Egypt: Electricity Minister discuss cooperation in energy sector with 6 Chinese companies
Arab Finance: Minister of Electricity and Renewable Energy Mahmoud Esmat held separate meetings with officials from six Chinese companies to enhance partnerships and increase corporate investments in Egypt, as per a statement. The companies are Envision Group, Windey, LONGi, China Energy, PowerChina, and ToNGWEI. The discussions came during the minister's participation in the Shanghai conference on renewable energy, clean energy solutions, and energy transition. These partnerships align with the state's objectives to drive to transfer modern technology, localize industry, and determine a percentage of local industries in components of solar and wind energy projects and energy storage batteries. This is in addition to increasing the local components' percentage in electricity grid projects, including production, transmission, and distribution. During the meetings, Esmat outlined the government's industry localization strategy to create a supportive investment environment for the private sector to attract local and foreign investment. The strategy includes rebuilding infrastructure and promoting the legislative environment, providing guarantees and facilitations, and rehabilitating workers. The minister highlighted expansion plans for renewable energy, including the development of solar and wind energy generation projects, in addition to the diversification of electricity production sources and the energy mix. The officials discussed several projects, such as the manufacturing of energy storage batteries, solar cells, monocrystalline silicon, wind turbines, and their components, and other electrical equipment. © 2020-2023 Arab Finance For Information Technology. Chinese money fires up Hong Kong shares
SHANGHAI/HONG KONG - Chinese investors are piling into Hong Kong shares lured by lower valuations and the city's strategic position in China's growing rivalry with the United States. A record $90 billion of cash from the mainland has driven a stellar 21% rally in Hong Kong stocks in the first half of 2025, reshaping the landscape of a market foreign investors have avoided for several years. "The Hong Kong stock market is being repriced by mainland money," said Chen Dong, fund manager at Hangzhou Ultraviolet Private Fund. Chinese money "is gushing in from various directions in a gold rush," he said. In stark contrast, China's benchmark CSI 300 has barely moved. Disillusioned with the languid market, low returns and a stuttering domestic economy, domestic investors have shifted money from onshore A-shares to Hong Kong-listed equities, where stocks typically trade at a discount. Hong Kong's H-share market has gained from robust flows via the cross-border link Stock Connect, a bumper string of initial public offerings (IPOs) and global investors diversifying away from a weakening U.S. dollar. For 40-year-old Chinese investor Zhu Haifeng, Hong Kong equities now account for 80% of his portfolio. For a dual-listed company, "you certainly want to pay less for the same assets," said Zhu, who bought Hong Kong-listed shares of Tsingtao Brewery and Guangzhou Baiyunshan Pharmaceutical - both trading at a sharp discount to their Shanghai-traded counterparts. Mainland investors via Stock Connect now contribute to 50% of Hong Kong's daily stock turnover, up from around 30% at the beginning of 2024, Societe Generale estimates. Institutional money is gushing in too, causing the gap in dual-listed stocks to compress, although China's capital controls ensure some variance remains. The average premium of China's A-shares over Hong Kong's H-shares - traditionally high due to bigger volumes and activity in China - has narrowed to a five-year low of under 30%. RALLY HAS LEGS The tighter spreads potentially reduce the incentives for mainland investors to buy H-shares, but analysts expect Hong Kong's bull run to continue. U.S. President Donald Trump's erratic policies, fresh U.S. rate cuts and bets on China's technological innovations will drive more money into the former British colony. High-dividend bank shares in Hong Kong have attracted yield-focused investors such as Ping An Insurance and China Life, as long-term treasury yields flirt with record lows. The dividend yield of an index tracking Hong Kong-listed Chinese companies stands at 3.7%, higher than the 2.9% ratio for Chinese benchmark CSI 300 according to LSEG data. That compares with China's 10-year bond yield of 1.65%. Hong Kong has evolved into a proxy of "national champions," Linda Lam, head of equity advisory for North Asia at UBP said, referring to Hong Kong's tech-heavy listings. In comparison, mainland A-shares have a lot more macro-sensitive sectors, weighing on investor sentiment, she said. Goldman Sachs this month published a list of 10 "prominent" Chinese companies with "buy" recommendations, most of which are not listed on the mainland. They include Tencent Holdings, Alibaba Group and Xiaomi - companies invested in artificial intelligence and holding sway in China's tech war with the United States. Guo Changzhen, a retail investor based in China's central Henan province, started buying Hong Kong's high-dividend shares late last year. "Chinese bond yields are low, deposit rates are low, so where else do you put money without too much risk-taking," said Guo, who owns Chinese companies listed in Hong Kong but not at home. Wang Yi, chief investment officer of CSOP Asset Management, said he remains bullish on Hong Kong stocks. "We have seen more global investors turning their attention back to the market," he said. Metaplanet surpasses Cleanspark with $108M Bitcoin buy
Japanese Bitcoin treasury firm Metaplanet has surpassed mining company Cleanspark in becoming the fifth-largest corporate holder of Bitcoin after buying another 1,005 BTC for $108 million. The firm now holds 13,350 BTC acquired for around $1.31 billion at around $97,832 per Bitcoin. At current market prices, the treasury is worth $1.45 billion. Bitcoin mining company CleanSpark holds 12,502 BTC, according to BiTBO. The firm has eclipsed Tesla, Hut 8, Coinbase and Block Inc. in Bitcoin treasury size and now only trails Strategy, Marathon Digital, Twenty One Capital and Riot Platforms. Metaplanet CEO Simon Gerovich said the aggregate price per coin for its latest purchase was $107,601, and the firm has achieved a BTC yield of 349% year-to-date. $208 million in bonds to buy more Bitcoin The latest purchase also comes after announcing a bond refinancing strategy to fund more purchases. Metaplanet's strategic bond refinancing involved issuing 30 billion yen ($208 million) in 0% ordinary bonds from its EVO fund to purchase additional Bitcoin. With this issuance, the firm will also buy back and cancel its third series ordinary bonds worth 1.75 billion yen ($12 million), which carried an annual interest rate of 0.36%, so it has effectively secured an interest-free loan and cash float for more BTC. 'Funds raised through the issuance of the new bonds will be partially allocated to the buyback and cancellation, with the remainder used for the purchase of Bitcoin,' the disclosure stated. Metaplanet stock jumps 9% Earlier this month, Metaplanet revised its accumulation strategy with plans to hold 100,000 BTC by 2026, increasing its target from 21,000 BTC. The firm also announced plans to raise $5.4 billion and acquire a whopping 210,000 Bitcoin by 2027. This would make it the world's second-largest corporate holder of the asset if the current standings remain. There was a strong reaction for the company's stock in Japan on Monday, with a 9% jump in price. Shares in the firm have skyrocketed more than 350% since the beginning of 2025, according to Google Finance. Saylor hints at more Meanwhile, Strategy founder Michael Saylor has hinted at another Bitcoin purchase with his regular weekend post of the portfolio tracker, which has preceded a Monday acquisition in previous weeks. 'In 21 years, you'll wish you'd bought more,' Saylor said, captioning the chart. 'We buy every day. And still, I know I'll look back wishing we had moved even faster,' Simon Gerovich replied. Source:
