Drivers in Cork called in nearly three times more pothole complaints than those in any other county over the last three years.
New figures released to Newstalk under the Freedom of Information Act show Cork City and County Councils received over 14,000 pothole complaints in the last three years.

Dublin comes in second place, with the capital's four local authorities fielding over 5,000 complaints from disgruntled drivers.
Kerry comes in third with nearly 4,500 complaints, Limerick is in fourth with 4,232 and Meath rounds out the top five with 3,366.
The figures show the number of pothole complaints recorded around the country have surged over the three years – increasing by over 92 per cent between 2022 (when there were 10,212) and 2024 (when there were 19,618).
Speaking to Newstalk, Cork City Councillor John Maher said the roads in some parts of the county are 'like walking on the moon'.

'That's how bad it is,' he said. 'Number one, the problem is that the local authorities across the country are not funded adequately to address the issues that we face in 2025.
'Secondly, the amount of work being carried out by utility companies and the roads not being restored to a proper standard, in my experience in Cork City Council has been another factor that has led to the bad quality and the potholes on our roads.'
The figures show that there were just over 24 complaints for every 1,000 people in Cork over the time period – seven times more than the figure for Dublin and more than double the national average.
There are, however, two counties that saw more complaints than Cork on a per capita basis.

Kerry comes in second with just over 28 complaints per 1,000 people and Roscommon leads the way with a whopping 33.6 complaints per 1,000 people.
People in Kildare are the least likely to complain, with just 0.4 complaints per 1,000 people – 26.5 times lower than the national average.
The bottom five also includes Donegal – the county with the third largest road network in the country.
There were just 3.12 complaints per 1,000 people in Donegal despite the fact that its road network spans around 6,500km – second only to Cork (over 12,000km) and Galway (Nearly 7,000km).
Drivers in Cork were also paid out by far the most in pothole-related damages between 2022 and 2024.
Some 1,283 Cork drivers were paid out a total of €283,465 over the three years – more than double the €116,222 paid out to 469 drivers in Meath (second place).
It is also 2.75 times the €102,722 paid out to 286 drivers in Dublin.
It means some €485 was paid out for every 1,000 people in Cork over the timeframe – nearly seven times more than the €70 paid out per 1,000 people in Dublin.
Nationally, the amount paid out in pothole damage claims around the country more than doubled between 2022 and 2024 – increasing by 105 per cent from €191,038 to €392,572.
Meanwhile, the number of claims settled increased by 125 per cent from 839 to 1890.

'Best day of my life' - Dunne delivers on F1 debut

Teenager Alex Dunne says making his Formula 1 debut at the Austrian Grand Prix is "definitely the best day of my life".The 19-year-old impressed as he posted the fourth-fastest time in opening practice for the Austrian Grand Prix as he stood in for McLaren's Lando Irish driver was handed the opportunity in one of McLaren's four mandatory sessions across the season where a rookie driver will take part in first is a McLaren development driver and leads the Formula 2 standings after six rounds with two victories in Bahrain and Imola."I want to say a massive thank you, you made a little boy's dream come true," Dunne said on his team radio after the session."This is definitely the best day of my life. "Thank you everyone for letting me do this and thanks to Lando as well for trusting me with his car. It means a lot." In taking part in first practice, Dunne became the first Irish driver to participate in a Formula 1 weekend in 22 years. He started the session off slowly, carrying an aero rake on his car as championship leaders McLaren tested updates on the MCL39. After a stint on hard tyres, the former British F4 champion posted the fourth-fastest time after switching to the soft tyres late in the hour-long session. His quickest time was just 0.069 seconds shy of championship leader Oscar Piastri, who was third behind George Russell and Max Verstappen."I'm super, super happy. It's safe to say it went pretty well," Dunne told McLaren's social media. "We knew going into the session that the goal wasn't necessarily for performance, it was more to help out with the car, help Lando and kind of just help the team improve as much as they can for FP2 and FP3, and onwards into the weekend. "So to have the pace that I had and show what I am capable of on the F1 stage is something pretty special." Analysis - 'He might give McLaren a few headaches' Andrew Benson, BBC Sport's Formula 1 correspondent: "There was a point where McLaren were thinking of dropping Alex Dunne but [former racing driver] Warren Hughes said to them if you look into the data, you can see that he is really talented and that's really coming out this year. "He's been super impressive in F2 and that lap time. It is only first practice but it's a very rare a driver gets into a grand prix practice session and laps that close to the regular race driver."Alex Dunne might be giving McLaren a few headaches because they already have Piastri and Norris under contract in F1 for at least a couple of years. "I'm not saying Dunne is going to get a McLaren seat but if he wins F2 this year, what are they going to do with him? There aren't that many F1 seats, with this sort of potential you want to get him into F1 as soon as possible." 'Diligent and impressive' Speaking on Sky Sports, McLaren team principal Andrea Stella said Dunne was "diligent and impressive" in his approach to the session, which included testing the new upgrades on the McLaren."He also had the chance to show some speed, and it's no surprise as he's a fast driver," Stella added."I think we need to be a bit careful looking at the lap times because his lap time came later on in the stint when the fuel was down."But it was encouraging and impressive, in terms of Alex himself and it was a good session for McLaren."Ex-Formula 1 driver Karun Chandock says Dunne's performance in practice was "tremendously impressive"."If I was McLaren I'd be trying to do a deal with Cadillac or someone like that," he said on Sky Sports."You want to find him a seat somewhere to build up some racing experience. "I'd be trying to get him a deal somewhere else for a period of time and have him on some sort of a tether him back in, like Mercedes have done in the past with George Russell." What comes next? Heading into the Austrian Grand Prix, Dunne leads the Formula 2 standings by three points ahead of Dutch driver Richard Offaly driver has won in Bahrain and Imola, and claimed pole position in his impressive F1 debut, Dunne returned to his Rodin Motorsport Formula 2 car for qualifying for the seventh round of the posted the seventh fastest time and will start from fourth in the reverse grid sprint race on Saturday (13:15 BST), and will line-up where he qualified for the feature race on Sunday (09:00 BST).

George Russell tops charts in first practice for Austrian Grand Prix

George Russell picked up where he left off by finishing fastest in first practice for the Austrian Grand Prix. Russell took his first win of the season last time out in Canada and the Mercedes driver raised hope of a second victory in as many races by topping the time charts at the Red Bull Ring in Spielberg. Russell saw off Max Verstappen by 0.065 seconds, with championship leader Oscar Piastri third. Lando Norris sat out the first running of the weekend as Ireland's Alex Dunne was handed his Formula One debut. Dunne, 19, finished fourth, less than a tenth shy of Piastri, with Norris due to return to his cockpit for the second session later on Friday. Ferrari driver Lewis Hamilton suffered a gearbox problem before ending the one-hour running in ninth, half-a-second adrift. Russell won from pole position in Montreal to take just the fourth win of his career and move to 62 points behind championship leader Piastri. And the Englishman, whose contract with Mercedes expires at the end of the season, looks set to be among the major players again this weekend after setting the early pace. Although Verstappen finished second, his Red Bull team-mate Yuki Tsunoda ran off the track at turn three and finished only 17th of the 20 runners, seven tenths behind. Norris trails Piastri by 22 points in the standings after his collision with his McLaren team-mate in Montreal. Norris watched the opening session from the McLaren pit-wall, with Dunne becoming the first Irishman since Ralph Firman in 2003 to take part in an F1 event. 'A little boy's dream came true,' said McLaren development driver and Formula Two championship leader Dunne over the radio. 'This is the best day of my life.' Norris will be back in action when the day's concluding session gets under way at 17:00 local time (16:00 BST).
