triple j's Hottest 100 Of Australian Songs: The Complete List
The top 3 was rounded out by Aussie hip-hop veterans' Hilltop Hoods' 2003 anthem 'Nosebleed Section at number #2 and The Veronicas' 'Untouched' at #3.
INXS – 'Never Tear Us Apart'
A stack of legacy artists bagged multiple entries, with INXS also snagging the #59th spot on the list with 'Need You Tonight', Hilltop Hoods bagging an additional two spots with 'Hilltop Hoods – '1955 [Ft. Montaigne, Tom Thum]' coming in at #73 and 'Cosby Sweater' at #64.
Elsewhere, Jimmy Barnes and Bernard Fanning both got a big guernsey, with Barnsey getting up with 'Working Class Man' (#56) as well as a pair of Cold Chisel tracks – 'Khe Sanh' and 'Flame Trees' voted in back-to-back at #7 and #8 in the top 10.
Fanning snagged four total entries with his solo track 'Wish You Well' hitting #57, and Powderfinger Odyssey Number 5 banger 'My Happiness' cracking the top 10 at #6, while 'These Days' came in at #14 and '(Baby I've Got You) On My Mind' nabbed #70.
Meanwhile, other veteran acts live Crowded House, Midnight Oil, AC/DC and Silverchair all nabbed three songs apiece.
On the more modern side of things, Gang Of Youths also scored a hattrick (#87 'The Deepest Sighs, The Frankest Shadows', #60 'Let Me Down Easy', #42 'Magnolia').
The newest song to make the countdown was Amyl & The Sniffers' 'Hertz' from 2021, voted in at #89.
Triple j's decision to launch the first ever Australian-only Hottest 100 ballot coincides with the youth broadcaster celebrating its 50th year on air, and follows criticism off the back of January's Hottest 100 of 2024, which was widely noted for its lack of local representation in favour of big international superstars such as Chappell Roan, Charli XCX, Billie Eilish, Lola Young, Gracie Abrams, Kendrick Lamar and Fred Again dominating the countdown.

MasterChef viewers lash out over use of 'endangered' ingredient: 'Enough'
The grand finale of MasterChef Australia is just around the corner, which means that it's only a matter of time before someone gets to lift the trophy over their head and walk away with $250,000 in prize money. Laura Sharrad, Callum Hann and Jamie Fleming are the last three standing, after a heady elimination challenge that saw fan favourite Depinder Chhibber sent home. Viewers have not been shy in expressing their complaints this year (are they ever?), making it clear they have disapproved of several aspects of the show. From the Back to Win format, the contestants' "lack of hygiene" and the judges allegedly playing favourites, the audience has had enough gripes to last a lifetime. However, with just a few episodes to go, fans have found one more thing to be irritated by, and it's unexpected, to say the least. In round one of Monday's elimination challenge, the chefs were tasked with deciding whether to cook sweet or savoury dishes with the ingredients presented to them, knowing that whoever ended up in round two would have to cook the opposite flavour profile with an unknown ingredient (so, if they cooked savoury in round one, they would have to make a sweet dish in round two). Yes, you read that correctly, she topped her dish with black ants, and that's when the viewers got mad. #MasterChefAU if I see one more dish using ants, I am going to……..can we just use normal stuff? — Wayne Griffin (@grifology70) August 4, 2025 "Ants again? #MasterChefAU," one viewer wrote on X. #MasterChefAU, if I see one more dish using ants, I am going to…….. Can we just use normal stuff?," another pleaded. "I'm a bit over ants," another wrote. "I was wondering when Laura is going to bring out the black no one ever," someone else added. MasterChef fans joke about using ants in dishes Others cracked jokes about the inclusion of the unusual ingredient, with one writing, "So the next time black ants get in my sugar bowl, I should just keep them for a tasty ice cream topper?" "When Laura has ants on her food, she gets praise, when I have ants on my food, I'm told I need to wash my dishes. Where's my favouritism?" another quipped. ENOUGH WITH THE FUCKING ANTS #MasterChefAU — Yak (@AussieYak) August 4, 2025 "Someone needs to keep Laura away from all the ant hills," a third chimed in. "Ants are gonna end up as an endangered species soon," yet another person wrote. "Freaking ants again," another said. Lynne McGranger on the fan response to her Home and Away exit
Home and Away actress Lynne McGranger reacts to the fan response to her exit from the show. Video transcript It's, um, very rewarding. I really wanted, um, Irene to go out, and we still don't know exactly how she leaves, of course, um, but I wanted the lead up to her exit to be something that could be, um, you know, experienced by the audience as well. I feel like the whole Alzheimer's dementia thing hasn't really been touched on or dealt with much on Australian television, because it is a sensitive subject. And I just think the writers and the producers have done such, an honourable job with it, have really treated it with, with delicacy and with honesty. And that's what we wanted to do. And since, you know, I met a lady yesterday who was 78, and she's just been diagnosed with Parkinson's, and that comes under the dementia banner, which I only found out like a year or so ago, cause my cousin in England has Parkinson's. And um, she's just so alert and got, you know, just amazing, but she was, she loves the show and she, we talked and she held my hand and we chatted, and it was just lovely to see the kind of joy that she exuded knowing that, you know, where she was in life was being dealt with in on, uh, you know, in an honourable fashion. And um, that gladdened my heart and I'm so proud of our writers, and so, I mean, you know, in an ideal world, I would have been hit by a bus outside the diner and it would have been all over Red Rover, and maybe I'll be in the coffin knocking on the door going, oh I haven't gone yet. But you know, they were never going to do that, and I'm so proud of um the fact that I've been able to tell this story um with of course the help of the, the genius writers, and I'm not just saying that because I'll probably read this or or see this or hear this, but they are, the fact that they can keep, um, you know, keep a, a, a being like Home and Away afloat and buoyant for so long, and still bring new innovation to it and, and be brave enough to tackle a story as potentially delicate as something like Alzheimer's.
