Red Bull are building a bit of momentum – Team principal Christian Horner
Lando Norris made a late move on McLaren team-mate Piastri to clinch second and cut the Australian's championship lead to 13 points, with Verstappen 22 points adrift ahead of next weekend's Monaco Grand Prix.
Verstappen showed the pace to outgun the McLaren pair throughout the race, even after a late safety car saw his lead evaporate.
Team principal Horner was delighted that Red Bull were able to have the edge on McLaren for pace and believes it bodes well in Verstappen's bid for a fifth successive drivers' championship.
'It's been a very positive weekend and I think we're building a bit of momentum, which is important at this stage in the championship,' Horner said.
'To have the pace that we did in the race, I would say that's probably, since certainly Brazil last year – which was a wet race – the first time I can remember in a long time we've had the pace to really pull away and out-deg the McLarens.
'A second win and arguably we should have won in Jeddah.
'It's an important win for the team at this stage of the championship, it feels like we're building a little bit of momentum behind the scenes.

'It's a timely win championship wise. It keeps the pressure on and keeps us in touch.'
Talk over Verstappen's future has dogged the team throughout a tricky start to the season, where they have been off the pace of McLaren as Piastri won four of the first six races.
Horner hailed the Dutchman's focus on driving the team forward.
'All year he's been working hard behind the scenes. He's been very supportive in the team,' Horner said.
'There's always a lot of noise outside of our team but never inside and everybody is just focused on the job.
'Everybody is leaving Imola upbeat about the upcoming races.'
McLaren opted not to allow Norris to pass Piastri, on older tyres, at the safety-car restart to attack Verstappen.
The British driver instead had to complete a bold overtake on his team-mate with five laps remaining, with the pair close to making contact.

Horner does not believe Norris would have threatened Verstappen and says McLaren having two drivers fighting for the title inevitably brings such issues.
'I think today we had the pace to cover whatever they could throw at us,' Horner added.
'Obviously they've got two drivers who are fighting for a world championship.
'At some point, self interest will always outweigh team interest. So they did a good job to not make contact.
'It was commendable that they were allowed to race but you could see how close it got.'

"You can't look past someone like Max and the plans he has for the future. We did that, but I don't think there will be any big surprises." ORF said that while Verstappen had performance clauses, he would have needed to be outside the top three after Silverstone to trigger his contract release. Social media lit up this month after Wolff and Verstappen were reported to be on vacation at the same time and in the same area of Sardinia, but the Mercedes boss dismissed any significance in that. "If you go on holiday close to each other, it doesn't mean that you are also going to work together in Formula One," he said. "We have always got along well. We also happen to vacation in similar areas."

The country hoping to host F1's first African race for decades
Nigeria has become the latest African nation to express interest in hosting a Formula 1 Grand Prix, with former Premier League footballer Marvin Sordell leading the bid. The proposed project includes a new circuit in the capital, Abuja, alongside a karting track, hotels, and a motorsport museum. F1 has not held a race in Africa since 1993, but South Africa, Rwanda, and Morocco have also declared their intention to bid. F1 chief executive Stefano Domenicali has been invited to visit Abuja, having previously expressed a desire to return to the continent. The current F1 calendar is at 24 races, but the Dutch Grand Prix will be removed after next year, and the Belgian Grand Prix will become biennial from 2028, potentially creating space for new venues.

Stamatelopoulos ready to make mark at Motherwell after injury issues
Motherwell striker Apostolos Stamatelopoulos is looking to make up for lost time after netting his first goal in seven months. The Australian bundled home Motherwell's opener against Morton on Tuesday as a 3-0 win sealed their place in Premier Sports Cup round two. Stamatelopoulos was Motherwell's big-money signing last summer when he moved from Newcastle Jets but the centre-forward tore a thigh muscle on his first start. After hitting his fifth goal of the season against Rangers on December 29, he suffered a calf injury that sidelined him until March – only for a training-ground shot to shatter his wrist before he could make his comeback. 'It's definitely been tough,' said the 26-year-old, who became a father immediately before moving to Scotland. 'I mean, the whole of last season, I would have said, was pretty tough. There was a little bit of run of games where I thought, okay, I'm starting to feel like myself again. And then obviously I got injured again. 'It's the first time that's happened in my career so it's taken a bit of adjusting to get back to that. 'I've had injuries before, but I've only been max eight weeks out. I've only had two before the last season, two big ones in the six years, seven years that I've played professional football. 'So, it's definitely different from anything that I've been used to, but I feel like I'm getting there every day, slowly, slowly. 'So hopefully by the time the season comes, I'm ready to go. I mean, that was the first time I played 90, so I started cramping towards the end, but the body's getting there.' Stamatelopoulos lapped up the chance to net on the rebound from a yard out and is excited about the opportunity to play in Jens Berthel Askou's side, given the creative players that have arrived and the new manager's commitment to getting men forward. 'I mean, no one's really going to remember in six months' time how it went in,' he said of his goal. 'I've just got to live around the box. I feel like my movement was decent, could be a little bit sharper, but that's what I live for in the box. 'Once that went in, it was just like a massive side relief after so long. Getting my first one and thankfully it happened before the season started. 'There were a few times where I gambled the wrong way. And if I'd made a different run, I would have had another couple of tap-ins.
