Saifuddin: PM prioritises economic recovery before fulfilling promises
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim not only fulfils his promises but also takes the necessary time, as economic recovery is a prerequisite for any announcement he intends to make. Home Minister Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said the prime minister took some time to fulfil his election promises due to the challenging economic conditions when he first assumed office. "He inherited a country grappling with ballooning national debt, high inflation, rising unemployment, and relatively low foreign direct investment (FDI). "As such, he needed time to address these issues, which is why he could not deliver on his promises sooner. "But now, with inflation at 1.5 per cent, FDI at a record high and the ringgit strengthening against the US dollar, the strong economic indicators have created the right environment for him to now give back to the people. "He ensured that recovery came first. Only then could he begin delivering these much-anticipated benefits to the people," he said when met at the Parliament building. He said this when asked to comment on the announcement made by the prime minister earlier today. He added that Anwar's approach was marked by fiscal discipline, anti-corruption efforts, and strict control over public spending. "The prime minister is committed to curbing leakages, avoiding wastage, ensuring there is no overspending, and, most importantly, not tolerating any form of corruption. The goal has always been to restore the country's financial position," Saifuddin said. Among the key initiatives announced by the prime minister today were one-off RM100 cash aid for all adult citizens via their MyKad under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (Sara) programme, which will be implemented for the first time; maintaining current toll rates; expanding Jualan Rahmah Madani; and RON95 petrol price to be lowered to RM1.99 per litre.

PM Anwar fulfils fuel price promise, eases cost of living
KUALA LUMPUR: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has delivered on his promise to lower fuel prices, with RON95 now priced at RM1.99 per litre, one of the lowest rates globally. Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming hailed the move as proof of the government's commitment to easing the people's financial burden despite economic challenges. 'Anwar said if he became Prime Minister, fuel prices would go down, and now, they will really go down,' Nga said during a press conference after officiating the ASEAN Real Estate Conference (AREC) 2025 and ARCHIDEX 2025. He added that the government's initiatives, including the RM100 one-off aid under the Sumbangan Asas Rahmah (SARA) programme and the freeze on toll rate hikes, reflect its dedication to helping all Malaysians, including the often-overlooked M40 group. The RM2 billion SARA allocation is expected to benefit 22 million Malaysians, providing a much-needed economic boost. Nga emphasised that the government remains focused on long-term nation-building, even if some decisions may be unpopular in the short term. 'Sometimes in the government, we are required to make some unpopular, extremely difficult decisions as leaders who care about the next generation,' he said. He also hinted at more positive announcements in Budget 2026, set to be tabled in October. In addition to cost-of-living measures, Nga reaffirmed the government's commitment to housing reforms through PR1MA and affordable housing projects. 'You have to give us at least three terms to realise our vision,' he said, urging patience and continued support for the administration. – Bernama

PM Anwar's economic initiatives reflect strong fundamentals, says Hajiji
KOTA KINABALU: The Sabah government has praised Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim's recent economic initiatives, calling them a clear sign of Malaysia's strong economic fundamentals under the MADANI Government. Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor said the measures, designed to ease the rising cost of living, demonstrate the federal government's commitment to public welfare. 'This reflects the Prime Minister's genuine concern for the people's well-being,' Hajiji said in a statement. He highlighted the one-off RM100 aid for Malaysians aged 18 and above, redeemable at 4,100 retail outlets, as well as the expansion of Rahmah MADANI Sales to every state constituency. The reduction of RON95 petrol prices to RM1.99 per litre under the targeted subsidy scheme was another key move, expected to benefit over 18 million Malaysians. 'This has truly fulfilled the people's aspirations,' Hajiji added. The additional public holiday on Sept 15 for Malaysia Day was also welcomed as a recognition of the occasion's national significance. In Sarawak, Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg expressed gratitude for the federal aid, noting that combined state and federal assistance would further ease public burdens. 'The people of Sarawak will receive help from both Kuala Lumpur and the state government,' he said in Bintulu. Earlier, Anwar announced multiple initiatives, including toll hike deferrals and subsidised fuel, as part of the government's appreciation for public support. – Bernama
