garden' has been drawing in crowds, with the aim of showcasing the "critical role carbon plays in sustaining life on Earth, communicating the scale of the climate crisis, and sharing the extraordinary potential of the natural world to combat it". If you're already tempted to have a look, then its new crown as Europe's most beautiful botanic garden might help tip the scales in favour of a visit. To determine the best botanic gardens, researchers at Saga Holidays looked at a variety of factors including how often these spots were described as 'beautiful' or 'peaceful', to analyse the 'average sentiment of reviews'. Each garden was given a Weighted Rank by combining its average review sentiment and keyword score equally - and Kew Gardens came top with a perfect score of 100 out of 100. The team behind the study explained: "Crowned Europe's most gorgeous garden, Kew Gardens has almost 85,000 mentions of beauty in its reviews and a perfect weighted rank score of 100, reflecting its popularity and high sentiment among visitors. Home to the world's largest and most diverse collections of plants and fungi, this UNESCO World Heritage Site has over 50,000 different living plants and more than 7 million preserved specimens."

A further five trains - out of a total of 18 heading from Paris to London - have been cancelled. Six others bound for London from France have been pushed back. A power outage in Moussy - 30 miles north of Paris - occurred at 8.30 this morning, triggering the slew of delays. Since the problem is largely affecting French services, holidaymakers heading to Brussels or Amsterdam from London have largely been unaffected by the cancellations. The train operator took to X to confirm which services have been cancelled. A spokesperson for Eurostar said that the following services from London to Paris will not be running: #ES9022, 11.31 #ES9028, 13.31 #ES9044, 17.31 #ES9050, 19.01 Similarly, the following services from Paris to London will not be running: #ES9025, 11:37 #ES9039, 15:15 #ES9051, 18:10 #ES9055, 19:11 The spokesperson added: "We are very sorry for the inconvenience caused today." Passengers affected by the huge delays can exchange their tickets free of charge or request full refunds. Pictures taken at St Pancras show hundreds of Brits huddled around information screens, waiting for updates on when their train is going to depart. Some have taken to social media to vent their frustrations at the incident. One wrote: "How is it that the one day I choose to take the Eurostar they choose to cut power to the high speed rail in Northern France? "What are the odds?" However, according to lucky holidaymakers, regularly services are slowly being restored for some passengers. One person posted: "Thanks Eurostar for working through the track problems affecting all trains headed west from Paris Nord today. "Our train was late, but still running today. BARCELONA might boast easy flights, buzzing bars, and amazing food worth jumping on a plane for. But after a weekend of cava and chaos, I like to bolt on a few chilled-out days somewhere a bit calmer and just over an hour's drive away from the bustling city. 7 The stunning holiday destination is a much quieter alternative to Barcelona Credit: Lee Bell 7 Expect fewer crowds and barely any Brits Credit: Lee Bell Just along the coast is the perfect escape: Tossa de Mar - a charming beach town that feels worlds away from Barcelona's busy streets.
