Famed Sherpa guide climbs Mount Everest for record 31st time
Before heading to the mountain, Kami Rita had told The Associated Press he would try to climb to the top for the 31st or even possibly 32nd time. He made two successful climbs last year.
He had attempted to climb to the summit a few days ago but was forced to turn back due to bad weather.

Hundreds of climbers have attempted to climb Mount Everest from the Nepali side of the peak in the south this season, which ends this weekend. Most climbing of Everest and nearby Himalayan peaks is done in April and May, when weather conditions are most favourable.
Kami Rita, 55, first climbed Everest in 1994 and has been making the trip nearly every year since. He is one of many Sherpa guides whose expertise and skills are vital to the safety and success of foreign climbers aspiring to stand on top of the 8,849-metre (29,032-foot) mountain each year.
His father was among the first Sherpa mountain guides.
In addition to Everest, Kami Rita has climbed other peaks that are among the world's highest, including K2, Cho Oyu, Manaslu and Lhotse.
His closest competitor for the most climbs of Mount Everest is fellow Sherpa guide Pasang Dawa, who has made 29 successful ascents of the mountain.
Everest was first climbed in 1953 by New Zealander Edmund Hillary and Nepali Sherpa Tenzing Norgay.

In figures, this is the elimination of 750,000 seats and the cancellation of 25 routes this winter. Ryanair said in a statement that the decision to stop routes to these cities is because of the French government's decision to increase air tax by 180 per cent. The airline added: "In response to this government tax, Ryanair will cease operations to Bergerac, Brive, and Strasbourg, and reduce capacity at several other French airports." Ryanair Chief Commercial Officer Jason McGuinness added: "This completely avoidable loss will have a severe impact on regional connectivity, tourism, and local employment." That could be the case as Christophe Fauvel, president of the Dordogne Chamber of Commerce (CCI) fears Ryanair pulling out could lead Bergerac Airport to close for good. Talking to French media, Christophe said: "It is what happens next that worries us. "If Ryanair decides to follow through on its threat and leaves Bergerac for good the airport may face closure". Bergerac Airport says that as a result of Ryanair's decision to end its winter service it estimates a loss of 18,000 passengers. And it believes it will see a sevent per cent loss of its annual passenger numbers. Justin Timberlake says he's been diagnosed with Lyme disease
Timberlake shared the news in a post commemorating his Forget Tomorrow tour, which wrapped in Turkey on Wednesday, adding that the disease 'can be relentlessly debilitating, both mentally and physically'. The SexyBack singer, who described himself as a private person, wrote that he considered ending the tour when he was diagnosed, but wrote that he 'decided the joy that performing brings me far outweighs the fleeting stress my body was feeling. I'm so glad I kept going'. Lyme disease is transmitted by Ixodes ticks, also known as deer ticks. It can cause flu-like conditions, neurological problems, joint pain and other symptoms. In the vast majority of cases, Lyme disease is successfully treated with antibiotics. 'I honestly don't know what my future is onstage, but I'll always cherish this run! And all of them before! It's been the stuff of legend for me,' Timberlake wrote. Timberlake cancelled and postponed multiple shows throughout the tour's run, citing health issues including bronchitis and laryngitis. Six of his US shows were postponed from October and November to February, the singer announced on Instagram. Timberlake ultimately cancelled the final show of the American leg of the tour in Ohio due to the flu in February.
