Wisconsin football offers five-star recruit in the class of 2027
247Sports specifically ranks Hudson as the No. 10 overall player in the 2027 cycle, the No. 1 tight end and the No. 1 player from his home state of Louisiana. Wisconsin is unsurprisingly not alone on the five-star recruit's offer sheet. As of July 23, other programs in pursuit of Hudson include Alabama, Florida State, LSU, Texas A&M, Auburn, Florida, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina, Ohio State, Ole Miss, Oregon, Texas and USC. 247Sports currently lists Alabama, Baylor, Florida State, in-state LSU and Texas A&M as the early favorites in his recruitment, while On3/Rivals gives LSU (95.9%) a prohibitive early advantage over Nebraska (2%) and others.
The 6-foot-6 tight end prospect is also a four-star power forward recruit on the basketball court. Only LSU, Grambling State and Louisiana Tech are listed on his basketball offer sheet.
Wisconsin will have significant competition for Hudson's commitment. The program has not landed a five-star recruit since offensive tackle Nolan Rucci during the 2021 cycle. It only has five five-star signees in the online recruiting rankings era: 2001 DT Anttaj Hawthorne, 2003 DE Justin Ostrowski, 2007 OT Josh Oglesby, 2019 OT Logan Brown and Rucci.
As noted in our story on Wisconsin's offer to Dollar, another blue-chip tight end in the class, the program is looking to rebuild its tight end room as it transitions back to a pro-style system on offense. Top talent at the position will be paramount to the scheme's success. That reality differs from Phil Longo's air raid scheme, which put more emphasis on speed and talent at wide receiver.

Georgia, LSU or Tennessee? ESPN names Alabama football's biggest 'swing game' of 2025
The 2025 schedule for Alabama football features no shortage of big games and challenges ahead. The Crimson Tide have largely the same schedule as 2024. In SEC play, they'll face the same opponents as last season, only with home vs. away dates flipped. Alabama also hosts Wisconsin on the back end of a home-and-home series, leaving room for just three new opponents on the 2025 schedule. Alabama opens the season with its first ever visit to Tallahassee to face Florida State instead of hosting Western Kentucky. The Crimson Tide host Louisiana Monroe (ULM) rather than South Florida, and Eastern Illinois replaces Mercer this year as an FCS opponent. Having the same eight opponents in conference play also means that Alabama will face Georgia in a rematch of last year's classic won by the Tide. It will mark Alabama's first visit to Sanford Stadium since 2015 when the Crimson Tide won as underdogs against Mark Richt's final Bulldogs team. On Wednesday, ESPN's panel of college football insiders called Alabama-Georgia the biggest swing game of the year for the Crimson Tide. Chris Low reasoned: "A loss at Georgia wouldn't necessarily be a crippling blow, especially since Georgia hasn't lost a game at home in five years, but winning in Athens would afford Alabama a mulligan (or two) if the Tide were to trip up the rest of the way against somebody they shouldn't lose to." Alabama knows a thing or two about that, given that they followed up last year's thrilling 41-34 win over the Dawgs with a first-in-40-years loss to Vanderbilt. The Tide also "tripped up" late last season in an ugly 24-3 clunker at Oklahoma that ultimately proved fatal to their College Football Playoff hopes. Earlier this summer, the SEC announced that kickoff for Alabama-Georgia would be in prime time (6:30 p.m. CT, ABC). Georgia's five-year home winning streak notwithstanding, Alabama hasn't lost a regular season game to the Bulldogs since Nick Saban's first year in Tuscaloosa in 2007. The Tide's last loss in Athens was in 2003 during Mike Shula's first season as coach; though in fairness, the two teams have met Between the Hedges only three times this century. Something will have to give when Alabama and Georgia meet on Sept. 27. Steelers FS Juan Thornhill fires back at Minkah Fitzpatrick critics during training camp
Steelers training camp is finally here — but sadly without fan-favorite safety Minkah Fitzpatrick, who was traded to the Dolphins almost one month ago. Several analysts pointed to a lack of splash plays and a potential decline as the reason for the move — but one defender isn't a fan of that narrative. FS Juan Thornhill, Fitzpatrick's predicted replacement, defended the former Steelers safety at Wednesday's training camp — pointing to similar issues he's dealt with when offenses don't throw in your direction. "Minkah is a great player," Thornhill told reporters on Wednesday. "If you have a great guy back there that can make a lot of plays on the ball, in that deep third, teams aren't going to really try you back there. So that's why a guy like Minkah — they say struggled a bit — he didn't struggle. You just can't get interceptions if the ball is not coming your way." Despite Fitzpatrick snagging just one interception in two seasons, his presence in stopping the deep ball was second to none — a role Thornhill is more than willing to earn as training camp treads on.
