New Drops From Mizuno & Basketcase x New Balance: Peak Performance Meets Tasteful Minimalism

Hype Malaysia2 days ago

Let's get real – whenever a high-performance or even streetwear sneaker hits the scene, it's oftentimes the most eye-offensive sneaker available, thanks to its clashing and excessive use of colours.
But what if there were a shoe that delivers its promise of marrying performance and style in a tasteful way? Then you've got the latest creations from Mizuno and Basketcase x New Balance to try on for size.
Mizuno Wave Prophecy Morelia Neo
From the ongoing FIFA Club World Cup to the excitement surrounding the FIFA World Cup next year, football has been on the minds of millions of people lately.
As a result, the sport's influence is still felt in every sphere of society, including fashion, where football-inspired and -designed footwear models are still very much in demand.
Mizuno is capitalising on this popular trend by creating the Wave Prophecy Morelia Neo, which honours the 40th anniversary of the Morelia boot by fusing it with the Wave Prophecy.
The Wave Prophecy runner's instantly identifiable sole unit forms the shoe's base and, with its aerated Wave Plate arrangement, provides comfort with every stride.
Meanwhile, the brand's RunBird logo is displayed on both sides of the shoe, and the upper has the recognisable K-Leather quilted panelling.
It will be introduced using this all-black version, emphasising all of its key characteristics.
The Mizuno Wave Prophecy Morelia Neo will be available for purchase on 27th June through Mizuno for €250 (~RM1,230). It will also be available on HBX starting 1st July.
Basketcase x New Balance 204L
Basketcase and New Balance are once again kicking things into high gear with their latest shoe — the Basketcase x New Balance 204L.
Being their third attempt at creating a pair of dazzling sneakers, the Southern Californian streetwear label and the decorated footwear brand are here to rock the fashion industry.
A Friends & Family release, the new Basketcase x New Balance collection ups the ante while maintaining the pair's minimalist, monochromatic style.
Textured pony hair underlays accentuate the collaborative version of the new NB silhouette, which is covered in a variety of grey hues.
The pony hair is partially hidden by high-quality nubuck overlays that are dipped in a slightly different shade of grey.
Leather linings and contrasting EVA foam midsoles and outsoles finish off the low-profile stepper.
The sleek form factor on top of its subtle colour is enough to get some heads turning, as it fully embraces its minimalist aesthetic in a tasteful manner.
But if grey isn't your style, then worry not, as these sneakers will be receiving a coloured reinforcement in the coming months, as per the shoe's official press release.
The Basketcase x New Balance 204L has yet to receive an official price or release date, but you can stay up to date by visiting Friends & Family's official website.

Soccer-Paulinho's extra-time goal sends Palmeiras into Club World Cup quarters

Soccer Football - FIFA Club World Cup - Round of 16 - Palmeiras v Botafogo - Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. - June 28, 2025 Palmeiras' Paulinho scores their first goal REUTERS/Susana Vera PHILADELPHIA (Reuters) -Paulinho came off the bench to score a dramatic extra-time winner as Palmeiras edged out fellow Brazilians Botafogo 1-0 on Saturday to book their place in the Club World Cup quarter-finals. The match, played in Philadelphia's sweltering summer heat, remained goalless after 90 minutes of cagey and ill-tempered football. In the 100th minute, Paulinho delivered the decisive moment, cutting in from the right, dribbling past two defenders and firing a low angled shot into the bottom corner, beyond the reach of Botafogo keeper John. Botafogo pushed for an equaliser but failed to capitalise, even after Palmeiras were reduced to 10 men when Gustavo Gomez received a second yellow card for a tactical foul. Palmeiras held firm and will next face the winners of the clash between Benfica and Chelsea on Friday in Philadelphia. (Reporting by Fernando Kallas, editing by Ed Osmond)

Soccer-South American clubs still lack killer instinct, say FIFA experts

FILE PHOTO: Soccer Football - FIFA Club World Cup - Group D - Esperance de Tunis v Chelsea - Lincoln Financial Field, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, U.S. - June 24, 2025 General view of the FIFA logo before the match REUTERS/Lee Smith/File Photo MIAMI (Reuters) -The gulf between South American and European teams may not be as wide as expected at the Club World Cup, but a clear gap still exists in their efficiency in front of goal, according to FIFA technical experts. Arsene Wenger, FIFA's Chief of Global Football Development, and Juergen Klinsmann, former Germany and U.S. national team coach, were speaking at a round table on Saturday as the tournament enters its knockout phase. "At the start of the competition, many opponents seemed to fear playing against the European teams," Wenger said. "But as things progressed - especially the Brazilians - they began to realise it might not be so different after all." Flamengo and Botafogo beat European teams during the group phase of the 32-team competition, with the latter's 1-0 victory over European champions Paris St Germain standing out. Wenger said growing belief, especially among Brazilian sides, has shifted the dynamic heading into the last 16. "Maybe it's also because they've gained the confidence to do it. That shift in mindset could mean we'll see a different Brazil in the knockout stage than we saw in the group phase," he added. The Frenchman highlighted the influence of Filipe Luis, whose Flamengo side showed what Wenger called the most European tactical profile among South American sides at the tournament. "Filipe has ... played in Europe, and you can see that in the way his team approaches the game," Wenger said. GAP CLOSING Wenger and Klinsmann said South American clubs were quickly closing the gap in infrastructure and preparation. "When we visited the teams, we saw delegations of up to 100 people - support staff, analysts, advisors," Wenger said. "With squads of 23 to 35 players, these clubs are now fully professional in every department. That level of preparation allows teams to learn quickly." The key difference, however, remains in execution. "In the final third, European clubs are simply more clinical," Wenger said. Klinsmann agreed, saying the real divide lies in mentality. "Experience is also a big part of quality," he said. "When is a club like Pachuca or Monterrey (of Mexico) playing in a tournament like this?" Drawing on his time as U.S. national coach, Klinsmann stressed the importance of testing players outside their comfort zones. "That's why I always said, 'Get us into Copa America. Get us into Europe'. That's the kind of competition that develops a winning mentality," he said. "If this tournament were held again next year, Pachuca would be a different team - more confident, more refined. "But they have to be more clinical. When you're in the box, it's your head that makes the decision, not just your feet. And that's the difference." With the round of 16 underway on Saturday, analysts said the knockout stages would offer a clearer picture of how much ground South American teams have made up, tactically and psychologically. "We might see very different attitudes now," Wenger said. Flamengo face Bayern Munich on Sunday and Inter Milan meet Fluminense on Monday. (Reporting by Julien Pretot; Editing by Ed Osmond)

Soccer-Juventus defender Savona out of Club World Cup with ankle injury

Soccer Football - FIFA Club World Cup - Group G - Juventus v Manchester City - Camping World Stadium, Orlando, Florida, U.S. - June 26, 2025 Juventus' Nicolo Savona reacts REUTERS/Kai Pfaffenbach (Reuters) -Juventus defender Nicolo Savona will play no further part in the Club World Cup after he suffered an ankle injury during his side's 5-2 loss to Manchester City, the Italian club said on Friday, with the player set for over a month on the sidelines. The 22-year-old Italian had started all three group games for Juventus, but left the pitch on the hour mark after going over on his ankle in Thursday's heavy defeat and he was replaced by Federico Gatti. Juventus reported that Savona underwent diagnostic tests on his left ankle, which showed a high-grade capsular ligament injury. The player has begun his rehabilitation process and will be re-evaluated in a month's time. The loss to City meant Juventus finished second in Group G and will face Real Madrid in the last 16 on Tuesday in Miami. Gatti, who also replaced Savona in Juve's opening win over Al Ain, is most likely to slot into Igor Tudor's back three. (Reporting by Trevor Stynes, editing by Pritha Sarkar)
