Strawberries, blueberries and more: Where to go berry-picking in Northeast Ohio 🍓🫐
Berry-picking season is nearly here and for those Northeast Ohio residents ready to pick their fruit, there are numerous opportunities throughout the region to do so.
One such place is the Greenfield Berry Farm, owned and operated by Daniel Greenfield within the Cuyahoga Valley National Park in Peninsula. Specializing in blueberries and aronia berries, Greenfield reports a solid harvest this season.
"It looks like it will be a typical year, with no major losses or any bumper crop," Greenfield said.
Some farms, however, are reporting berries are behind schedule this season.
Julie Renner, owner of Renner's Blueberry Knolls Farm in Sugar Creek Township, said blueberries have been slower to grow this year.
With the impending arrival of blueberry-picking season in a few weeks, Greenfield recommends checking the farm's social media for the latest information on picking days and times.
"We aren't open for regular hours, if we have an abundance of berries to be picked, we let people know picking will be available [for certain hours]," he said. "The best way to know what's going on is to follow us on Facebook."
Here's a county-by-county breakdown of some pick-your-own fields and orchards, including season dates and berry selections:

Kent Fire Department issues warning about Cuyahoga River water levels
The Kent Fire Department said in a June 27 Facebook post that even while Cuyahoga River levels have dropped, those not properly trained and equipped should stay off of it. This is especially in light of forecasts of heavy rains in the coming few days are expected to return river levels and flows to very dangerous levels. In the meantime, fire department crews continue to train and prepare for the worst case scenarios. "This is our role, to be prepared, promptly respond and operate at a high level in all conditions," the fire department said in the post. The warning comes after 23 people and six dogs were rescued from the swift-flowing river in Kent on June 22. Hours extended for Cleveland, Akron cooling centers
WJW) — With dangerously high heat continuing into the work week, Cleveland and Akron officials are keeping local cooling centers open longer. A Heat Advisory will continue through Tuesday evening in Northeast Ohio. Get the latest weather alerts here Cooling centers in Cleveland will stay open those days, from 11:30 a.m. to 10 p.m.: Zelma George Neighborhood Resource & Recreation Center, 3155 Martin L. Close encounter: Black bear spotted on local doorbell camera
MONTVILLE, Ohio (WJW) — A black bear was spotted in a Northeast Ohio neighborhood this week. Darcie Little lives in Montville Township in Geauga County. Rare white fawn spotted in North Olmsted She sent FOX 8 video of her close encounter. In the video taken about 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, you can see the bear sniffing around just off the front porch, then saunter back into the dark. The video was captured on the home's doorbell camera. According to the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, black bears are considered an endangered species in the state. Local black bear being tracked by ODNR ODNR said the best chance of spotting a black bear in Northeast Ohio is in Geauga, Ashtabula, Lake, Trumbull and Mahoning counties.
