California officials capture, kill mountain lion accused of attack on camp employee
Over the weekend, CDFW was able to locate and capture a mountain lion responsible for a June 14 attack on a summer camp employee in western Trinity County. The area is located in the middle of Redding and Shasta counties. Officials said a DNA analysis confirmed that the captured lion was the one responsible for the attack. Subsequently, the lion was euthanized.

'Although mountain lions typically pose little threat to humans, CDFW encourages those who live, work, and recreate in mountain lion country to take precautions to minimize the risk of encountering a mountain lion,' CDFW said on social media. 'These precautions include deer-proofing your property to avoid attracting a lion's main food source. To not hike, bike, or jog at dawn, dusk, or at night, and to avoid hiking, biking, or jogging alone.'
CDFW also advised the public to remove dense vegetation from around homes to reduce hiding spaces.

62-year-old man arrested for wife's death in San Marino
The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department arrested a San Marino man after he allegedly killed his wife in January. Deputies identified the man as 62-year-old Yoon Lai. Authorities have revealed how a five-year-old girl fell overboard on a Disney cruise, prompting a dramatic ocean rescue by her father. As the Disney Dream sailed toward Fort Lauderdale, Florida, at 11.30 a.m. on Sunday, the young girl was sitting on the fourth-deck railing while her parents played shuffleboard nearby. The family had completed a four-night voyage through the Bahamas aboard the $900 million cruise when disaster struck and the girl slipped backwards, plunging 45ft into the ocean. Initially, it was not clear what had led to the girl's fall. Now the Broward County Sheriff's Office has confirmed that the child had lost her balance and tumbled through a porthole, CBS Miami reports. The dad leapt from the cruise to save his daughter, treading water for up to 20 minutes before both were pulled aboard the ship's rescue boat. 'This family is so blessed,' a sheriff's spokesperson said, keeping the family's identity anonymous. 'It's great to be able to respond to good news rather than what could have been a tragic outcome.' Passenger Monica Shannon told CBS the railings had 'little divots and spaces' that made it possible for the girl to climb up. Shannon was on the third-floor deck at the time, one below where the girl plunged from. 'I kind of see something really fast flew by, I didn't think anything of it,' she said. 'I just figured it was maybe a part of the show or just the experience, but about five minutes later we heard that someone flew overboard.' Another passenger named Chandler previously told People magazine about the moment the girl hit the water. 'It sounded like hitting the pavement,' she said. 'Then this awful scream from what I assume is the mother and then this massive splash.' Chandler said she was with her family when the commotion began, and 'Mr. M.O.B.,' meaning man overboard, blared out over the ship's intercom as it traveled between Nassau and Grand Bahama Island. The passenger said she didn't think rescuers would be able to locate the dad and daughter and told her nine-year-old daughter Harper that 'they were probably gone.' Video shared online shows the yellow rescue boat quickly bobbing through the waters to reach the father and daughter as onlookers watched from on top of the ship. One clip shared on TikTok shows the girl in the boat wrapped in a towel while being embraced by a rescue worker. In another, the girl's sodden father could be seen breathlessly clutching onto a rescuer. Travelers erupted into rapturous applause as the rescue teams threw out a rope for the pair to grab onto and safely pulled them onto the jetty.

California fireworks warehouse explosion leaves family of missing brothers searching for answers
Family members are in agony on day three of the investigation into what happened at the fireworks facility in Esparto after several explosions on Tuesday. The parents of three brothers — 18-year-old Jesus Ramos, 22-year-old Johnny Ramos and 28-year-old Junior Melendez — faced the danger head-on, desperate to find their sons after the fireworks facility they worked at exploded. Their mother, Marisol Ramos, said she and her husband went to the facility themselves, looking for their sons the night of the explosions. When they got there, they said they were the only ones around. Marisol said they were the only ones brave enough to enter the grounds. "No police, no fire department, no agencies. Nobody. It was just me and my husband inside in there," Marisol said. Law enforcement said the volatility of the fireworks and other explosives being set off was too dangerous to get close to. "We cannot move forward and risk any more injury to anyone else on this scene, so I appreciate and understand how much you want answers and we're doing everything we can to bring you that," said Undersheriff Matt Davis with the Yolo County Sheriff's Department. "I know putting your life at risk for some people you don't know is a lot to take in, but those are people. They have families, they have babies. My nephews don't have a father anymore," said Jhanelly Ramos, the sister of the missing brothers. The Ramos family stuck close to the media, saying it was their only source of information. "That's how bad this situation is," Jhanelly said. "Nobody is really understanding that except for you guys. The news. You guys are actually being helpful." Families listened to Wednesday's press conference, confronting officials on the handling of disseminating information when it comes to the seven missing people. "You guys aren't focused well enough on the people in there. When there's families sick to their stomachs, losing sleep," said Syanna Ruiz, girlfriend of one of the missing men. A day later, at the next press conference, members of the media were told to drive further toward the facility and check into an area they were only allowed to enter. "I asked very respectfully if I could go through because I have victims, ya know, those are my three brothers. What does she say? 'No. You can't be here, get out,'" Jhanelly said. Officials did not take any questions after the press conference. They did mention giving hotel vouchers to impacted family members. "If someone was hurt, they could've saved them. Not anymore. I just need my babies. That's all I want. If they're gone, I just need their ashes. I just need to see them and feel them in my hands. That's all I want," Marisol said. Marisol is desperate to find her sons. "I just need some information. Please, I'm begging the city, the state, anybody. I need information, please," she said. Law enforcement said they are doing everything they can to move things along, but the danger and complexity of the situation are making things challenging.
