Skoda Auto India crosses 5 lakh car production milestone
on Friday said it has surpassed the production milestone of 5 lakh units of vehicles in India, reflecting the contribution of the country's capabilities to the company's global strategy.
Since the first Octavia rolled out of the
Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar plant
in 2001, Skoda's journey in India has evolved from selling models such as the Octavia, Laura, Superb and Kodiaq to newer, domestically developed vehicles like the Kushaq, Slavia, and the sub-four-metre SUV Kylaq.
Skoda India market
India now plays a dual role for Skoda — as a key domestic market and a strategic export hub. Components produced here are being assembled at the company's new manufacturing facility in Vietnam, which will domestically produce the Kushaq and Slavia for Southeast Asian markets.
'Reaching 500,000 cars is a proud moment and testament to our strategic vision for India,' said Andreas Dick, board member for production and logistics, Skoda Auto.
CEO and MD of Skoda Auto Volkswagen India, Piyush Arora, added that every vehicle embodies European engineering fused with Indian craftsmanship.
Around 70 per cent of the production has come from the Pune facility, with the remainder from Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar.
Skoda also recorded its highest-ever monthly sales in India in March 2025 at 7,422 units.

Skoda Vision O Concept Previews Brand's Future Estate Car's Design
Skoda has now revealed the first details of the Vision O concept car, due to premiere in Munich in early September. The study will give an outlook on the brand's future in the estate segment and marks an evolution of the Modern Solid design language. At the same time, the Vision O is reflecting Skoda's 130-year tradition and underlines the company's commitment to sustainable innovation. Klaus Zellmer, CEO of Skoda Auto, has stated, "The Skoda Vision O design study will highlight the future trajectory of estate models under the influence of new technologies, sustainability, and the deep experience of Skoda Auto in this segment. This will be one of our most significant steps in developing and evolving our design language even further for this period of transition in the automotive industry. It will position us to remain a major player in the estate segment, where Skoda Auto has been engaged since the 1920s. We are excited to present this concept to the world in early September 2025, marking a new era for Skoda Auto. Stay tuned for further information which will be released in advance of the Skoda Vision O world premiere". The brand claims that the Vision O study presents a consistent evolution of the Modern Solid design language. At first sight, the estate concept features a sleek, distinctive silhouette. The design is predominantly shaped by the light contours, the aerodynamic body, the steeply raked windscreen, and the gently sloping roof typical of Skoda estate models. The model designation "Vision O" is derived from the concept of circularity. This holistic approach to recycling and reusing components minimises the environmental impact of vehicle development and production. Furthermore, the concept is also characterized by the combination of functionality and user experience. The Vision O concept continues the manufacturer's legacy of estate cars, encompassing models such as the historical L&K 110, known for its variable body options. The most successful is the Skoda Octavia estate, first introduced in 1960. Modern versions of the Skoda Octavia estate have already surpassed the milestone of more than 3 million units produced in four generations since 1998, making it also the best-selling estate model in Skoda history. First launched in 2008 with the second-modern-generation Superb, the Skoda Superb estate is also highly popular. Other well-liked Skoda estate models include the Skoda 1101 Tudor Station Wagon (STW) with a folding rear seat, as well as the Skoda 1200/1201/1202 car family. The Skoda Vision O design concept will be presented in Munich at the beginning of September 2025.

Volkswagen Taigun facelift spotted ahead of launch
Volkswagen seems to be gearing up for a mid-life update to its Taigun SUV, as a camouflaged test mule was recently spotted on Indian roads for the first time. Launched in 2021, the Taigun has been the German automaker's answer to the highly competitive compact SUV segment in India, and this upcoming facelift aims to keep it fresh against newer rivals. Despite the heavy camouflage, a few design cues are still visible. At the front, changes are expected to include a redesigned grille and bumper, which may give the Taigun a slightly more aggressive look. The headlamps could get subtly updated, possibly featuring new LED elements. The rear, while mostly covered, hints at tweaked tail lamps—possibly with connected LED elements similar to what we see on global Volkswagen models. The Taigun could get a few feature additions and no mechanical changes. On the inside, no spy shots have surfaced yet, but it's safe to assume that the facelifted Taigun could receive minor interior updates. Volkswagen might refresh the dashboard layout, introduce new materials or colors, and possibly offer a few more connected car features to stay current with the tech-savvy competition. On the sides, there could be a new set of alloy wheels. Mechanically, the facelift is likely to remain unchanged. The Taigun is expected to continue with the current engine options—a 1.0-litre TSI and a 1.5-litre TSI turbo-petrol—paired with manual and automatic transmission choices. Both engines are known for their punchy performance, which Volkswagen is unlikely to tinker with. Several rivals in the segment, including the Kia Seltos and Hyundai Creta, have already introduced updated versions, and newer players like the Honda Elevate and Citroen C3 Aircross have added to the competition. With this update, Volkswagen is looking to maintain its relevance and possibly expand its foothold in the crowded SUV market. While the official launch timeline hasn't been confirmed, the facelifted Taigun could be revealed sometime in 2025.
