DEMON SLAYER: INFINITY CASTLE Shatters Records in Japan and Could Take Down MUGAN TRAIN — GeekTyrant
The highly anticipated movie, adapted from Koyoharu Gotouge's Infinity Castle arc, didn't just have a strong debut, it blew past records. It now holds the crown for Japan's highest opening day ever with 1.64 billion yen ($11.11 million).
On its third day, it pulled in another 2 billion yen ($13 million), the best single-day performance for any film in Japan. Its opening weekend was equally massive, bringing in $37 million across three days and an astonishing $49 million in four days.
It's been breaking a bunch of opening records previously set by Mugen Train , and now it beat a previous record set by Mugen Train , Demon Slayer: Kimetsu no Yaiba Infinity Castle and is now the fastest film to reach 10 billion yen in Japan's history, hitting the mark in only ten days.
Fans worldwide eager to see the epic final battle will need to hang on a bit longer. This is the first of a trilogy wrapping up the saga, but an international rollout is staggered.
According to Crunchyroll, the US and UK release date is set for September 12. That's when we'll see if this juggernaut can topple Mugen Train's $500 million global haul.
Back in 2020, Mugen Train not only became the highest-grossing anime movie ever, surpassing Your Name , but it also ended up as the top-grossing film worldwide that year—beating Hollywood heavyweights like Tenet . Now, Infinity Castle is looking to claim that throne.
If its record-breaking start is any indication, Demon Slayer fans could be witnessing history all over again.

South Korean actor Jung Woo-sung marries non-celebrity girlfriend less than a year after confirming child with model Moon Ga-bi
SEOUL, Aug 5 — South Korean actor Jung Woo-sung has reportedly registered his marriage with his longtime girlfriend, less than a year after model Moon Ga-bi revealed he was the father of her child. The 52-year-old and his current partner recently completed their marriage registration at a local district office and have informed those close to them, according to a report by Mydaily. 'The two have spent a long time together, during the good times and the tough times,' an insider told Mydaily. 'In particular, she has been a strong pillar of support when he has had difficult times personally or with work-related things.' The source added, 'I hope the two receive blessings as they overcome their hardships. More than anything else, Jung Woo Sung is worried about hurting his wife.' Jung's agency, Artist Company, told Hankook Ilbo that since the matter pertains to the actor's personal life, the agency will not be issuing an official statement. 'We respectfully ask that people refrain from excessive speculation and interest regarding his personal affairs,' the agency added. In November 2024, Jung made headlines after Moon publicly revealed that he was the biological father of her child in a post on Instagram, following a report by South Korean media outlet Dispatch. At the time, Jung's agency confirmed the paternity and said, 'We are discussing the best approach to raising the child, and Jung will fulfil his responsibilities as a father.' Moon reportedly gave birth in March 2024 after confirming her pregnancy in June 2023. The pair, who had met in 2022, agreed not to marry and chose to co-parent separately, with Jung providing financial support, according to Koreaboo. Following the controversy, Jung apologised when he was on stage at the 45th Blue Dragon Film Awards to accept the Most Popular Film award for 12.12: The Day (2023). 'I want to sincerely apologise for disappointing everyone who has shown me love and support. I will accept all the criticism and carry it with me. As a father, I will take full responsibility for my son until the very end.' Jung has previously cultivated a scandal-free image, and had served as a goodwill ambassador for the UN refugee agency for nearly a decade until July 2024.

James Cameron warns that his first post-Avatar 3 movie could be the "most challenging film" he'll ever make, and the director "might not even be up to the task"
When you buy through links on our articles, Future and its syndication partners may earn a commission. James Cameron is about to become the highest-grossing director of all time, but even he thinks he "might not be up to the task" of making his next movie after Avatar: Fire and Ash. Speaking to Discussing Film's Andrew J. Salazar about his upcoming adaptation of Ghosts of Hiroshima, which charts the story of survivors of both the Hiroshima and Nagasaki nuclear bombs, Cameron said, "To me, this might be the most challenging film I ever make. I don't 100% have my strategy fully in place for how I want to see it; how I want to shield people from the horror but still be honest; how I can find some kind of poetry, beauty, or spiritual epiphany in it somehow – which I know must be there. It's there in every human story." "It's going to be very challenging," Cameron reiterated. "I might not even be up to the task, but that never stopped me before." Cameron bought the rights to Ghosts of Hiroshima – written by Charles Pellegrino, who advised the director on Titanic and Avatar – last year. In a separate interview with Jake's Takes, Cameron again remained humble in the face of telling its story, including the real-life tragedy of engineer Tsutomu Yamaguchi, who was returning home to see his family in Hiroshima. Upon escaping the blast, he boarded a train to Nagasaki just before it, too, was bombed. "I only hope that I know enough as a filmmaker to do this subject justice. I know how to do the visual effects – the issue is how to tell this as a human story and, yet, be truthful to what happened, to the horrific aspect of it," Cameron said. While Ghosts of Hiroshima is undated, the rest of Cameron's releases are already on the calendar. Avatar: Fire and Ash, which just received its first trailer, is out on December 19, 2025. If it grosses $2 billion, it will see Cameron overtake Steven Spielberg as the highest-grossing director in history. Avatar 4 and 5 hit cinemas on December 21, 2029 and December 19, 2031 respectively. Cameron has even indicated he would be prepared to direct the final two films in the series, despite previously suggesting otherwise.
