George court interpreter accused of duping taxi owners in fraud scheme
George Herald reports that, according to a media statement issued by the Hawks, the George-based Serious Corruption Investigation team arrested Appollis on Tuesday after an investigation into allegations that he posed as someone with court authority to defraud two local taxi owners.
The incident reportedly occurred in March 2024.
Appollis allegedly introduced himself to the taxi owners as someone who could assist with the release of their impounded vehicles, at a fee of R3 000 each.
Once an agreement was reached, he filled out official complaint forms, which were filed at the Thembalethu Police Station.
He allegedly stole the documents from the Thembalethu court and forged the signature of a magistrate to make the paperwork appear legitimate.
The case was postponed until Monday, when Appollis is expected to apply for bail.

Beloved Mbombelan influencer dies in head-on collision
Well-known social media influencer Moses 'Lady Mo' Sibiya has been identified as the person who died in an accident near the MRTT yesterday, July 4. The head-on collision involved a Kia Picanto and a minibus taxi. Martin Jeffrey of Emer-G-Med responded to the scene. He told Lowvelder that five of the Kia's occupants were injured and were treated at the scene before being transported to hospital. However, the driver was declared dead on the scene. According to several Facebook followers, Sibiya touched many lives with his talent. He was getting bookings to be a programme director during functions, especially funerals. Three suspects accused of illegally selling rhino horns to appear in court
CAPE TOWN - Three suspects accused of illegally selling rhino horns in Swellendam in the Western Cape are set to make their next court appearance on the 11th of July. The trio made their first court appearance on Friday after being arrested last week Wednesday. They were found in possession of rhinoceros horns worth more than R250,000. Hawks' spokesperson, Siyabulela Vukubi, said: "The three accused, Christopher Farret (35), Shaun Barties (41) and Cheslyn Whitebooi (45) appeared in the Swellendam Magistrates Court, and their matter was postponed to 11 July 2025 for bail information and formal bail application. All three accused were remanded in custody."
