Crowd Chants 'Our Blood For Our Leader' As Khamenei Makes First Post-War Appearance
Khamenei's last public appearance was on 11 June, when he met with members of Iran's parliament
Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, 89, on Saturday made his first public appearance since the recent 12-day war between Iran and Israel, drawing loud chants of loyalty from supporters during a religious ceremony in Tehran.
Khamenei, who has been Iran's Supreme Leader since 1989 and holds ultimate authority in the country, was seen attending Ashura commemorations, one of the holiest events in the Shia Muslim calendar, which marks the martyrdom of Imam Hussein.
The event took place at the Imam Khomeini Mosque in central Tehran, and was broadcast on state television.
Video footage, also widely shared on social media platform X, shows Khamenei dressed in black, seated on stage as dozens of attendees chant with raised fists, 'The blood in our veins for our leader!" The phrase is a traditional expression of devotion in Iran, often used to show loyalty to top clerics or officials.
This is the first time the Supreme Leader has been seen in public since Israel launched a wave of air strikes on Iran on 13 June, marking the start of a deadly flare-up in their long-running shadow war. During the conflict, Khamenei refrained from public appearances, instead issuing pre-recorded messages, likely due to security concerns.
Before Saturday, Khamenei's last public appearance was on 11 June, when he met with members of Iran's parliament.
The war, which saw heavy bombardments from both sides, left more than 900 people dead in Iran, according to its judiciary. Iran's retaliatory missile attacks on Israeli cities killed at least 28 people, based on official reports.

Netanyahu nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize after meeting at White House, Gaza ceasefire discussed
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said on Tuesday that he has nominated US President Donald Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize, an honour the American leader has long coveted after one of his predecessor's, Barack Obama, received it in 2009. Netanyahu handed a copy of the letter to Trump which he had sent to the Norwegian Nobel Committee with his name in the nomination form. Netanyahu described Trump's 'leadership of a just cause' as he allowed US planes to enter the Iranian airspace and target its nuclear facilities last month, which also brought a 12-day Israel-Iran conflict to an end. Netanyahu termed Trump in the 'pursuit of peace and security' in 'many lands' as the Israeli prime minister praised the US president's 'extraordinary team'. They first held an expanded meeting and then met privately. — Prime Minister of Israel (@IsraeliPM) July 7, 2025 Netanyahu is in the United States for his third visit after Trump returned to the White House in January and his first meeting with the US president after the Iran conflict ended. Before leaving for Washington, the Israeli leader had said that his discussions with the Trump administration could help advance negotiations under way in Qatar between Israel and the Palestinian militant group Hamas. Netanyahu, during a brief press interaction ahead of a 'private dinner' with Trump said, 'I think our teams together make an extraordinary combination to meet challenges and seize opportunities. But the President has already realized great opportunities. He forged the Abraham accords. He's forging peace, as we speak, in one country, in one region after the other.' White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt detailed the meeting between Netanyahu and Trump and said that there were 'many important matters' that were 'obviously ongoing' in the Middle East region for the leaders to discuss.

Netanyahu nominates Trump for Nobel Peace Prize
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu on Monday (July 7, 2025) told President Donald Trump he had nominated him for the Nobel Peace Prize, handing Mr. Trump a nomination letter during a meeting at the White House. Speaking to reporters at the beginning of their meeting, Netanyahu said Israel was working with the United States to find countries who would give Palestinians a better future. The honor was 'well-deserved,' Netanyahu told Mr. Trump. Mr. Trump has long called himself a master peacemaker and made clear his desire for the Nobel Prize. Mr. Trump, speaking in front of reporters, said the nomination was news to him. 'Coming from you, this is very meaningful,' he told the Israeli leader. U.S. President Donald Trump is scheduled to hold a private dinner with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu as families of hostages held in Gaza push for any ceasefire agreement to include the release of all remaining hostages. As the two leaders meet for the third time this year, the outwardly triumphant visit will be dogged by Israel's 21-month war against Hamas in Gaza and questions over how hard Mr. Trump will push for an end to the conflict.
