Spurs' Victor Wembanyama says he's cleared to return following blood clot
San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama expects to play this coming season and has been fully cleared after dealing with deep vein thrombosis in his shoulder for the last few months, he told the French newspaper L'Equipe in remarks published Monday.

There was no immediate comment from the Spurs on the report. It has been expected that the team anticipated Wembanyama would be able to start this coming season, though there was no official word until now.

'I'm officially cleared to return. … I'll finally be able to play a bit of basketball again,' Wembanyama told the French sports daily.

Wembanyama was the league's rookie of the year two years ago, and Spurs guard Stephon Castle won that same trophy this past season. Wembanyama was the front-runner to be defensive player of the year last season when he was diagnosed with the blood clot in his right shoulder in February.

He was averaging 24.3 points, 11 rebounds, 3.8 blocks and 3.7 assists when he was shut down; the only other player in NBA history to finish a season averaging all that was Kareem Abdul-Jabbar in 1975-76.

All Blacks make 10 changes to the starting lineup for the third rugby test against France
WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) — All Blacks head coach Scott Robertson has made 10 changes to his starting lineup for Saturday's third rugby test against France, naming hooker Brodie McAlister to make his debut from the bench. Robertson pledged to use every member of his squad in the three-test series and he kept that promise Thursday after making only minor changes between the first and second tests. New Zealand holds an unassailable 2-0 lead in the series and has regained the Dave Gallagher Trophy. Damian McKenzie will start at flyhalf for the first time in the series, taking over from Beauden Barrett who started in the first two tests. He will combine in the halves for the first time this season with Cortez Ratima. Robertson has selected a new midfield partnership with Quinn Tupaea returning to the starting lineup after a long injury break, combining with veteran Anton Lienert-Brown. Ruben Love will start for the first time at fullback, while Sevu Reece returns on the right wing after missing the second test with a head injury. Captain Ardie Savea is the only player to remain in an overhauled backrow. Samipeni Finau comes in on the blindside flank and Luke Jacobson will start at No. 8. Openside flanker Savea retains the captaincy in the absence of Scott Barrett who is one of several players unavailable through injury. LAFC (9-5-5, 32 points), who blanked the Loons 1-0 in the season opener for both teams on Feb. 22 in Los Angeles, are 0-2-4 all-time in road matches with Minnesota, including a 2-0 loss last season. LAFC are sixth in the Western Conference but still have three games in hand after going 0-2-1, including a 2-0 loss to eventual champion Chelsea, in the FIFA Club World Cup. After a 1-0 home loss to Vancouver, Los Angeles bounced back with a 3-0 win over the Rapids and a 2-0 victory last Saturday over Dallas. Former Tottenham star and French international Hugo Lloris needed to make just one save against Dallas for his eighth clean sheet of the season and 20th in two seasons with LAFC. Atletico Madrid reaches deal to sign Argentina international Thiago Almada
MADRID (AP) — Atletico Madrid has reached an agreement to sign Argentina international Thiago Almada from Brazilian club Botafogo. Atletico said Tuesday the 24-year-old attacking midfielder, who was playing on loan with French club Lyon, will sign his contract with the Spanish club after passing a medical. Atletico did not disclose the transfer fee or give details on the length of the contract. Spanish media said the transfer was worth about 25 million euros ($29 million), with Botafogo receiving a percentage of a possible future transfer to another club. Almada arrives after forward Ángel Correa left Atletico to sign with Mexican club Tigres. He'll join an attack that includes countryman Julián Álvarez, Antoine Griezmann and Alexander Sorloth. Atletico had already boosted its squad by signing midfielder Álex Baena from Villarreal and 22-year-old Italian left back Matteo Ruggeri from Atalanta.
