The Star7 hours ago
CANBERRA (Bernama-WAM): A team of scientists in New South Wales has developed the world's first mRNA vaccine designed to protect livestock from foot-and-mouth disease (FMD), a highly contagious viral illness that poses a major threat to livestock.
According to Emirates News Agency (WAM) this FMD vaccine is an mRNA vaccine which is unique in that it is fully synthetic, making it safer and much faster to produce.
The development of this new vaccine is part of the Premier of New South Wales Chris Minns's Government's US$1 billion biosecurity plan, aimed at safeguarding New South Wales' US$8 billion livestock sector and reinforcing national food security.
The vaccine has taken less than 18 months to develop and has cost about US$2.5 million. - Bernama-WAM

Moscow ready to welcome arrival of Sultan Ibrahim for state visit

MOSCOW: Moscow is ready to welcome the arrival of His Majesty, Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia who will begin his maiden state visit to Russia starting Tuesday (Aug 5) until August 10. Malaysian Ambassador to Russia Datuk Cheong Loon Lai said Sultan Ibrahim expressed hope that the meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin on Wednesday (Aug 6) could open a new chapter in Malaysia-Russia bilateral relations. "His Majesty also expressed hope that the two leaders can hold productive discussions, especially on matters of mutual interest," he told Bernama here. Cheong said Sultan Ibrahim also admired the historical and technological values in Russia, and had even established many interactions with the country in the fields of trade and investment since His Majesty's reign as the Sultan of Johor. "His Majesty also shares the same interests as President Putin, such as horse riding," he said. This visit at the invitation of President Putin is considered historic and meaningful because it is the first state visit by a Malaysian Head of State to Russia since the establishment of diplomatic relations in 1967. Two locations for the visit in Moscow, namely the Russian Automotive Technology Development Center (Nami) and the Tochka Kipeniya Technology and Innovation Center, are also ready to welcome Sultan Ibrahim's arrival. "His Majesty will visit Nami to inspect and explore Russian automotive technology, particularly in the field of research and development. "This visit provides an opportunity for His Majesty to see first-hand the advancement of Russian technology given His Majesty's deep interest in the automotive industry," said Cheong. The visit to Tochka Kipeniya, he said, also provides an opportunity for Malaysia to explore innovative Russian solutions in the field of drone and robotics development through artificial intelligence (AI) applications for public use, security, defence, environment, space projects and biodrones. Earlier, Cheong attended a briefing session on the national celebration event at the Kremlin, the location of Sultan Ibrahim's official meeting with President Putin. Also present at the session were the Chief of Protocol, Ministry of Foreign Affairs Datuk Yubazlan Yusof, Chief of Government Ceremonies, Prime Minister's Department Datuk Rozainor Ramli and the Grand Chamberlain of Istana Negara Datuk Azuan Effendy Zairakithnaini. Sultan Ibrahim departed from the Royal Malaysian Air Force Air Base in Subang at 8.55am (Malaysian time) and is scheduled to arrive here on Tuesday. After Moscow, His Majesty is scheduled to travel to Kazan from August 8 to 10. Sultan Ibrahim ascended the throne as the 17th Yang di-Pertuan Agong on Jan 31 2024.- Bernama

Oasis Home targets RM10 million plus annual revenue from new halal health and wellness product line

PUCHONG: Oasis Home Holding Bhd expects to generate more than RM10 million in yearly revenue from its new halal health supplement and wellness product line developed under a joint venture with livestream marketing agency GIMCare (M) Sdn Bhd. CEO Datuk Jaden Teoh Yee Seang said the figure is based on performance benchmarks from GIMCare and its parent company, GIMmedia, which currently records RM30 million in gross merchandise value monthly across livestream and e-commerce channels. 'GIMCare is doing, in similar but not in the same category we're developing, over RM4 million to RM5 million in monthly revenue. So, if we're saying our yearly target is RM10 million, I think that's a comfortable and not exaggerating estimate. I think it's an attainable target,' he told reporters at the joint venture agreement signing ceremony today between Oasis Home's wholly owned subsidiary, Oasis Wellness International Sdn Bhd, and livestream marketing agency GIMCare (M). Teoh said the upcoming wellness range will prioritise strict regulatory compliance and halal certification. 'We are very good in sourcing the ingredients from overseas especially those who have trademark and also comes with clinical research, the ingredients of the supplements.' Teoh said the joint venture aims to tap into halal markets in Indonesia, Thailand and Vietnam, which have sizeable Muslim populations. 'For example, one of our guests today is from the Ministry of Health who works closely with counterparts in Thailand and Indonesia. If we meet the local requirements, adapting our products to regional markets will be straightforward,' he added. Teoh said Oasis Home's direct-to-consumer business model built on digital sales channels enables cost-efficiency and affordability. 'We don't pay rental or carry heavy operating costs. That's why we can offer premium wellness products at accessible prices. Wellness and healthcare don't have to be expensive but they must comply with regulatory standards.' The joint venture company, OG Alliance Sdn Bhd, will be incorporated with a start-up capital of RM500,000, with Oasis Wellness holding a 51% stake and GIMCare owning the remainder. GIMCare is a wholly owned subsidiary of GIMmedia Sdn Bhd, a multichannel network and top-tier livestream enabler recognised by platforms such as TikTok, Shopee and Lazada. The initial product pipeline includes marine collagen powder drinks, skin health supplements and children's immunity boosters. The products will be distributed via major platforms including TikTok, Shopee and Lazada. OG Alliance is expected to be incorporated by early September, with its first product launch scheduled for the end of the year. Teoh said digital platforms are driving growth in the wellness space, 'In July 2025, TikTok's wellness category alone recorded over RM80 million in monthly revenue. According to IMARC Group, Malaysia's health and wellness market is projected to grow from US$11.4 billion (RM48 billion) in 2024 to US$18 billion by 2033, at a compounded annual growth rate of 4.6%.'
