State schools to play cricket at Lord's ground
A new tournament, specifically for state school pupils, has been launched at Lord's cricket ground by former England captains Heather Knight and Michael Vaughan.
The Knight-Stokes Cup will be a T20 competition contested next summer via a series of knockout regional qualifiers with the finals to be staged on the main ground at Lord's.

The tournament will be for school pupils in the Year 10 age group with separate events for boys and girls.
It is part of the game's wider efforts to increase opportunities for state school children to play cricket, following a critical report about elitism in the game.

A 2023 report by the Independent Commission for Equity in Cricket (ICEC) reported "elitism and class-based discrimination" in the game was partly down to a lack of cricket in state schools and a talent pathway structurally aligned to private schools.
The commission said it was "alarmed" by repeated references to "the bank of mum and dad", with respondents to their study stressing the importance of financial support from parents in determining their success.

The report recommended the historic Eton versus Harrow school matches should not be played at Lord's - but objections by some members of the MCC led to a compromise in which that match - and the annual university match between Oxford and Cambridge - will remain at the ground until at least 2027, when there will be a review.

The Knight-Stokes Cup will be held in the summer of 2026 which schools can sign up to now.
It's named after Knight and the current England captain Ben Stokes, both of whom learned to play at state schools.
Marylebone Cricket Club (MCC) Foundation will oversee the organisation of the cup in conjunction with regional cricket boards.

The competition will also provide opportunities for potentially talented cricketers to be spotted at an early age.
A number of independent schools have agreed to provide grounds and facilities for state schools to play matches.

Auburn Tigers football: Deuce Knight 2025 player profile
Knight is ready to prove himself as a quality starting QB in the SEC. Auburn landed its quarterback of the future in its 2025 haul in Mississippi dual-threat Deuce Knight. Knight signed with Auburn as one of the top quarterbacks in the nation, flipping his pledge from Notre Dame to the Tigers last October. Early analysis from Andrew Ivins of 247Sports suggests that Knight is great at challenging opposing defenses with his left-handed passing ability. Owns a smoother stroke and can rip the ball on tight lines to the second and third levels, but accuracy can vary and hamper drives. At his best when moving left and looking to attack the perimeter as he excels at connecting on out-breaking routes at or past the sticks. Can also challenge a defense vertically with his arm strength, but needs to get better at playing from a structured environment and working through his reads. Here is a look at Knight's 2025 player profile as he prepares to compete for the starting quarterback job. Is converted striker Watson Sunderland's best centre-back?
We have been revealing former Sunderland defender Danny Collins' top-five Black Cats central defenders of the past 50 years. Taking top spot is Dave Watson, who played for the club between 1970 and 1975 after a £100,000 move from Rotherham United. "It's difficult but one of them was part of a trophy-winning team," Collins told BBC Radio Newcastle. "Watson got converted from an attacking player to a centre-back and a year later was winning the FA Cup against a Leeds side who were right up there at the time," said Collins. "He's gone in there and learned his new position within a season and it shows how good he was that he went on to make 65 appearances for England."
