"Session Based on Open Dialogue Results at SPIEF-2025 is Important for BRICS": Foreign Experts on the Discussion
New Delhi [India], June 20: Doctor of Economics and Professor at Complutense University of Madrid, Juan A. de Castro de Arespacochaga, emphasised the special significance of the session "Shaping a New Platform for Global Growth" that opened SPIEF-2025. This session set the tone for the forum's business program and the future economic agenda of global development. The expert shared his observations on the forum's sidelines in St. Petersburg from June 18 to 21.
"This was a key session because we had a truly open dialogue about the future. Of course, I think this will be important for Russia, BRICS, and those countries that today represent the global majority. These are countries that will become the leading seven states by 2050. Undoubtedly, this is important for Russia, but it's also important for the whole world. I was in Russia in 2023 and have come back now. Both then and now, I notice optimism, dynamics, and development here. And all the businesspeople and leaders here see this too," noted Juan A. de Castro de Arespacochaga.
According to the expert, the discussion that took place and the entire SPIEF-2025 will become a powerful impulse for the economic growth of Global South countries.
Tiago Rudiger, CEO of Tanssi Foundation, emphasised that the results of the National Centre "Russia" Open Dialogue, which played a special role in forming the forum's agenda, were the foundation of the session "Shaping a New Platform for Global Growth. " He added that without the large-scale event of NC "Russia," the substantive start of the SPIEF-2025 business block would not have taken place.
"I believe that the Open Dialogue several months ago in Moscow was an amazing event. It gave me great pleasure to participate in it and become part of such a large-scale event. The event was brilliantly organised, and the discussions on various issues and spheres proved productive. It was a diverse and open dialogue--exactly as it should be. The event featured a wide geography of participants and an extensive range of topics," shared the expert from Brazil.
SPIEF-2025 will take place in St. Petersburg from June 18 to 21. Deputy Chief of Staff of the Presidential Administration of the Russian Federation Maxim Oreshkin moderated the session "Shaping a New Platform for Global Growth." At the session organised by NC "Russia," participants discussed the report on the results of the Open Dialogue prepared by the Centre for Cross-Industry Expertise "Third Rome."

Piyush Goyal meets J-K traders, discuss strategies to sustain industrial development in cold chain, agro-processing sectors
Srinagar (Jammu and Kashmir) [India], July 6 (ANI): Union Minister of Commerce & Industry Piyush Goyal met with representatives of the Jammu-Kashmir Fruits and Vegetable Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) in Srinagar on Sunday. The meeting focused on strategies to sustain industrial development in the cold chain and agro-processing sectors, crucial for strengthening J-K's agricultural economy and boosting exports. 'Today, I met with representatives of the Jammu-Kashmir Fruits and Vegetable Processing and Integrated Cold Chain Association (JKPICCA) in Srinagar. During this, discussions were held on strategies to sustain industrial development in the cold chain and agro-processing sectors, which are extremely important for strengthening J&K's agricultural economy and boosting exports,' Minister Goyal wrote in a post on Earlier today, Goyal addressed the FTII: Traders Conclave - 2025 in Srinagar and promised to work for the a reduction in the Goods and Services Tax imposed on handicrafts and handloom products to help promote the sector. 'The issue of GST levied on handicrafts and handlooms was brought to my attention by two or three system delegations. I have suggested that they submit an application regarding this matter to the Finance Ministry as well as to me so that we can explore what relief can be provided. We will try to reduce the GST rate from 12 per cent to 5 per cent on these items, which would help promote the handloom and handicraft sectors -- especially in Jammu & Kashmir. We will make efforts to find a way forward in this regard,' he said. The Union Minister said that Jammu and Kashmir will soon get a Centre of Excellence for Packaging and Design. 'I have directed officials to explore possibilities in collaboration with the Indian Institute of Packaging to initiate a project focused on quality packaging and design. They have been requested to identify a suitable location where this initiative can be launched at the earliest,' he said. Further, the Union Minister said that representatives have discussed setting up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) focused on storage technology, cold chain infrastructure, and encouraging startups and new talent. Goyal also assured that he will discuss with the NTPC and Solar Energy Corporation to establish a solar lighting or power generation facility in the area to help producers to export their products as a green product to get a greater prices. He had also held detailed discussions with the MSME Development Forum, Jammu-Kashmir, regarding various suggestions to promote local enterprises. (ANI)

Muharram processions conclude peacefully in Kashmir amid concern over ‘detention' of Shia mourners
Amid detentions of Shia mourners over alleged 'violations' in Srinagar, processions were carried out across Kashmir on Sunday (July 6, 2025) to mark Youm-e-Ashura, the 10th day of the Islamic holy month of Muharram. Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha, National Conference (NC) patron Dr. Farooq Abdullah, and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Ravinder Raina joined Shia Muslims in Srinagar for the occasion. Also read: Thousands take part in Muharram procession in Srinagar Wearing black attire and chanting religious slogans, hundreds of Shia mourners gathered in various parts of Srinagar, Budgam, Pulwama, and Baramulla. Through marasiya (elegies), they commemorated the martyrdom of Hazrat Imam Hussain, the grandson of Prophet Muhammad, and his companions in the Battle of Karbala over 1,400 years ago. The largest Muharram procession took place in Srinagar's old city. L-G Sinha participated in the procession at Botakadal and distributed refreshments among the mourners. However, Shia clerics expressed concern over recent detentions of mourners for allegedly hoisting pro-Palestine and pro-Hezbollah banners during processions, particularly in Srinagar. 'We haven't violated the Constitution or committed any breach of law. So why are FIRs being filed? Are we criminals or thieves? If they (the police) arrest our boys after the 14th (of Muharram), we will court mass arrests. Students' careers are at stake just because they mourned for their Imam. If they are touched, we will not stay calm. We should not be pushed to the wall,' said Aga Syed Mohammad Hadi, a Shia cleric and head of the Anjuman-e-Sharie Shiayan. NC leader Tanvir Sadiq stated that efforts were underway to secure the release of detained youth. 'The law and order is not with the elected government. However, we are hopeful all detained youth will be released in a couple of days,' Mr. Sadiq said. The Jammu and Kashmir Police had filed a First Information Report (FIR) against some mourners, alleging attempts to 'provoke unrest and disturb public order' during a procession on July 4. 'These actions were intended to provoke unrest, disturb public order, and disrupt communal harmony, posing a serious threat to the security and integrity of the nation,' the police said in a statement. The past week witnessed tension between mourners and the police over banners displaying pro-Palestine imagery and portraits of Hezbollah leader Sayyid Hassan Nasrallah and Iranian military commander Qasem Soleimani. Police have not disclosed the number of persons detained or subsequently released in connection with the incident. Joining mourners at Srinagar's Zadibal locality, Dr. Farooq Abdullah called for broader Muslim solidarity. 'Muslims should unite against all evil. It's the only way to see peace in the world. In fact, Islam preaches peace and brotherhood. It's the same message that was carried forward by Hazrat Imam Hussain, who fought against tyranny and evil. Karbala gave hope that Islam will survive against all odds,' Dr. Abdullah said. Kashmir's chief cleric, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, also paid tribute to the martyrs of Karbala. 'Imam Hussain (RA) refused to bow before oppression, setting an eternal example for all who stand for truth and justice. His sacrifice in Karbala remains a shining chapter in Islamic and human history,' he said.
