The Golden State Warriors continue to remain quiet as a mouse in free agency. They have been forced to watch the other Western Conference contenders get better around them while remaining stagnant themselves.

Fans have quickly grown frustrated with the situation in Golden State. However, there is still time in free agency to change the evaluation that the Warriors receive for this offseason.
With several key names still available, and situations evolving by the day, the Warriors should have several opportunities to make their splashes when the time comes.

Lock down Al Horford
Let's start with the obvious. The Warriors have been connected to Al Horford as the presumed frontrunners for a substantial amount of time this offseason. Sealing the deal will feel oh so sweet for Golden State.
Assuming Horford does not opt to just kick his feet up and call it a career, the veteran big man should have the inside track to starting at the five in 2025-26. That will provide the Warriors with a solid short-term solution.

Horford averaged 9.0 points, 6.2 rebounds, and 0.9 blocks per game, while shooting 36.3 percent from beyond the arc in 2024-25. The former champion should still have enough gas in the tank to help alleviate Draymond Green of needing to play center full-time.

Sign-and-trade Jonathan Kuminga to the Sacramento Kings
On July 6, Anthony Slater wrote, "[The Sacramento] Kings have been strongest pursuer of [Jonathan Kuminga], but nothing has come close."
Finally getting movement on the Kuminga front is necessary for the Warriors to get the rest of their offseason properly moving. If the Kings are the team most interested, they should be the partner here.

The major road block would be the type of contract that the athletic forward may desire. A big pay day may elude Kuminga here as Malik Monk stands out as the natural candidate to be sent back the other way for Golden State.
The Warriors could certainly acquire a couple of more players to allow Kuminga some extra financial flexibility. However, the 22-year-old would likely need to temper his expectations overall.

Add a key free-agent guard
If the Warriors are not yielding someone like Monk in a sign-and-trade for Kuminga, they will still need to address the need for additional firepower. There should be a few key names to monitor.

A reunion with De'Anthony Melton has been suggested. Adding Bradley Beal in the instance of a buyout could also prove worthwhile. Perhaps even adding someone like Malcolm Brogdon to run the second unit would have its worth.
The Warriors will have their options as free agency continues to develop. They cannot possibly strike out on all of them.

Broncos agree to terms with first-round pick Jahdae Barron

First-round cornerback Jahdae Barron will join the Broncos' rookies when they report to training camp Wednesday. He agreed to terms on a four-year, $18.073 million deal late Tuesday night that includes a $9.784 million signing bonus, Mike Klis of 9News reports. Advertisement The Broncos expect to have Barron as their starting slot cornerback on what should be one of the top secondaries in the league with 2024 defensive player of the year Pat Surtain II, Brandon Jones, Riley Moss and Talanoa Hufanga. Barron's agreement leaves Bengals edge rusher Shemar Stewart as the only first-round pick who is without a contract. The Broncos still have to come to terms with running back RJ Harvey, who is one of 30 second-rounders still unsigned. Texans receiver Jayden Higgins, the 34th overall pick, became the first second-round pick ever to receive a fully guaranteed contract. The Browns then had to give linebacker Carson Schwesinger, the 33rd overall pick, a fully guaranteed deal. No other second-round draft pick has signed.

Victor Wembanyama says he is ‘officially cleared to play again' after blood clot

San Antonio Spurs sensation Victor Wembanyama says he has been cleared to return to the court after recovering from a blood clot in his right shoulder. The 21-year-old, who was selected with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2023 NBA draft and is widely considered one of basketball's most exciting prospects in a generation, was forced to end his 2024-25 season early following the diagnosis of deep vein thrombosis. Wembanyama underwent surgery on the issue in March, but his absence meant he missed out on being named Defensive Player of the Year, an award he was the overwhelming favorite to win. 'I'm officially cleared to play again,' Wembanyama told French outlet L'Equipe. 'It's very fresh, I got the go-ahead from the Spurs medical staff just a few hours ago (Friday). Phew, I'm finally going to be able to play a bit of basketball again! 'My injury was an adventure, of course, but the worst is over. I'm much better today, both physically and mentally. I'm right on schedule in terms of what had been planned for my recovery timeline, and well ahead of schedule when you look at the history of NBA players who have had this type of problem. 'One can now say that this thrombosis is officially behind me. It shouldn't happen again.' Wembanyama admitted his 'head was spinning' when he first received the news, as he had never gone so long without playing basketball in his life. Despite being cleared to return, 'Wemby' admits he still has a lot of work to do before he is game ready. 'Now, I have to continue with specific work on my shoulder, and above all get back to my basketball habits,' he said. 'I haven't played 5-on-5 for five months now. If I were to have a game tomorrow, it would be risky. 'There are a lot of reflexes I need to rediscover, both conscious and linked to muscle memory. The first thought that comes to mind is: 'I've been betrayed by my body, it's let me down.' But this is not at all the right vision to have.' The unanimous 2023-24 Rookie of the Year, Wembanyama finished last season with a league high 176 blocks – 28 clear of the next best total – despite his campaign ending early. Wembanyama will likely again be the heavy favorite to win Defensive Player of the Year this coming season.

Nick Saban Receives Job 'Offer' Amid Coaching Return Speculation

Nick Saban Receives Job 'Offer' Amid Coaching Return Speculation originally appeared on The Spun. Even though he's in his mid-70s and been out of coaching for a year now, Nick Saban is still getting "job offers" to come back into college football. The latest one comes from a former star pupil. Advertisement In a recent interview, Georgia head coach Kirby Smart - who previously worked under Saban for years - said that he called Saban and offered to give him assistant Will Muschamp's job of defensive analyst. He said that Saban was "overqualified" and "wasn't interested." Granted, Smart was joking. But Smart still feels that the game is better with Saban coaching it. "Yeah, I called and offered him (Will) Muschamp's job, but he was overqualified, so he wasn't interested," Smart joked. "No, I heard all the scuttlebutt and everything about it. I almost laughed. It was like somebody needed something interesting to talk about yesterday, so they chose to go to Coach Saban to do it. "The game is better with him involved, and he is involved. He is passionate about it. He and I still talk and share ideas from time to time about defensive philosophies and the way to do things, and he's still watching tape and very, very involved in football. He loves it. His brilliance, as brilliant as he is in many ways, is around football. It's around scheming. It's around another way to do something to stay ahead of the offensive minds, and I think that's one of the elite talents he has, and he still loves that. He's still passionate about that." Saban retired from coaching at the University of Alabama following the 2023 season. Advertisement The Crimson Tide hired Kalen DeBoer after an exemplary spell at Washington, but the team struggled to retain recruits and struggled even harder to replicate Saban's success in their first year without him. Alabama went 9-3 in the regular season and lost the ReliaQuest Bowl to finish 9-4 on the year. It was their first season since Saban's first year at the helm where Alabama suffered four losses in a year.
