Four Teams Represent Morocco at US Robotics Championship
Organized by FIRSt brings together young innovators from around the world to celebrate science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), this global event aims to prepare the next generation for the future.
The Moroccan teams – Novatard, Robot 11 Janvier, 3andiBlasti, and Mindcraft Senior – earned their spots through two national qualifying events. Namely, the FIRST Lego League Challenge that was held on February 1 at the UM6P campus in Benguerir, and the FIRST Tech Challenge that took place on February 15 at Ecole Nationale Supérieure d'Arts et Métiers (ENSAM) in Rabat.
These teams are accompanied by four dedicated volunteers and supported by LOOP For Science & Technology, the organization responsible for coordinating FIRST events in Morocco.
Founded in 2018, LOOP is a non-profit, non-political, and non-religious association committed to promoting STEAM—Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics – especially among children.
Through workshops, conferences, training sessions, and international collaborations, LOOP works to strengthen STEAM education and inspire young minds across the country.
Robotics have experienced significant growth in recent years, driven by advancements in education and international collaborations. In 2024, Moroccan team 'NexTech' won the World Robot Olympiad in Turkiye.
NexTech presented a project called 'Terra Genius,' a robot designed to support sustainable farming by planting seeds, managing irrigation and monitoring crops. Tags: 'Morocco in processRobotics competitionUS news

UM6P, Tanger Med Launch AI Program to Transform Industrial Operations
Marrakech – The University Mohammed VI Polytechnique (UM6P) and Tanger Med Group signed a new partnership agreement on Tuesday, launching the 'AI Tanger Med' program. This initiative mobilizes students from the 1337 MED campus to develop artificial intelligence solutions for real industrial challenges faced by companies within the Tanger Med ecosystem. The program operates under the scientific guidance of UM6P's Artificial Intelligence Laboratory to ensure strong academic foundations while addressing practical operational needs. Students work on concrete projects involving automation, data analysis, and cybersecurity – all directly connected to port, logistics, and industrial operations. 'The terrain becomes a classroom and puts innovation at the service of operational excellence,' states the joint press release from both organizations. This approach creates a dual benefit: Tanger Med brings together its partners to formulate operational problems, while students gain an immersive, structured experience connecting their technical skills to industrial realities. The agreement builds upon a successful collaboration that began in 2021 with the establishment of the 1337 MED campus in Martil near Tangier. Today, this campus hosts nearly 400 students trained through a unique model in Morocco based on project learning, mutual assistance, and autonomy. Without traditional lectures or professors, students develop problem-solving skills through collaborative projects. This partnership propels the North African country's digital landscape forward alongside other technological initiatives. Earlier in July, the Ministry of Digital Transition held the first national conference on artificial intelligence under the theme 'An Efficient and Ethical AI Strategy Serving Our Society.' During this conference, Digital Transition Minister Amal El Fallah Seghrouchni declared that 'integrating AI into the national strategic horizon is a prerequisite for sovereignty.' She asserted that AI must be viewed 'not as a subsidiary technical solution, but as a fundamental institutional responsibility.' The government has recently launched several initiatives to position Morocco as a regional leader in AI. On July 22, a protocol agreement between government ministries, the Moroccan Investment and Export Development Agency (AMDIE), and the French group, Onepoint, established a data and AI excellence center in the Casablanca-Settat region. The project plans to recruit 500 Moroccan engineers over four years, strengthening expertise in AI, middleware, and data management. Additionally, the Ministry of Digital Transition signed partnerships with UM6P in early July to advance research in data centers and digital sovereignty as part of the 'Morocco Digital 2030' national strategy.

Saham Bank has unveiled Saham Paiements, a new subsidiary dedicated to providing cutting-edge electronic payment solutions. This initiative is a strategic response to the burgeoning demand for digital payment methods and the evolving needs of Moroccan consumers. The subsidiary is set to cater to local merchants, small businesses, and larger retail chains with multiple locations. It offers state-of-the-art payment terminals, including fixed, portable, and e-commerce devices, as well as mobile payment options leveraging smartphone NFC technology. The comprehensive service package includes installation, training, and ongoing technical support for merchants. «With Saham Paiements, our goal is straightforward: to transform electronic payment collection into a seamless, secure, and efficient experience for all merchants», declared Asmae Hajjami, General Director of Saham Bank. Mohamed El Morabit, General Director of Saham Paiements, emphasized the company's commitment to offering «robust technology, personalized service, and reliability» to facilitate merchants' digital transition. Beyond merely providing technology, the subsidiary aims to be a catalyst for digital transformation within Moroccan commerce. Saham Paiements is poised to drive the growth of electronic payments in a market projected to exceed 100 million transactions annually in proximity commerce.

Revolut names first executive in Morocco as it prepares to enter the market
A few months after showing interest in the Moroccan market, the British digital banking powerhouse Revolut is intensifying its efforts. The fintech behemoth, which now claims a global user base of 60 million, has appointed its inaugural executive to lead its operations in Morocco. This pivotal role has been entrusted to Amine Berrada, the former operations director for Uber in Southern and Eastern Europe. He has been tasked with steering Revolut's strategic direction and growth in Morocco. «Revolut is on a mission to build the world's first truly global financial superapp and I'm thrilled to contribute to launching and scaling its presence in Morocco. I'm especially proud to be doing this for my home country, helping bring cutting-edge financial services to millions of Moroccans», he shared on LinkedIn. This development corroborates information disclosed by Yabiladi last April, which revealed Revolut's plans for a phased entry into Morocco, starting as a payment operator, with ambitions to secure a full banking license within two years. Headquartered in London, the company is eyeing several countries in the MENA region, including the United Arab Emirates and Saudi Arabia. It offers a comprehensive suite of services, from multi-currency exchange to cryptocurrencies, savings, credit, and investments. Revolut continues to evaluate the Moroccan market. «We regard Morocco as an attractive market. However, we are still in the early stages», the company mentioned in a discussion with Asharq Business. With an estimated valuation of $45 billion and substantial financial backing from giants like SoftBank, the neobank aims to establish a foothold in a landscape that remains relatively untapped in terms of fully digital banking services. Moroccan authorities, for their part, are signaling a welcoming stance towards fintech, with hopes of enhancing financial inclusion.
