Killer Inn is Square Enix's new ‘murder mystery action' game

The Verge06-06-2025
Square Enix just announced Killer Inn, a new 'murder mystery action' game, as part of Summer Game Fest on Friday.
In a Killer Inn match, 24 players are divided into two teams of 'wolves' and 'lambs,' and it's the job of the lambs to discover and kill all the wolves or for the wolves to kill the lambs. (Just to be clear, you play as humans, but with the title of wolves or lambs.) When wolves kill a lamb, they'll leave clues like a piece of hair or clothing that the lambs can use to try and identify the wolves.
Killer Inn is coming to PC, and it will be getting a closed beta 'soon.' You can apply for the beta on the game's Steam page.

The First Descendant Breakthrough Demo Out Now On All Platforms

The First Descendent Today, the demo for the big new Breakthrough update went live for The First Descendant across PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC via Steam. NEXON will keep the demo live until August 6 and gives players a sneak peek at what's coming in the new update. You can pre-register for the upcoming content drop through August 7 (when the full update launches) to claim some exclusive rewards and bonuses. Players that finish the demo before the update is out will receive their own bonus rewards as well, including a Spoils Box and a Crystallization Catalyst, in addition to titles and paint styles if you participate in the First Look Demo Event of the new region, Axion Plains. The First Descendant—Breakthrough For those unaware, The First Descendant is one of the more prominent and reasonably popular free-to-play live service looter-shooters on the market from the past couple of years. You'll complete missions, team up with folks, shoot a bunch of bad guys, and collect a ton of gear and upgrade materials, then do it all again for dozens or hundreds of hours. The Breakthrough update sounds like it should be a pretty massive addition to the game, as it includes tons of content like the new Axion Plains field, the new hover bike vehicle, a Colossus Field raid event, a new Descendent, and even a Nier: Automata crossover. I haven't played The First Descendant actively in a long time myself, but I did give it a go for a few weeks when it first launched and the gameplay loop is really strong. I just typically prefer my games with swords and magic rather than sci-fi guns and bullets. Typically. I did really like what I played, though, and probably would have stuck around longer if I'd had a few friends to check it out with. But when you're a 30-something married guy with kids who rarely plays games just for fun anymore, that's often a hard hill to climb. If you're eagerly anticipating the big new content drop coming soon for The First Descendant, this demo is an awesome way to satiate that appetite ever-so-slightly over the next few weeks. Here's The New ‘Five Nights At Freddy's 2' Trailer And Its Release Date

Five Nights at Freddy's 2 Five Nights at Freddy's was an underestimated video game adaptation, where the traditional Hollywood class did not seem to understand its massive appeal among Gen Z. The first film performed so well a sequel was auto-greenlit, and now we have our first trailer for Five Nights at Freddy's 2, which you can see below: The trailer has already gotten a million views in its first three hours with a wild 166,000 to 750 like-to-dislike ratio. That's reflected in my entire gaming timeline being filled with fans combing through every second of the trailer and overwhelmingly getting hyped about the various bits and pieces they've found from the games, praising how they're apparently being adapted. It cannot be overstated just how big of a gaming/horror success the original Five Nights at Freddy's was. The film made $291 million worldwide on a $20 million budget, a 14x multiplier and an industry smash hit. And like many horror properties, the places the game has gone means that there are likely unlimited paths toward future sequels. If they can get these movies out every two years, which seems possible, that's printing money. Five Nights 1 was out in October 2023, while Five Nights at Freddy's 2's release date is December 5, 2025, just over two years later. Even if the second film performs worse than the first, the amount it will make compared to the low budget it may now have should still be wildly profitable. You can make less money and increase costs a bit and this would still be considered a huge hit. Compare this to one of the best horror movies of 2025, Companion, which made a whopping $36 million worldwide. Heart Eyes, also this year, made $33 million. Bring Her Back made $22 million. The only horror movie rocketing out of this class is Sinners with $365 million and I mean, that's not even that much more than the original Five Nights was. Movie or Minecraft, huge, huge earners. It's just not the same thing with that kind of budget and honestly, a more passionate fanbase than either of those who will turn out to ensure this movie makes money, even if it's a few hundred million less than those others. If you want to read the absurdly long, just-released synopsis for Five Nights at Freddy's 2, you can read that below: --- "They're not just at Freddy's anymore. In 2023, Blumhouse's box-office horror phenomenon Five Nights at Freddy's, based on the blockbuster game series by Scott Cawthon, became the highest-grossing horror film of the year. Now, a shocking new chapter of animatronic terror begins. One year has passed since the supernatural nightmare at Freddy Fazbear's Pizza. The stories about what transpired there have been twisted into a campy local legend, inspiring the town's first ever Fazfest. Former security guard Mike (Josh Hutcherson) and police officer Vanessa (Elizabeth Lail) have kept the truth from Mike's 11-year-old sister, Abby (Piper Rubio), concerning the fate of her animatronic friends. But when Abby sneaks out to reconnect with Freddy, Bonnie, Chica, and Foxy, it will set into motion a terrifying series of events, revealing dark secrets about the true origin of Freddy's, and unleashing a long-forgotten horror hidden away for decades. The cast of Five Nights at Freddy's 2 includes returning co-stars Theodus Crane as Jeremiah and the legendary Matthew Lillard as William Afton. The film features new characters played by Freddy Carter (Shadow and Bone, Pennyworth), Wayne Knight (Jurassic Park, Seinfeld), Mckenna Grace (Ghostbusters franchise, Annabelle Comes Home) and horror icon Skeet Ulrich (Scream, Riverdale). Five Nights at Freddy's 2 is directed by acclaimed returning filmmaker Emma Tammi and is written by game series creator Scott Cawthon." Follow me on Twitter, YouTube, Bluesky and Instagram. Legrests are a thing, and you can find them far cheaper than this, but 'You really just want a second tiltable butt cushion, trust us!' is a vibe I haven't seen before. It's called the Otto, has height and tilt adjust (down to 30 degrees), and is filled with memory foam.
