No expulsion, no transfers: Sabah Education Dept refutes viral claims about students in Zara Qairina case
The state Education Department also confirmed that the students are not related to any Very Important Persons (VIPs), contrary to claims circulating on social media that they have been expelled or transferred elsewhere, Sinar Harian reported today.
'All of them are still in school; none have dropped out,' Sabah Education Director Datuk Raisin Saidin told the Malay daily.
He also said the three students are not linked to any VIPs or the police.
He said the Sabah Education Department fully trusts the police to conduct a thorough investigation and will await the official findings.
Zara Qairina, a Form One student who died after falling from the hostel building at a religious school in Papar.
Following her death, three names – 'Kak Wana', 'Kak Dedeng', and 'Tomboi' – appeared online, fuelling rumours of a connection.

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 5 — Eight Malaysian citizens are among 15 suspected tekong darat, or ground handlers of smuggling activities, who have been arrested by the police in raids conducted under the Anti-Trafficking in Persons and Anti-Smuggling of Migrants (Atipsom) Act in Selangor since January 1 this year. General Operations Force (GOF) Central Brigade Commander SAC Hakemal Hawari said seven Indonesian tekong darat and 224 illegal immigrants were also arrested during the period. 'In the raids conducted on June 21 and July 22, the GOF team also seized drugs, suspected to be syabu, weighing 10.355 kilogrammes, and 3.6 kilogrammes of ecstasy pills, as well as vehicles, with the total amount of seizure estimated to be worth RM1.5 million,' he said in a statement last night. He said the arrests and seizures were the result of various strategic enforcement approaches targeting smuggling activities, particularly in Malaysian waters along the Selangor coast and the west coast of Johor. According to Hakemal, a total of 288 raids were conducted during the same period across Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Putrajaya, Negeri Sembilan, Melaka, and Johor. This resulted in the arrest of 1,005 individuals and seizures worth RM1.1 billion, he said, adding that the success proved the GOF's commitment to combating crimes that threaten the country's security and well-being. Foiled in Setia Alam: Snatch thief caught after botched necklace grab
SHAH ALAM, Aug 5 — A man's attempt to snatch a necklace from a local in Setia Alam was thwarted when bystanders caught him yesterday evening. Shah Alam police chief ACP Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim said the incident occurred at 7.07pm when the 37-year-old victim was heading to his car. The suspect, riding a motorcycle, tried to pull off the victim's necklace, but the victim fought back quickly. 'The suspect lost control and fell from his motorcycle. He tried to escape but was caught by nearby bystanders. 'Police later confirmed that the suspect, aged 30, owned the motorcycle but had used a fake licence plate. He is now under remand until August 7,' he said in a statement. Mohd Iqbal urged the public to remain alert and avoid being alone in isolated areas to reduce the risk of crime.
