TikToker urges Brits to ditch Venice for voodoo village
Kieren also visited the world's biggest voodoo market, lined with the skulls of various animals, including dogs.
The traveller encountered local witch doctors, who said each skull has different properties and is often prescribed to cure illnesses.
He also faced the Temple of Pythons, a religious sanctuary where locals worship snakes instead of fearing them.
Inside a sealed room, he encountered 60-70 snakes slithering around, while priests 'casually' picked them up.
The tourist was stunned to see the 'chilled' serpents, which are not fed and instead are let out about once a week to eat chickens and mice.
Kieran, from Sidcup, Kent, said: "It was a three-month trip, which cost me around £6,000, I did it all independently, taking local transport, renting random hotels, I didn't go through an agency.
"I went to Venice a long time ago but did really like it, it was too chaotic and expensive. I've travelled so much I like to see more of the undiscovered parts of the world.
"We got a visa but it was only £25. Realistically Venice is a lot nicer but if people want something slightly different and much cheaper this is always a good option, there are no tourists, no cruise ships.
"I had a pizza there, it wasn't as good as Italy but they have lots of little bars. It would be possible to do a pub crawl. It could be a good stag do."

"Benin is quite a small country but there's a lot of interesting things there. I'd recommend it to other people. I don't think it's that easy for British people to fly there but you can go from Paris or Brussels. If you can get a flight there I'd recommend it."
Every year on January 10th the Vodoun (Voodoo) Festival is celebrated across the country and especially in the city of Ouidah, where practitioners gather to honour their spirits with sacrifices, dancing and singing.
The festival begins with the slaughter of a goat to honour the religion's spirits and is followed by dancing, singing and drinking.
Despite experiencing the 'creepiness' of the voodoo market and rituals, Kieran would recommend voodoo tourism to Brits who want to explore that part of the world.
Kieran said: "When we were there we were walking around and there was a man dressed up as a Zangbeto and people were trying to get close to him and he chased people.
"We were walking through a street and he saw us. Because we were the only white people we stood out. It was a man dressed up like a goblin, he had a thick mask on.
"I can't explain it but he was dressed up like a monster, people were running away when it came close.
"People were trying to annoy it by running towards it and eventually it would snap and start chasing you, it seemed to be like a game, everyone was chanting but I couldn't understand what they were saying.
"There is a temple there where they worship pythons, we went inside and there were hundreds of them, slithering around the floor.
"People in the temple put them around their neck and treat them like a sacred animal.
"There was a thick door, the guy opened it, and there were around 60 to 70 pythons. He said they don't hurt humans but I didn't really go close.
"He put them around our neck and they seemed pretty chilled. I didn't feel any energy and I don't believe in that but the people in the town are heavy believers.
"That region of the world in particular, I went to the world's biggest voodoo market in Toga, where you can buy every type of animal skull.
"It was a bit creepy, we were walking and there was every skull you can buy.

It's by far the cheapest place for tapas and a beer that I have ever stumbled across and the best news is, there are 350 of these bars across Spain. Cheap as frites 100 Montaditos has been dubbed the 'Spanish Wetherspoons' for its affordable prices, decent food and community vibe. However, most Brits would walk right past without even knowing they are missing out on a cheap-as-patatas-fritas feed. A 'montadito' is a classic tapas dish in Spain, which is essentially a mini baguette sandwich. They are often served alongside beer or wine in tapas bars around Spain and make for a very tasty lunch or dinner. 100 Montaditos originated as a small cafe in Seville, famous for its small plates of sandwiches, but has now expanded across Spain and the Spanish islands because it is so popular. With a limited holiday budget, I headed to the 100 Montaditos in Majorca, which is on the Spanish Plaza in Palma. The location could not be more central, it's right opposite the Cathedral and has a patio with outdoor seating. The bar looks small from the outside, but stepping inside, there is a huge kitchen and dining room, so it's handy if you need an air-con break from the hot weather too. It's a hot day, so I order a pint, which in Spain comes in a frosted pitcher. I went to the UK's biggest Wetherspoons with rooftop bar overlooking the beach These are known as 'turbo-sized' and at 300ml, are slightly smaller than our UK pints, but plenty for me at lunchtime. Drinking local Spanish beer, Cruzcampo, meant the refreshment cost me only €1.50 (£1.30). Considering Palma in Majorca isn't known for being a cheap holiday destination, I couldn't believe my luck. A glass of wine here is the same price, and you can get a Vodka and Coke for £2.70. I couldn't believe my eyes when the bartender gave me a cone of crisps too. You get these free of charge when you order a drink. With prices in Spain on the rise, Brits have been complaining that cheap holidays on the continent are not as budget-friendly as they used to be. But this place is just like a British 'Spoons. Everyone inside was chatty and friendly - as much as they could be with the language barrier. It's very laid back and you can tell a lot of locals have been frequenting the place for years. Of course, being named after the famous sandwiches, 100 Montadidos has a good menu of food too, and it's just as affordable as the beer. 5 You get a cone of crisps for free with your beer in the Spanish 'spoons Credit: HELEN WRIGHT 5 There is also indoor seating, if you want to take advantage of the air conditioning Credit: HELEN WRIGHT There are 19 different 'classic' sandwiches, ranging from chorizo and cheese to bacon butties, and they are only €1 each. The slightly more 'fancy' options have Gran Reserva ham and smoked salmon, but even they only cost €1.50 (£1.30). Every day they have a 'EURO MANIA' deal, which is a large version of the sandwich of the day for only €1 (86p) - an absolute bargain! One of these is more than enough for me at lunch, but even if I was feeling peckish, ordering two would hardly break the bank. I can't believe you can eat for so cheap in the middle of Palma. If you don't fancy sandwiches, there are nachos, Spanish omelette and calamari, all for only €2 (£1.73) each. A bowl of chips is €1 (86p). Sarah from Cardiff in Wales, who was in 100 Montadidos with her friends before a night out, said she was stunned by the prices. 'It's cheaper than Wetherspoons in Cardiff!' she said. 'We'll probably come back for chips after our night out if it's still open.' Before they left, I joined them for a celebratory shot of tequila. At only €2 (£1.73) each, I better not stay too long or I'd be totally sloshed for the cost of one pint in London. The atmosphere is not as authentic as in some of the more traditional tavernas and bars in Mallorca, but it can't be beaten on price. Especially for a few shots ahead of a night out like Sarah and her mates. The only disappointment was that they don't have the classic Thursday curry club but the cheeky barman said maybe they might do Paella instead one day!

American in UK visits impressive service station that's 'like a theme park'
An American woman has said she's finally come to understand why Brits have a favourite service station after visiting a Welcome Break in the UK she compared to a theme park UK service stations are typically quite basic, offering a couple of eateries, a shop and toilets for travellers in need of a rest on the motorway. However, one Welcome Break UK services is drawing visitors from far and wide. An American woman was left astounded after her recent visit at the Yorkshire service station, describing it as "exquisite". Situated of the M1J33 near Rotherham, the service station boasts an array of popular chains such as Starbucks, Pret A Manger, Burger King, Chopstix, The Good Breakfast, KFC, Waitrose, and WHSmith. Not only does it offer top-notch facilities and a variety of dining options, but the service area - which opened its doors in January this year - also provides 458 parking spaces for various types of vehicles. Plus, it has resulted in the creation of around 230 new jobs. Iniki, an American woman who relocated from Florida - a state known for its large 'petrol stations' - hailed the Rotherham Welcome Break as "the nicest UK service station." In a recent TikTok post, Iniki said: "I think I finally understand when Brits say they have a favourite service station because this service station was exquisite. This is a brand new Welcome Break in Rotherham and I was thoroughly impressed." The woman, who is married to a British man, likened it to "kind of looks like a little town" and said it reminded her of Universal Studios. She described her experience as akin to "a walk in the park." The American was also impressed by the variety of dining choices, gaming section and children's play area. "So yeah, I never understood the hype about service stations until now," she added. One person remarked: "As someone who was born in Rotherham, it's strange hearing an American say it haha. Driven past this service station many times but never been in. Looks nice!". One declared it's "probably the best thing" in Rotherham. "Nicest place in Rotherham," chimed in another. "Wow, it's really nice," noted someone else. A further user commented: "I love a good service station. It's kind of like you're going on holiday, slight airport vibes without the planes or security."
