Marine dispensary, ambulance to be launched on May 18

The Hindu15-05-2025
A marine dispensary and ambulance service will be launched here on Sunday (May 18, 2025) by Industries Minister P. Rajeeve as part of the corporate social responsibility initiative of Unifeeder, an international logistics company.
On Thursday (May 15, 2025), K. N. Unnikrishnan, MLA, told reporters that the ambulance boat was fully equipped to meet all medical requirements. The hop-on marine dispensary boat was to serve the Kadamakkudy panchayat, where around 2,400 patients each month needed regular medical care and lived without direct road access to nearby hospitals. The marine dispensary was to visit the group of islands according to a fixed schedule.
Kadamakkudy panchayat comprises 14 islands, 13 wards, and a population of around 17,000. Dependence on waterways for access to healthcare remains a crucial factor. A mobile medical unit had been in operation earlier, but its licence expired. The need to replace the old service was flagged by the NGO Plan@earth.
The marine ambulance and dispensary will operate between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m., six days a week, with a doctor, staff nurse, pharmacist, and attendant available on board. The new service will cater to the entire population, including communities of pokkali farmers, fishermen, daily wage earners, NREGS workers, the unemployed, and the elderly.
During its first two years of operation, the panchayat will run the boat ambulance.

Yoga For The Earth: How Sustainable Yogic Living Heals You And The Planet

Last Updated: Embracing eco-yoga isn't just about fitness; it's a compassionate, responsible way of living in alignment with the Earth Yoga is a powerful conduit between individual wellness and planetary health. As humans, we are part of nature – just like the plants, animals, rivers, and oceans. Yoga teaches mindfulness and conscious action, promoting a sustainable lifestyle that includes reducing meat consumption, choosing eco-friendly habits, and cultivating compassion for all living beings. It nurtures curiosity, inner peace, and innovative thinking, while also making the body physically strong and elevating intellectual capacity. Himalayan Siddhaa Akshar, author, columnist, and Founder, Akshar Yoga Kendraa, shares how yoga can guide us toward both personal transformation and planetary healing. Yoga for Conscious Living Opt for eco-friendly yoga clothing made from natural, organic fabrics. Use reusable yoga props such as bricks and mats to reduce environmental impact. Yoga fosters harmony with the Earth by cultivating awareness and encouraging a positive mindset. It also serves as a powerful deterrent to addiction—be it alcohol, drugs, or gambling—offering emotional balance that heals individuals and, by extension, their communities. When you heal yourself, you heal the Earth. Yoga is a sacred path that builds a conscious connection between individual actions and global impact. Donald Trump's CVI Diagnosis: Could Your Zodiac Sign Be at Risk Too?

1 2 US President Donald Trump 's recent diagnosis of Chronic Venous Insufficiency (CVI) has sparked fresh public interest in a health issue that often goes unnoticed until serious complications arise. With reports indicating Trump experienced leg swelling, a hallmark of CVI, many are now asking: What causes this condition — and could your zodiac sign play a role in your personal risk? Each zodiac sign has certain traits and habits that can contribute to — or help prevent — conditions like CVI. For instance, a sedentary Earth sign may neglect exercise, while a stubborn Fire sign may ignore early symptoms. Let's explore which signs may be more vulnerable — and why. Scorpio (October 23 – November 21) Scorpios are known for their emotional depth, intensity, and secrecy. While these traits contribute to their inner strength, they also come with a tendency to internalize stress and physical tension. When Scorpios become hyper-focused or emotionally withdrawn, they may spend long hours still or sedentary, leading to circulatory stagnation — a known factor in CVI. Scorpios also have a stubborn streak that can lead them to ignore symptoms, downplay discomfort, or avoid seeking medical advice until absolutely necessary. Advice: Make time for detoxifying movement, such as brisk walking or swimming. Practice emotional release techniques like breathwork, massage, or journaling. Learn to ask for help when your body sends warning signals — vulnerability can be a form of strength Taurus (April 20 – May 20) Taurus, the most grounded of the Earth signs, thrives on routine, comfort, and stability. Unfortunately, this can also translate into physical inactivity, overindulgence in food, and a resistance to change. The combination of sedentary behavior and weight gain is a major contributor to vein issues and CVI. by Taboola by Taboola Sponsored Links Sponsored Links Promoted Links Promoted Links You May Like Gentle Japanese hair growth method for men and women's scalp Hair's Rich Learn More Undo Advice: Incorporate light daily movement: walking after meals, taking the stairs, or stretching in the morning. Think in terms of 'luxurious self-care' — spa days, foot soaks, and aromatherapy walks to stay motivated. Limit salt intake and high-fat foods that worsen inflammation and swelling Virgo (August 23 – September 22) Virgos are naturally health-aware and detail-oriented. However, their workaholic and perfectionist tendencies can lead to extended periods of sitting, hunched over laptops or spreadsheets. Ironically, while Virgos care about health, they often ignore early warning signs like leg discomfort, minor swelling, or fatigue — dismissing them as distractions from productivity. Advice: Set reminders to stand up and move every hour, even during deep work sessions. Take symptoms seriously. If your legs feel heavy, listen — they're telling you something. Opt for structured routines that include wellness time: 10-minute walks, yoga, or even standing desks. Capricorn (December 22 – January 19) Capricorns are ruled by Saturn, the planet of aging, discipline, and limitation. While they are natural achievers, their relentless drive often leads to overexertion and neglect of rest. Capricorns are also prone to skeletal and circulatory issues, especially with age, making them a classic CVI candidate. Advice: Schedule intentional downtime — it's not laziness; it's prevention. Use compression socks, elevate your legs regularly, and avoid standing still for too long. Learn to delegate and pace your workload to avoid physical burnout. Aquarius (January 20 – February 18) Aquarius is an Air sign ruled by intellect and innovation. While mentally agile, they can become disconnected from their physical bodies, often sitting for long hours while working on abstract projects or humanitarian causes. This lack of body awareness can lead to issues like poor posture, inactivity, and circulation stagnation. Advice: Make movement tech-savvy: try fitness trackers, app-based yoga, or walking meetings. Ground yourself with body-focused practices like tai chi, grounding meditations, or even dance. Prioritize hydration and leg elevation, especially when working long hours. Cancer (June 21 – July 22) Sensitive and nurturing, Cancer tends to focus on others' needs — often at the expense of their own health. Their homebody nature can result in emotional eating, sedentary habits, and spending long periods indoors. Under stress, water retention may increase, leading to swelling in the lower limbs. Advice: Use your love for comfort as a health advantage — take long walks near water, try aquatic workouts, and build a peaceful stretching ritual at night. Monitor salt intake and reduce foods that promote water retention. Stay emotionally balanced through journaling or talking with loved ones, as emotional stress can directly affect physical symptoms. Gemini (May 21 – June 20) Geminis are curious, lively, and often on the move — mentally, if not always physically. They're excellent multitaskers but can easily become distracted from self-care. Gemini's biggest challenge is inconsistency: they may start a health regimen and quickly drop it. Long hours at the computer or switching tasks without breaks can increase circulatory stress. Advice: Incorporate short, stimulating physical breaks like dance, walk-and-talk phone calls, or even fidgeting/stretching between tasks. Use their love of variety to try new wellness trends — from standing desks to VR fitness. Keep health goals interesting by changing routines regularly.
