Bengals young defender predicted to disappoint this 2025 NFL season
Cincinnati extended Tee Higgins and Ja'Marr Chase this offseason, meaning that, along with Joe Burrow's new contract, the Bengals have a lot of money tied up on offense. That means the team needs to make the most of their draft picks, since rookies come in on inexpensive contracts.

At the 2025 NFL Draft, the Bengals went defense with their first-round pick, selecting Texas A&M's Shemar Stewart 17th overall. Over three seasons at Texas A&M, Stewart posted 4.5 sacks, 65 tackles, and one forced fumble, numbers that may not inspire much confidence.
Cincinnati need help on defense now that their offensive core is locked up, but that level of production doesn't exactly inspire confidence that the 21-year-old edge rusher will make an immediate impact as a rookie.
As a result, Bleacher Report's Kristopher Knox predicts that Stewart will be a bust as a newcomer to Zac Taylor's team.
"It feels increasingly likely that Cincinnati Bengals rookie first-round pick Shemar Stewart is going to disappoint in 2025," Knox wrote. "The Bengals are partly to blame for that.

"Cincinnati desperately needed to add defensive help this offseason and took a chance on Stewart with the 17th overall pick in April's draft. However, the Texas A&M product was always viewed as a raw and potentially risky player."

Last season, Trey Hendrickson recorded 17.5 sacks, but his production wasn't enough to push the Bengals into the playoffs. Furthermore, there's the possibility that Cincinnati won't have their standout pass rusher for the 2025 season, as he stated in May that he is unhappy with how the contract extension process is going and could be on the way out.
'With the lack of communication post-draft made it imminently clear to my party — meaning my wife, my son and my agent, a small group of people — that I had (to) inform that this might not work out," Hendrickson said in May (h/t The Athletic). "I don't think it was necessary. I think we should have all hoped for the best until proven otherwise.'

If Hendrickson isn't in the Bengals' defense to start the season, it puts more pressure on Stewart to be a productive player come Week 1.
All rookies go through a learning experience, but Cincinnati might be putting the young pass rusher in a difficult spot where he has to adapt quickly. That could lead to him being a bust this season.

Aaron Rodgers Breaks Social Media Hiatus for 1st Time After Surprising Marriage
Aaron Rodgers has returned to social media after tying the knot. In a Wednesday, July 2, Instagram post, Rodgers, 41, was all smiles while posing with fellow Pittsburgh Steelers teammates Scotty Miller, Ben Skowronek, Pat Freiermuth, Calvin Austin III, DeKaylin Metcalf and Roman Wilson. 'Summerball,' Rodgers captioned the upload. News broke in June that Rodgers agreed to a one-year contract with the NFL team after spending two seasons with the New York Jets. In NFL legend Troy Aikman's mind, he hopes that Rodgers is able to 'recapture some of his form' with the Steelers in the fall. (Rodgers tore his Achilles in his first game with the Jets in 2023.) Why Aaron Rodgers' 1st Official Picture as a Pittsburgh Steeler Is Continuing to Spark Engagement Rumors 'I think it's a good fit, actually,' Aikman, 58, told Us Weekly in a cover story. ESPN reported that Rodgers visited the Steelers' practice facility in March but remained tight-lipped about his future plans. 'I wasn't stringing anyone along,' Rodgers said during an April appearance on ESPN's The Pat McAfee Show. 'I wasn't holding anyone hostage. I was honest from the jump about where I was at mentally and some of the constraints I have in my life right now that warrant my attention.' Rodgers continued, 'I'm open to anything and attached to nothing. Retirement could still be a possibility, but right now my focus has been — and will continue to be — on my personal life. And that's what I've told the coaches. There's still conversations that are being had. It's all been very honest lines of communication.' Pittsburgh Steelers QB Aaron Rodgers Reveals He's Married After Ring Speculation The same month Rodgers joined the Steelers, he revealed he secretly exchanged vows when asked about a black band on his left finger during a meeting with reporters at Steelers minicamp. 'It's a wedding ring,' he said while sharing that he exchanged vows a 'couple months ago.' Rodgers did not reveal the identity of his partner at the time. He announced in April that he was in a 'serious relationship' while appearing on The Pat McAfee Show. 'I have off-the-field stuff going on that requires my attention,' he said at the time. 'I have personal commitments not knowing what my future was going to look like after last year that are important to me.' Rodgers added, 'I have a lot of things that are taking my attention and have, beginning in January, away from football. That's been where I've been focusing most of my attention.'

(AP Photo/Yuki Iwamura) NEW YORK (AP) — Chicago's Matthew Boyd won a matchup of All-Star left-handers as Max Fried left early because of yet another blister on his pitching hand, and the Cubs stopped the New York Yankees' five-game winning streak with a 5-2 victory on Saturday. Aaron Judge hit a two-run homer in the ninth off Brad Keller, his 35th of the season, and became the fastest player to 350 home runs. Playing his 1,088th game, Judge bettered Mark McGwire's 1,280. He threw 62 of 85 pitches for strikes. Judge hit a pair of doubles against the 34-year-old. Daniel Palencia, throwing at up to 101.1 mph, got two outs for his 11th save in 12 chances. Fried (11-3) allowed nine of 18 batters to reach, giving up four runs — three earned — six hits and three walks in three innings. He threw just 39 of 73 pitches for strikes.
