Wayne Rooney not taking Macclesfield job
The former Manchester United and England star has been subject of interest from the National League North side as Robbie Savage edges towards taking the Forest Green post.
Macclesfield this week made an approach to Rooney's agent Paul Stretford but, after careful consideration, the 39-year-old is not going to be making himself available for the job.
United's all-time top scorer managed Derby, DC United and Birmingham after hanging up his boots, before taking charge of Plymouth for the first half of last season.

Rooney is understood to be focused on media opportunities for the foreseeable future and Macclesfield were not considered the right move at the moment, despite admiration for the work being done there.
The phoenix club were founded in October 2020 after Macclesfield Town were wound up, with chairman Robert Smethurst overseeing the side's rise through the leagues.
The Silkmen started life in the North West Counties Football League Premier Division in 2021/22 and last season were promoted as Northern Premier League Premier Division champions under boss Savage.

Although he will be given an extra week off before he is expected to return to pre-season training, it is now anticipated that Gyokeres won't show up. Gyokeres has also reportedly threatened to publicly voice his opinion on the situation. The Sweden international isn't pleased at suggestions that the club won't honour the agreement that was in place to let him leave for less than his release clause. 'We have been watching the market and I saw [Martin] Zubimendi, who is six months younger than Viktor, leave for €65million. Former England and Manchester United footballer Paul Ince has been charged with drink-driving in Cheshire. The 57-year-old was arrested after a black Range Rover collided with a central reservation on Chester High Road in Neston at about 5pm on Saturday, according to Cheshire police. Ince has been bailed to appear at Chester magistrates court on Friday 18 July. The former footballer made more than 200 appearances for Manchester United during the early to mid-1990s, winning two Premier League titles, two FA Cups and a European Cup Winners' Cup. He also played for West Ham, Wolverhampton Wanderers and Inter Milan during a career that spanned 20 years. He won 53 caps for England and, in 1993, became the first black footballer to captain the national team, leading the side in a friendly against the United States just a year after making his senior debut. After his retirement, Ince moved into management, taking charge of clubs including Macclesfield Town, MK Dons, Blackburn Rovers and Blackpool. His most recent role was at Reading, which he managed between 2022 and 2023. In a statement, police said: 'At around 5pm on Saturday 28 June, police were called following reports of a collision on Chester High Road, Neston. 'The incident involved a black Range Rover which had collided with the central reservation barrier. Officers attended the scene and arrested a 57-year-old man. Paul Ince, the former England captain, has been charged with drink driving after a collision involving a Range Rover on Saturday. The former Manchester United, Liverpool and Inter Milan midfielder was held by police after the vehicle hit a central reservation in Neston, Cheshire. Officers have since confirmed he will appear in court next month to face a charge of drink driving. Cheshire Police said it was called to reports of a collision at 5pm on Saturday. As reported by The Daily Mail, the incident took place close to Heswall Golf Club where Ince has previously posted content on Instagram. Ince was England's first black men's captain and won 53 caps for his country, starring at Euro 96 and the World Cup in France in 1998.. Having won a European Cup Winners' Cup, two Premier Leagues, two FA Cups and a League Cup while playing, he has since embarked on a career in management. His most recent head coaching role was at Reading, where he left in 2023. He had previously been at Macclesfield, MK Dons, Blackburn Rovers, Notts County and Blackpool.
