2025 World Aquatics: USA breaks mixed 4x100m freestyle world record
The US team took gold in Singapore in 3min 18.48sec, beating Australia's previous leading time of 3:18.83 set in 2023.
The 'neutral athletes' team from Russia finished second in 3:19.68, with France third in 3:21.35.
The American team of Jack Alexy, Patrick Sammon, Kate Douglass and Torri Huske took control from the start and from then on their battle was against the clock.
'We all came out tonight wanting to get that win for Team USA and with the world record, we all knew in the back of our mind we had that ability,' said Douglass.
'I'm really happy with how it turned out.'
The US topped the medal table at the start of the day and their latest success consolidated their lead heading into the final day of the championships.
'It's great to be racing with my team-mates,' said Alexy.

The General Motors-backed team have taken staff already from rival outfits, their European headquarters at Silverstone being close to other factories, and are also competing for sponsorship. Brown, whose team are dominating this year's championship after winning the 2024 constructors' title, saw no reason to fear a dilution of resources, however. "I think on employees they are definitely going to take a lot more than they give, which is fine," he said at last weekend's Hungarian Grand Prix. "My general view is if someone wants to go work for a rival team then shame on me. "For sponsors, I think they'll bring more new to the table than take." Brown expected Cadillac also to bring more competition eventually, although they faced a tough challenge as newcomers, and more fans to a series that now has three U.S. rounds and a growing audience in America. "Will we get a better U.S. TV deal, more American presence? I think their sponsors and Cadillac will spend money in the sport, the teams get a percentage of that so I see them as a value add to the sport," he added. "I'm not worried about maybe some of the short term-ness of they are going to take an employee here or there or poach a sponsor here or there. I think the contribution will be bigger than that." Cadillac secured approval of their bid in March, after a 764-day entry process and initial opposition from Formula One and the other 10 teams wary of a potential reduction in the share of revenues. The team are also backed by TWG Global, whose CEO Mark Walter has an estimated net worth of $12.5 billion, according to the Bloomberg Billionaires Index. The first new team since U.S.-owned Haas debuted in 2016 said in July they were already two thirds of the way towards a targeted headcount of 600 by next season and no longer even the smallest outfit. Paris Seine swimming draws 35,000 despite rainy July
THREE Seine swimming sites in Paris have attracted more than 35,000 visitors since opening in early July, despite frequent summer rainfall, city officials confirmed. The historic return of public swimming to the river marks the first time in over a century that Parisians and tourists have been able to bathe in the Seine following a massive cleanup effort. Wet weather forced temporary closures for 13 days in July, including one site near the Eiffel Tower. 'We knew that the weather would be a variable factor,' said city official Pierre Rabadan. 'But we are extremely satisfied.' The 19th-century sewage system often overflows during heavy rain, sending wastewater into the Seine. However, a new retention basin has successfully prevented overflow this summer. Despite initial delays, enthusiasm remains high, with a record 5,700 swimmers on July 13. The initiative stems from Paris' Olympic legacy, where triathletes and open-water swimmers competed in the cleaned-up river. Zverev vs Khachanov in ATP Toronto semi-finals clash
ALEXANDER Zverev secured his place in the ATP Toronto Masters semi-finals with a gritty 6-7 (8/10), 6-4, 6-3 victory over defending champion Alexei Popyrin. The match, lasting over two and a half hours, saw Zverev recover from a first-set loss to dominate the latter stages. The final game was briefly disrupted by a disruptive fan, leading to a rare double-fault from Zverev before he sealed the win with a sharp volley. 'After losing the first set, I had to remind myself to stay patient,' said Zverev. 'I knew if I kept playing well, the chances would come.'
