‘RM4bil potential investments from PM's visit to France'
The Investment, Trade and Industry Minister said representatives from the Malaysian Investment Development Authority and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation were also part of the Malaysian delegation led by Anwar.
During the visit, Anwar met with 40 representatives from French industry players.
'Several French companies expressed their intention to invest a cumulative value of RM4bil in sectors such as high-tech manufacturing, aerospace, renewable energy, tourism and hospitality, as well as the digital economy and sustainable infrastructure.
'As for potential exports, RM675mil was generated for high-impact sectors such as aerospace, automotive, renewable energy, pharmaceuticals, digital economy, lifestyle and the halal industry,' the ministry said in a statement yesterday.
'All these are sectors targeted under the New Industrial Master Plan 2030 and Green Investment Strategy.
'Companies shared their intention to continue investing in Malaysia, driven by key factors such as a conducive, stable and dynamic investment ecosystem; encouraging global demand for Malaysian-made products; efficient domestic supply chains and a highly skilled workforce,' it added.
Tengku Zafrul said the overall success of this mission reflects the continued confidence of many foreign companies in Malaysia's investor-friendly policies.

PSM hails Rafizi's team of 9 PKR MPs who break rank by calling for RCI to avert judiciary crisis
PARTI Sosialis Malaysia (PSM) has applauded former PKR deputy president and Pandan MP and Datuk Seri Rafizi Ramli for having opened the door to the notion that every elected MP is entitled to his/her own conscience vote of not to toeing their party's line if the situation warrants it. Such action of breaking rank from the party whip is an important democratic right of an elected MPs which is hardly practiced in the Malaysian democracy as party reps are bound by party discipline, according to PSM deputy chairman S. Arutchelvan 'Currently it seems thatr only (Pasir Gudang MP) Hassan Karim leverages his conscience vote,' observed Arutchelvan in a reaction to the Rafizi-led nine PKR MPs (including himself) calling for a royal commission of inquiry (RCI) to probe allege irregularities in the appointment of senior judges, including the Chief Justice. 'While I concur that party discipline is essential for a party yet on serious issues of public interest such as the freedom of judiciary, it is essential for MPs to vote according to their conscience or have a mechanism in their own parliamentary set-up to seek feedback from their electorate.' The nine PKR MPs also formally requested that proceedings and an inquiry be conducted by the Parliamentary Special Select Committee on Human Rights, Elections and Institutional Reform, including top government officials to testify. They are Rafizi; Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Kik Ahmad; Subang MP Wong Chen; Ampang MP Rodziah Ismail; Wangsa Maju MP Zahir Hassan; Balik Pulau MP Datuk Bakhtiar Wan Chik; Ledang MP Syed Ibrahim Syed Noh; Sungai Siput MP S. Modi names Malaysia key partner in India's regional strategy
KUALA LUMPUR: Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi has described Malaysia as a vital partner in India's Vision Mahasagar and Act East Policy, underscoring its strategic importance to the region. In a posting on his personal X account @narendramodi, Modi said he met his Malaysian counterpart Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim on the sidelines of the 17th Brics Summit in Brazil. Modi said they reviewed the ground covered in bilateral relations, including the progress made since Anwar's visit to India last year. "Bilateral ties are growing strongly in futuristic sectors like IT, renewable energy and infrastructure. (We also) discussed how to improve investment and trade relations between our nations," he said. Modi announced Vision Mahasagar or "Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions" for the Global South during his visit to Mauritius on March 12, this year. The Mahasagar vision builds on the Sagar (Security and Growth for All in the Region) policy that Modi first announced during his visit to Mauritius in 2015. Sagar has guided India's engagement with the Indian Ocean region over the past decade. Anwar arrived in Rio De Janeiro on Saturday to attend the 17th Brics Leaders' Summit hosted by Brazil. Malaysia participated in the summit in its capacity as a Brics partner country and 2025 Asean chair. The summit marks the first gathering among heads of state and government from Brics member and partner countries. The Brics group, which serves as a political and diplomatic coordination forum for countries of the Global South and collaboration across diverse sectors, was initially established by Brazil, Russia, India and China. It later expanded with the inclusion of South Africa in 2011, followed by Egypt, Ethiopia, Iran, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) in 2023. Indonesia officially became a full member in January 2025 while 10 countries comprising Malaysia, Belarus, Bolivia, Kazakhstan, Cuba, Nigeria, Thailand, Vietnam, Uganda and Uzbekistan were accepted as Brics partner countries at the summit. — BERNAMA
